The manager of Keyfood located 505 Neptune ave in Brooklyn , whose name is Happy, was rude to me when I said I had redeemed a digital coupon that was advertised by the store and presented a photo as proof. Without any reason, she started yelling at me and pointing her finger in my face. This was completely unacceptable, especially coming from a manager towards a customer; it was a display of rudeness and extreme unprofessionalism. Go to the Ave Z keyfood - they are much nicer to the customers. I bought 2 decaf coffee by accident- wanted the purchase the 1/2 decaf which is $2 less each. I returned the next day after the sale sale ended and they did take back the decaf but would give me the 1/2 caf on sale. In general they are price gougers. It's a Key Food. Not as bad as the one where I used to live since at least the store is a little cleaner & they seem to have SOME selection of goods but I feel like you could do better at other stores for certain things like meat or veggies. I wish I could give this place negative 5 stars. My complaint is mostly with the afternoon to night staff. For starters, customers who purchase their soda bottles and cans here have trouble returning them because of the professional bottle returners. To add insult to injury, they don't let you return bottles after 7:30 pm and the worker there Vito is nasty as can be. He thinks he has the right to mistreat people in the bottle return cesspool room. And coup de grace, Vito and the security guard openly talk in front of customers how they shouldn't be shopping so late. The store closes at 9 pm and they act like you committed some kind of sin by last minute shopping. The owner's son is nice but he needs to discipline his staff and teach them about customer service. read more

This supermarket is in my neighborhood and since it's very populated area and they are pretty much the only supermarket within the walking distance they take full advantage of it and jack up the prices. There's a lot of older people who can't drive to stop & shop so they have no choice but to go here. On the positive note the store is clean and well stocked. Being passive-aggressive, I'm posting this review in the hopes that the owner reads it and does something about it. All the other (5) reviews are accurate.... Smallish for a supermarket, limited selection (even compared to other Keyfoods in more affluent neighborhood like Parkslope). The slow-moving elderly demographic. No neighborhood competition to drive prices down. All tolerable thing. BUT.. my 2 major pet peeves are... 1) Incorrectly labeled, and\or unlabeled price on items! There's literally not one time that I've gone to pay at the register that they didnt make a mistake on some item, and attempt to overcharge me (read steal money from my pocket). You have to know the prices, and watch the monitor like a hawk. I typically look for items that are on sale, which is denoted with the stuck on signs\placards in front of said sale items. Well I would say that no less then 25% of the time, when you go up to pay for said sale item, it doesnt scan at the correct sale price. Then you gotta make a big rigamarole for a price check, the manager has to run to said shelf and look at the sale label. Its a big to-do. Case in point the other day the sign in front of the (i think it was Stoffers) frozen dinners. Every one of them read 99¢. Several signs said "Entire Stoffers line 99¢ sale". Go up to the register, scans at $1.25. I didnt have the energy to fight for that quarter. :( And I'm not talking about the times when a keyfood card is required to get the sale price. (That's a whole separate rant!) These people are thieves! Or their staff, whoever inputs prices into the computer, is completely incompetent. BTW, the have a price scanner (only one for the whole store) but it doesnt work at all about 50% of the time. Stop & Shop, and other supermarkets, if they make a mistake like that (stealing your hard earned money), you go up to customer service, and they give you the item for free due to their mistake. No, not Keyfood! And even though their wrong 99% of the time, I've never even gotten an apology! Let alone the item for free for their mistake. 2) Issue two is the HORRIBLE loud elevator muzak they have piped in throughout the store. Theres not a spot in the supermarket where one can shop quietly without this noise droning in ones ear. G-d forbid you want to take a phone call to confirm ones shopping list, you cant hear nothing. I'm sure you they read some study that said shoppers stay longer or buy more in stores with music playing, but I cant for the life of me figure out how. I cant wait to leave the store! The selection is a little lacking compared to other supermarkets but otherwise, this place is okay. The also do delivery for a fee which is great since the neighborhood has a lot of elderly and disabled people. I've never had a problem like these other reviewers. read more

Have been shopping here for years since I work in the neighborhood. They seem to have everything. Produce is always fresh and a nice selection of organic items. Deli has a nice variety. Management is very hands on and cashiers are very friendly which is rare these days. read more

There are good sales here sometimes, and the staff is friendly. My major concern is with their lack of organic/seasonal/local produce. There is barely any. The produce and meat section they do have looks good until you take it home. The meat is often rotten. Not that you can't eat it, but you better get to it that day or the day after or else! The produce is the same way, I found myself wasting money because it'd go bad so quickly. I am not sure what the problem is or where they are getting their stuff from, but I've had better luck with organic stuff from Whole Foods in Park Slope where I've been going out of necessity because this store doesn't carry organic grass-fed meats. I go because of necessity, emergency ingredients needed for dinner, if I go at all. Even the beer selection is constantly raided by some insane people who buy a few bottles out of the six pack. What is this? If I were president, it wouldn't be allowed. But on a more serious note, they're constantly out of stock and seem to rotate the beer selection based on who knows what, and I can't ever find what I'm looking for. (Or it's a half of a six pack because some hooligans bought 2 bottles... again, I ask you, is this normal?) read more

sadly this is my local supermarket, there use to be a waldbaum's in the neighborhood but they closed ten years ago, this placed has improved some what quality wise, but it's got a lock on the neighborhood, so it can basically charge what it want's. Only in NY would this be called a supermarket; anywhere else glorified bodega is more like it. But better to have it around than lose it (cf. Speedway, Waldbaum's, Met). For the size, there's a decent selection of American style items (dairy, deli, frozen) to supplement the ethnic (Russian and increasingly Chinese) stores where I do most of my shopping these days. Sale prices here are great and non-sale prices are for the most part surprisingly reasonable, especially in comparison with Stop & Shop. As others have noted, Key Food produce is universally unappealing -- Net Cost Market is worth walking the extra couple of blocks (Coney Island Hospital farmers market better still, when open). I'm also disgusted by the old folks who paw at all the bagels and rolls when tongs are right in front of them, but sadly that's not confined to this store. Although the nice renovations that took so long after Sandy look upscale, they certainly haven't attracted an classier clientele. Nor a less lethargic staff. And why keep it so frigid throughout the store? Still, with the plans to replace the Trump strip mall across the street with a condo tower, I hope Key Food lasts here. read more
