Called and asked if KEY HARBOR could program Toyota key fobs already purchased from Amazon. They said that they would try. I took them two key fobs ( after researching and opening my remaining key fob and writing down the serial number and two letter designation on the circuit card in the key fob). Some can only be purchased at the Toyota dealership or a locksmith like KEY HARBOR. KEY HARBOR worked with me and got my fobs programmed!!! After calling 3 times and asking all the questions that I had I went there yesterday to get a key for my Toyota Camry. Miles was super nice and informative and made my experience absolutely wonderful! From checking into walking out of there with 2 keys took about 20-25min. I was a little skeptical about paying so much money just to have keys that won't work but Miles explained that they buy a code from Toyota and make the key by hand. Came here to get a key for my Honda accord after having replaced it once already via Amazon. I was already frustrated and call the Honda dealership. They said they were going to charge me $140 to get a new key. No exceptions. So I decided to Google locksmiths that replace car keys. I came across their shop and called immediately. I explained to them the issue and they gave me a quick resolution and even cut me a deal. I came in immediately and after about 10 minutes, the key was cut, reassembled and ready to go. Sure enough it started the car perfectly and I've been using it ever since. Great thing about this business is that it's a family owned business. So you don't have to jump through hoops or beg for deals like you would at other places. When I asked how long they would guarantee my key, they said 30 days is the standard but since they're a family owned business to bring it back if I had any issues and they would take care of it. So I had to get a new door mechanism for my car (which they actually helped me realize, I thought it was just the key being too old), and they were very helpful in ordering the part and flexible with the installation times. When I came in for installation, Myles said it would be around 90 minutes tops but he would do it as fast as he could, and actually finished in just about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the part sent by the distributor was faulty, and it stopped working after about a week. This even led to me being completely locked out of my car because the battery was dead (an unrelated problem), and he even drove down on a Saturday to get me into my car and jump my battery! He ordered the replacement part for me (an upgraded version even this time), and installed it free of charge in only 20 minutes this time. It wasn't the ideal situation, as would have been great for the part to work the first time and not have to make the extra trips. But it could have been a lot more painful, and Key Harbor (and Myles in particular) bent over backwards to make it as smooth as possible and get my doors working correctly again! read more

My FOB stopped working and I tried unsuccessfully to fix it myself with 3 batteries from local stores. In frustration, I went to the dealership, who wanted to charge me $1,100 to fix the problem. I looked for alternate solutions, and someone recommended Key Harbor. They tested my battery, and it showed a 3.0 reading, where it should be 3.2. They got me a new battery that read 3.2. Then, they tested to see if the fob was draining the battery. It wasn't. He said the fob was clean, and switches we're good. I tested it with my car, and it worked great. I paid them $10, and they have a customer for life. Highly recommend them! read more

Key Harbor (now in Crabtree mall) cut a basic (no chip, HY 17 blank) Hyundai car key for me and then told me it was $17 and the technician said I "had to buy it" or they'd call security (I guess just trying to be intimidating, and is an awful way to treat a customer). They backed down to $12 after a heated argument, but the whole experience left a bad taste. I said they should tell people the price up-front (or have you pay first) and they wouldn't even admit that was the right thing to do. The arrogant sales girl said "we don't usually have a problem". I guess they're not used to customers who care if they're getting ripped off. They said "the dealer charges $85", but who they're competing with is other locksmiths, not car dealers. Ace Hardware didn't have 2009 Hyundai blanks (about $1 wholesale) yet, but they will, and they won't overcharge for them when they do. That said, I'll be fair in that the car and house keys were cut quickly and well, and the house key was only a couple of bucks. Still, I'd go to Hakky if I was in Crabtree mall. They've been there for decades, or Ace Hardware (also been doing keys forever, and with real trained emploees, not automated machines like Home Depot or Lowes). The machines usually work, and they have good return policies, though. I just prefer to have a key cut by hand. read more

We purchased my brother in law's 2005 Honda Accord prior to moving to Raleigh. Not having a car since we were coming from NYC, it seemed like the perfect situation. Aside from the questionable paint job and fact the sun roof burns the right side of my body when driving, the car drives well. Back in the day, prior to our purchase, don't ask when, but at some point one of the keys to the car broke, and my brother in law, being the MacGyver he is, thought 'super glue fixes everything'. The key was placed back in the holder, but none of the electronic buttons worked. Eventually, the key fell out yet again, leaving me with not many options. Long story short, we were told of we wanted a new key, we could go to a Honda dealership and pay $300. Luckily, thanks to a recommendation from a local garage, I went into Key Harbor. They were able to give me new keys and sync them to the car for half the price. Matt and the rest of the staff were incredibly helpful and patient, taking time to explain different options and working with me to get a price that worked for my budget. I also love that they are family owned and operated #shoplocal They are located by the H&M at the mall and have reserved parking spots. All in all it took about 30 minutes. Rude, Rude, Rude...If customer service is KEY then you might stay away from this establishment. I stopped by here 3 weeks ago for a key fob replacement. The sales associate was a young kid who told me they did not have the fob I needed but could order it and it would be there in 2 days. He would call me when it was ready. I work out of town so it wasn't a big deal. Never received a call so here we are three weeks later, I send my boyfriend to pick up the new key fob. He comes home with an empty shell key fob that doesn't work. Mind you they have my old defective key fob. I call up there and an old man answers. Leaves me on hold for 15 mins, comes back and tell me he cannot talk because they are too busy and hangs up. I call back the next day to simply ask why they just gave me an empty shell and kept my old key fob without transferring it over (which is what I paid for). The young man says "oh we forgot". That is not acceptable. I paid $75 for my defective key fob to be transferred to the new shell. Then the owner gets on the phone and start screaming at me and just nonchalantly tells me "oh just bring it back up there" like I live around the corner. These people could care less about quality work. I took the empty shell back today and got it transferred finally. Is too much to expect what you pay for. Do Not, I repeat..Do Not use Key Harbor. read more

I came in with a problem, spent $305 for an actuator and left with the same problem. Just spent another $160 to have the car diagnosed at the dealership and was told I needed a "drivers door lock assembly" which includes an actuator. Cost to fix-$842. When Key Harbor figured out they couldn't help me, they said it was an electrical issue. I wouldn't trust them for anything other than making keys (which I spent $107 for one). read more

Nearly forgot about this tragic establishment. Charged me nearly $450 for a push start 2015 Kia fob. My key was lost for 3 days, they had to come to me to replace it because it could not be driven. Before they had even left to head to me; before they had even cut the key, I got a call that my key had been found. I called them to let them know I no longer needed the key. So I order a key fab for my Audi. I told the lady I need it to be programmed also. Get to this establishment and was told they didn't program that key. Now mind you when I spoke to another worker they asked was I going to drive my car that day. So I said ok. So Gunn to PROGRAM a key I guess the car would have to be there. So get there I'm picking up only a KEY Fab for 90 freaking dollars!!!!!!! That's it! Now amazon has these for 14 dollars less all day and everyday. So what I needed was the key to be also programmed! Went in last week to have a couple keys cut, as the plastic on my old remote key had split and was (sadly) being held together with electrical tape. We brought our own keys in to be cut that we had ordered off Amazon, but ended up getting one of the lifetime guarantee keys cut also, since I tend to drop my keys a lot. The guy cut us a deal on cutting our own keys, since we were getting the lifetime key, which is always nice. Obviously, this place is a way better value than the dealership. It is a family run business, and that really shows in their customer service. We were given all of our options, and even though they did make a sale, I didn't feel pressured at all. They quoted us a time for the keys to be ready (30 minutes), and when we came back everything was ready for us. If I ever need a car remote key cut again, I will absolutely be back.
