Keybank was just so, so bad. Changing loan terms, delaying things, losing files, bad attitudes. My house cost me an extra $8k due to their games. I was advised to sue, but didn't because things had already taken so long, I just wanted to close ASAP. We finally closed and I thought the pain was over, but it was not. I have been fighting with them ever since. I have never made a late payment, aero issues on my end. They keep losing my escrow money, saying they found it, then saying they don't know what I'm talking about and telling me I owe another grand or so immediately. I want to refinance and take all my business from them as soon as possible. Save yourself the gut wrenching stress, and steer clear of Keybank altogether. read more

Do not use key mortgage! I will start this review by stating that I am a very well qualified buyer and my loan application and underwriting should have been an easy and quick decision to make. Sadly, this company has horribly ineffective business practices and can not meet deadlines. They are inefficient and will takes weeks to do what should be done in hours. If you care about your good name or business reputation, do not associate with them under any circumstances, they will only embarrass you by repeatedly missing deadlines that they knew about months in advance. No matter what they offer, steer clear of this poorly run, mismanaged company. I would definitely NOT recommend Key Mortgage Services. It is a group of incompetent and dishonest individuals, including the president, Steve DiMarco. I approached Key Mortgage Services regarding refinancing of my mortgage loan in the fall of 2019. After initially submitting all the requested information, including tax returns, I received an email from the loan officer saying, "Everything looks good on your loan. I need to order the appraisal and move the loan to my underwriter for the formal review. Please pay the $450 application fee." I paid the fee, and the subsequent appraisal was conducted. And then the communication seized... After my several emails to the president DiMarco regarding the status of my loan, I finally heard from him stating that my request is denied due to "income insufficient for amount of credit requested". In summary, they had my financials with the "insufficient" income from the very beginning of the process and still coerced me to pay the application fee. They pulled my apparently not needed credit report with a score of almost 800, making a detrimental mark on my credit history. Then they ordered the useless appraisal, which actually came in higher than expected. And when I requested a refund of my application fee - my request was denied. Why would anyone do business with an entity like Key Mortgage Services, that operates in bad faith? read more

This company needs a compete overhaul. They do not understand simple concepts about working with Union members, it took me three times minimum to finally make Tricia McLaughlin understand that I am employed by one entity(IBEW) and then am contracted out to a shop. Work is not guaranteed so you may only be with a company for a few weeks if that's what the position is requesting, but that doesn't mean you're not a member. Tricia also failed to request my W-2 transcripts until 3 days before closing which in an email she made it seem like it was my responsibility to do her job. I called IRS on numerous work lunches on hold trying to get this resolved speaking with the rudest people on earth to find out Tricia had never actually requested these documents in the first place. Then I had to travel to an IRS facility the day before closing to deal with more pleasant people and was scrutinized by them every step of the way with no help from key mortgage. I closed a day later luckily because of my diligence in providing paperwork and doing their job at times. Honestly I could've done this process better myself if I just had a simple guideline to proceed with what was needed from me by when and signed things via email. This place is a joke and working with the realtor was the only good part (Assumpta). I was told things would be streamlined but they weren't on the lenders end. The last thing I want to bring to light is that Tricia McLaughlin told me several times I could have the mortgage company pay taxes in escrow for me to see if I needed the assistance and then after 12 months I could pay myself if I felt up to it. Well this was not the case and I'm told I have to wait 24 months and this is pretty standard. I reached out to Tricia recently hoping she could tell my mortgage company (which they sold my account to) so I could pay it myself. I received a letter recently after investigation that I was not eligible for this which to me says Tricia lied that she never told me this information. Now as I've been diagnosed with a disabling medical illness and I cannot alleviate the struggle of paying extra (managing account) and in lump sums every month because she didn't want to hang herself for her mistake. I do not want a response from the higher up telling me things happen or they apologize for the inconvenience because these are hollow gestures. They got paid, so honestly what do they care? They got what they wanted while I scrambled in the meantime and continue to because of their incompetence. Unless you plan on fixing my issue I don't want an empty apology. I have to agree with the other reviewers. I am completely frustrated with how unorganized and incompetent these people are. We are not set to close until the end of the month, however just getting the pre-approval was an issue for them and came down right to the last minute. Our loan officer did not respond to my emails and then the day that it needed to be in, told me he thought the "other guy" was taking care of it. All of the documents have been wrong thus far. Wrong addresses, wrong dates, and wrong calculations. Very careless and sloppy mistakes. So, here's the update. 2 months after the contract was signed, with Key Mortgage's "pre-approved" "excellent" "manually run past the underwriter first" buyer, the loan was denied. For many reasons, which included poor credit and insufficient income. My clients, the home sellers, wasted 2 good marketing months off the market, and lost their purchase property. How in the world does ANY mortgage company issue a pre-approval based on reviewing income, assets and credit and then 60 days later determine that 2 of those 3 items are not good? A friend knew I was obtained a lender and asked for a recommendation. I did NOT recommend Key Mortgage and gave her contact information for a different lender, and I'll tell you why. I paid the non-refundable application fee, but 45 minutes later I was notified the seller canceled. I believe one reason is the closing date was too late b/c Key Mortgage ("KM") wanted to wait 30 days after a $50 federal student loan payment was made. Why? I paid my rent of almost $2k and private loan of $300 on time, every month, even during Covid. The property closed over a month before my scheduled closing date. So, I feel KM cut me off at the knees. But that's not it! Since the seller cancelled 45 minutes after I paid the $450 loan application fee, I asked for a refund since KM did not have time to process the application or schedule the appraisal. They said NO! I understand paying for a good/service that is non-refundable. But I didn't receive the good/service, so they basically took my $450 and I got nothing in return. My application wasn't accepted or denied b/c it was never processed. I was beyond disgusted and extremely regretful that I chose KM. I worked with Alex - he was nice but in the end he treated me like a loan number and not a person. So, KM lost TWO accounts (me and my friend) so I hope the $450 was worth it. There is a reason Key Mortgage is such a poor place to get your financing, Stephen DiMarco it's president! The ONLY redeeming factor is it is owned by BairdWarner real estate and the agents there are great. DiMarco is a JERK and the way this company operates shows it. Requests by them of 3 to 4 times for the same information, then they claim it was never sent to them. Everyone is wrong except them. When everyone involved in the transaction says Key Mortgage is the problem, THEY ARE THE PROBLEM!!!!! BairdWarner agents are great real estate company, especially in the Glen Ellyn office but stay away from Key Mortgage!!! Better yet BairdWarner should fire Mr DiMarco immediately. read more

I felt misled and pressured to lock in loan terms and rates that I was not comfortable with. I was told to expect lower numbers in documents that followed and that the terms of my loan estimate were "high estimates." In retrospect, I think they were talking about higher estimations of fees while I was focusing on the higher than expected interest rate. To beat his loan estimation in the final disclosure, very large, obvious credits being paid by the seller were left out of the loan estimation. A very obvious ploy. Ironically, when I went to closing my closing disclosure was missing my attorney's fees so I had to write a personal check at closing anyway. This was a quintessential "used car salesman" experience that I categorically regret. read more

If there was a minus 5 star rating, I would use it. We've been in process to conduct a refi for more than a few weeks, as of today. On November 17th an appraisal was conducted. Due to unfortunate circumstances the appraisal had to be repeated a few days later. The final appraisal report indicated many errors and inaccuracies. For example, our house was identified as having 4 bedrooms and 2.1 baths - despite the fact that there were photos of 5 bedroom - all above grade - and 3.1 baths. In addition, the comps used only 4 bedroom homes, not 5 bedroom homes. When I asked for a revised appraisal with accurate information and comparable homes, the broker initially told me that sometimes 4 bedroom homes are compared to 5 bedroom homes. Following the brokers logic, I asked for a revised appraisal using 5 & 6 bedroom homes in the comps. My request was denied. As of today, two and a half weeks later, I still don't have an accurate or correct appraisal. Further, I'm told today, there will not be an accurate appraisal forthcoming. I'm told the appraisal is for the lender not for me. I realize I'm only the customer in the refi process. I also realize there are many other mortgage companies from which to choose. I will happily chose another. I strongly encourage others to do choose a mortgage company other than Key Mortgage. Dear Key Mortgage; Please consider my non refundable $450 refi initiation fee as my Christmas gift to you. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! read more

Bernard was available almost constantly (day/night/weekends) was extremely helpful and consistent throughout our 1st home-buying process. As soon as we liked a property, I sent Bernard a quick email and within hours we had our pre-approval letter for the property. We had to do that 3 times to find the right home that accepted our offer. The closing process was smooth and yes it was a lot of work getting all the info - you're buying a home, of course it should! Take your business elsewhere. Customer service is severely lacking. They did not return calls, missed every scheduled call and only called me during working hours. After ignoring me for a week, and seemingly not wanting my business, I received an email asking me to pay $450!? They showed absolutely no concern for me as an individual and it's almost like they turned their nose up to me because I was not buying an expensive home. They almost caused me to lose the house with their unprofessional, rude antics and inability to return a call in a timely manner. They also ordered the appraisal without even asking me and I was still in the attorney review-inspection phase. I just received an email out of the blue that they ordered the appraisal without even asking me. They do not listen, and they do not care. They taught me a lesson as a first time home buyer and not a good one. I was told the $450 that they took from me was an "appraisal fee" and that I'd be refunded if I didn't use their services or get my home loan from them. When I first got pre-approved they told me my rate was 3.75%. After they took my $450 "appraisal fee", (even though they never did an appraisal for me), they said my rate had risen to 4.25%. I obviously decided to look at my financing options. I found another mortgage company that could do my financing for 3.5% fixed over 30 years, and my "appraisal fee" was only $350. Lesson learned Key Mortgage doesn't tell you that they won't refund the $450 because what they tell you is an "appraisal fee" in the beginning to get your money over the phone turns into what they call an "application fee", and they don't give it back. This is just bad business practice and not ethical at all especially when dealing with a first time home buyer. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!!! read more

Our agent, Danielle Wylie introduced me to Bernard Dugandzic when we were in the process of looking for our first home. Since the first phone call, I was so pleased with Bernard. I had called 4 other companies prior, and he was so kind and willing to explain the home buying and loan process to us in such great detail- we were so impressed. My husband and I were under contract for a townhome back in December 2015 but it fell through when our old loan place wasnt able to get paperwork done in time, there was so many miscommunications, and most importantly I felt they were just trying to get me to sign a bunch of papers just to get the sale. So when I talked to Bernard i had some experience and somewhat knew what I was doing but was still very much in the dark about the whole home buying process. Our first experience was NOT the case AT ALL with Bernard- he was really concerned for us, what we could afford and live comfortably, and he explained each document i had to sign and I felt so calm during such a hectic process. He was available at all hours (yes! He even answered the phone at 10pm! And on weekends!!) He was so good about getting back to us right away, or connecting us with the right person to get things done. It was so easy to work with him, and never once did he make me feel like I was asking a 'stupid question'. My husband and I were so thrilled when he told us about the Welcome Home IL first time home buyers program and was able to assist us in getting $7,500 to help with our down payment, and assisted us in asking for closing credit and we got another $3,800. And at closing- we ended up getting a check from the seller since he was able to get us so many credits- how does that even happen!? Seriously, if it wasnt for Bernard, and his great team- we would have spent so much more and been so lost. I cant thank him and Carol Mills enough for their help and their attentiveness to us. Key Mortgage started an application that I cancelled because I decided not to buy the home (bad inspection). Within a couple of days I let them know I would not be proceeding and never returned with the paperwork they asked me for in order to continue the application process. When I asked about the 450.00 fee to be refunded I was informed by their rep I would get 400.00 dollars but that I would lose 50.00 for the "processing fee". I waited for weeks to receive the refund to my account and nothing happened. When I called their office a few times there was no response from anyone so I left a message detailing my concern and to call me back. No call back. Finally after filing a complaint with the BBB someone called to tell me that I had signed a document stating that there was no refund. I was shocked because I don't recall that document being explained to me as a non-refundable agreement and in fact know that it was not explained to me at all. I then remembered that when it was placed in front of me the rep stated that it was the signature for the charge as if it were any other charge. I explained this to the person in charge to which she responded defensively and reminded me I'd signed the document stating I would not be eligible for a refund. I reminded her that they did not work for that fee since I'd cancelled the process early on. When I asked for them to present me with a receipt of expenditures on their part they sent me a 20.00 credit report fee. Hence nothing else had been done at all so I should have received a 430.00 refund. In the end they never refunded me and the rep compensated me part of the fee because in his words he felt badly. Key Mortgage is seedy in my opinion and the fact that they have people signing a non-refundable document is indicative of it. The fact that they did not complete the work and earn the money does not matter to them as long as they have your money and can keep it. I would not give them one star but unfortunately Yelp requires at least one star. They don't deserve any rating. I ended up getting a loan via the developer for free and getting 4,000.00 in closing costs. That's the way to go people! Say no to Key Mortgage! There are much reputable companies out there that are mortgage brokers who seek the best rate for you. Look at their ratings on Yelp and with the BBB. Do your homework so you don't get stiffed by a company like this one. read more

Baird & Warner should not be recommending Key Mortgage. These people pressure you to sign when you are not done inspecting your property. They told me if the inspection didn't pass they would not cash my check for the appraisal. Inspection did not pass and I did not end up finding a house I liked. They ended up cashing my check anyway but there was no appraisal done. They said I have credit for the next house I choose but I am not looking at houses anymore. They went from calling me all the time to avoiding my calls. These people are desperate. Their quoted closing fees where not even that good now that I've compared them. Stay away. read more
