I guess like most supermarkets they have issues with people wanting to create variety packs without consent. Though it's good to have a large grocery nearby, for me, this location consistently misses the mark. Yes, they have a good selection of items, but I find much lower prices at other stores. Taking a 5 minute bus ride to Aldi or Lidl on Fulton near Flatbush, even with the $3 fare, is SO MUCH less expensive; like 1/3 to 1/2 the price of what I normally buy. Especially on fruits and veggies. And don't get me started on trying to get the lower prices listed on their in store discount specials. The fine print usually excludes most of what I'd want to buy. Or I have buy 2 of something when I only need one. The best thing about this store are the cashiers. Always lovely and friendly. The rest...not so much. My recent experience here has been my last. I am always impressed by this store. I was even impressed before the big "makeover" but since, even more. I am very happy this location is just minutes from my son's place so it's always a stop to pick up dinner and a snack before a night of taking care of the kids. You walk into a very large clean and bright area (vegetable section). Straight ahead is the deli section with a great selection of Boar's Head and Key food products. I have always been very impressed with their house products. The staff behind the counter is always efficient and professional. There always seems to be plenty of everything here. Meats, dry goods, beverages, etc... Living on Long Island I am used to 'mega grocery stores.' My shops have everything possible including patio furniture. How can I in good conscience during a global pandemic give these wonderful Essential Workers anything less than the highest rating!?! Why would I? Thanks so much staff at Key Foods. Other than being well stocked your staff has always been wonderful and kind. They've even gone out of their way several times for items at the back that I requested. ALL have been wonderful but Charmaine comes to mind. (Well hers is the only name I remember). I must admit that at the start of lockdown there was unfortunately a bit of price gouging. Yikes! So many businesses succumbed to this sad practice that it almost (ALMOST) felt like the norm. I've also noticed meat labelled incorrectly BUT, this was in the middle of the world going crazy so mistakes at the time was understood and excused by me. (Though I did tease them via pic haha). I try my best not to shop here as security likes to hover around the exit, watching me by pretending to move people to the next register, picking up baskets, etc when they were sitting down up until I'm at the the register and leaving the store. Which is idiotic as I'm a Software Engineer but because I'm black & don't dress wealthy they treat me as though I'm there to steal I used to work at Trader Joe's for 5 years and I've seen countless white people eat & drink items without paying for them. I hope they understand that they can be sued for racial discrimination which is backed by New York City Prices here are 20%-100% higher than comparable items at Trader Joe's or even Whole Foods. The groceries here are expired all. the. time. I can't tell you how many times I've found expired food here. The most annoying is when I forget to check and get all the way home and find that an item is expired. This review is prompted by an expired box of crackers. Once I found that meat I bought was expired. I always return the expired food, so they are 1000% on notice, and yet the shelves are still full of it. They're remodeling the inside which makes me roll my eyes so hard -- putting a fancy shelf full of expired food is not going to pull in customers. read more

Consistently incorrectly priced items. If it's on sale, there's a 50/50 chance you'll actually get the sale price. Actually there's a 20% chance you will. When you show them that they rung up the wrong price, then they'll say "whoops, it was an accident." Unfortunately, the alternative is to shop at consistently high priced grocery stores. This grocery store should really get more street cred if not by it's obvious hip hop history and Fulton street location then by it s expansive selection of grocery items. Also to add into the mix a very attentive, welcoming, and efficient staff. At all point of contact, everyone was personable & helpful. I found this to be one of the more cleaner supermarkets & definitely well stocked. I was surprised to find they even had a cbd infused seltzer, which I didnt know until after I drank it. Nevertheless, it was good & I'll def make a point to pick one up next time. The owners also still pay reverence to it's most famous employee, Biggie Smalls & as a fan, I must say it was pretty darn neat to pay a visit here. The cashiers are consistently rude. The men who stand at the checkout aisles watching over customers like hawks are complete assholes if you ask them for help. They lie about their return/refund policy. And finally, at checkout, they tried to charge me for something I did not pick out and were impolite and pushy when I asked them about the suspicious charge. Very sketchy establishment. HIGHLY *DO NOT* RECOMMEND. I've given them a few chances because they're down the street from me, but I will never be going back to Key Food again. As long as you're okay with obsessively checking your groceries to make sure they're not expired (One time the entire pre-cooked sausage section was past date, by months) and you're okay with dealing with some of the rudest cashiers Brooklyn could produce, this is the grocery store for you! (Now, there are some absolutely lovely cashiers there, and if you're reading this THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS SMILING AND BEING FRIENDLY!) The rest of them are constantly checking their phones, don't know the price for anything and when you tell them, they give you an attitude. There is a manager here named Mo who never has his mask on over his nose, putting both staff and customers at risk. I saw a client ask him to fix his mask once a few weeks ago and he complied, but every time I been in the store since, it is not covering his nose. I used to love this store, but I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Whatever you do don't buy any type of food here that could possibly go bad. On Jan 11, 2020 I bought an $8 jar of sauerkraut that is not supposed to expire until September 3, 2020. I walked the 7 minute walk home in the cold and immediately put the jar in my fridge. When I opened the sealed jar several days later, there was a substantial amount of mold growing on the top. When I had time later that week to take it back to the store, I was told by a "manager" (who refused to tell me his name but claimed he was the only one in charge of the store) that I must have put something in there to make it moldy. He brought out another sealed jar with the same date on it and said he couldn't see any mold (he did not even open it to look inside) so therefore I must be lying. While I was there, another lady who overheard the situation shared that she too had the same experience with a block of cheese that was moldy when she bought it but they wouldn't take it back even though it wasn't expired yet. This is their "policy". They sell moldy food and then blame the customer. I will not waste my money on moldy food. I will not give a store my business that sells moldy food and accuses me of making it that way. I'll be taking my business elsewhere, and you should too. read more

Best large grocery in the neighborhood! The layout is a bit of a maze, looks like they combined 2 retail spaces at some point? Due to this, the organization makes little sense - but that journey you take to find sea "it's gotta be here somewhere" salt will make you find items you didn't. Shopping while hungry might also have something to do with it! The stock good brands, every product I ever need (more options than other neighborhood grocers), and have excellent fresh produce. Even if the store layout feels overwhelming, it's not nearly as bad as a morning commute on the L. If you see me wandering the store looking a little lost, say hello. read more

My main store for years that has continued to evolve and improve. Over the last few years, and recently as they switched from a Met to a Key Food, they have renovated, modernized, and upgraded a lot of the store. Currently there is a substantial produce section with great organic options, as well as a summer outdoor market. A huge selection of anything and everything I could want - a whole section of gluten-free Red Mills products, make-your-own peanut butter, solid deli, fresh breads, amazing hummus, lots of local-Brooklyn food, and great beer aisle. Plus everything else you could need at your grocery store. Staff are warm, friendly, helpful - truly the best! (Plus the Notorious B.I.G. used to work there, what more do you want?!?) read more

Items are incorrectly priced sometimes and then when you show them they tell you it's wrong and that a customer must have put the items in the wrong place. This happens to be the neighbor supermarket hence the only reason I keep coming back . This key foods is incredible. I broke open my bag of sugar on the conveyor belt and the cashier was so kind and patient, cleaning it up for me and allowing me to go get a new one. Their selection of fresh produce is excellent for its size. They've got an outlandishly good selection of nice chocolate bars sold at bargain prices--the bars of Vosges (normally $9) were only $5!!! The beer selection and pricing is fabulous. And don't even get me started on the juice. If you're looking for a particular juice, this Key Foods has it. read more

I never ever write reviews on Yelp, but I just have to alert everyone about what I just experienced at this store. There was an enormous animal (we think a raccoon) in the ceiling!!! It was above our heads near the checkout area. Someone noticed it when fur was falling to the ground from the shedding animal. Someone thought it was a cat, but it was bigger and grosser. The worst key food ever they have no respect for the pricing law and get mad and upset with you when you approach them about the issue. The cashiers are rude and can't count (please don't give them five cents after they press the total button ) . I love these guys. First because they are human beings - a family which has owned the store for 50+ years. I have been shopping there for 13 years now but what made me love them was something that happened last year. I bought a week's worth of groceries and my bank card was declined. I will spare you the story to that, but I was ultimately both unable to pay for my groceries and basically had no cash for 5 days due to a mistake by my mortgage company over a long holiday weekend. I was very embarrassed and upset and they were so good. They told me to come back, that they trusted me; I went home with the groceries and came back a few days later and paid them when it was all sorted out. So yes, I love them but they also have worked to develop the store over the last few years and it keeps getting better and better with great produce, meats, and excellent prices. I thought that after the grand opening when this place changed from a MET to a KEYFOODS, this place would be much improved. There have been some changes and some of the produce has expanded into more fish options, ezekiel bread, etc. I MIGHT HAVE RATED THEM AS 4 stars for the potential as a better store if it had not been for the below incident, which drastically reduces my trust in this store and brand as a whole: I recently bought a pack of turkey bacon and realized only once I was home that the package was already 2 days past expiration. I'm pretty sure I am not alone in avoiding the chore of going back to the grocery to do a small return. Thus, it took me a while to get back to the store. I forgot to bring it with me on my next trip, so the time of holding onto this bacon became a little long, over one month I must admit. I almost did not bother to go back to discuss this, however I thought it was my civic duty to notify them and I figured that it would not be an issue to replace expired food unopened as I had the receipt with the date of purchase. When I got to the store, I waited for 10-15 minutes (10 minutes of my life wasted) while customer service was helping another customer. Then when I finally got to me, the woman in charge barely looked at my receipt and informed me that they do not exchange foods that are perishable. "Ma'am, we do not exchange perishable foods. This is expired. This is old. Ma'am...Ma'am. We don't even accept perishable goods from any customers when it's more recent." They took no responsibility for rotting meat on their shelves, which is outrageous. I understand that I took too long to bring it back, but her tone and her raised eyebrows were patronizing and infuriating, coupled with the principal that they do not take back anything that was found to be expired at the time of purchase. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU MAKE SURE YOU CHECK EVERY EXPIRY DATE BEFORE CHECKOUT, AS THIS STORE APPARENTLY WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY EXPIRED FOODS THEY SELL OFF THEIR SHELVES. WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER RESPONSE: "I am so sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I realize that we may have made a mistake as we have been going through a transition and may have been in the process of restocking our shelves. I can assure you that we stand by our produce and guarantee our quality. I can take off the $3.69 towards another purchase as a courtesy and hope that this does not stop you from coming back to our store. We take this very seriously. " (I could care less about the measly $4, but the principal that the store writes GUARANTEED on the outside is a FALSE CLAIM) I recommend supporting local MR MELLON down the street. I've been shopping here as my main grocery for 3 years and it's everything I was hoping for from a neighborhood grocery. The range of items is great - organic hipster to basic staples. Prices are good - you can buy regular food at normal prices or the organic, etc food at higher prices to that are comparable to other organic places. I love the people who work there - everyone is so nice. I've really never enjoyed grocery shopping so much and I feel like part of the community while I am there. They re-organized the store recently and have new speciality items like Japanese cuisine producs like miso paste and packaged, fresh udon. I bake and they have the full range of specialty flours I need. I'm always surprised they can have so much variety in such a little store. My household has vegetarian to omnivores and we all shop there. I do miss that now they are called Key Foods I can't sound like an art lover by saying that I'm going to the Met! read more
