After losing one of only two keys provided when my garage door installer installed a garage door with a lock opened by a very, very small key, I was in desperate need of finding a place to make several extra copies of keys in case I lost the last remaining key into my garage. This was the beginning of a weeks' long journey that took me through several Home Depots, several corner bodegas, and several professional locksmiths with their own storefronts, before I was recommended to go to Key Star Locksmith by the very same garage door installer who uses them all the time. After eight unsuccessful attempts to have copies of keys made elsewhere, the team at Key Star Locksmith was honest, optimistic, professional, reasonably priced, and as prompt as possible given several other (return/long-term?) customers waiting. But they finally delivered two (since we weren't 110% certain) extra copies of a key that no one else apparently was able to duplicate. The shape of the original key that needed to be duplicated is apparently quite unusual. With that in mind, the locksmith at Key Star Locksmith even had to go out to their mobile van to use equipment inside it to create an extra groove in my duplicate keys so that they would finally work in my garage door. They took their time, insisted, and persevered until they created 2 copies of a key, after others failed when they tried, if they even tried it all. TREMENDOUS SERVICE Dimitri was an absolute pleasure to work with! I cannot express that enough. My elderly aunt agreed to put a smart lock on her apartment door to eliminate drama about who had a key and also so that we could come check on her if she can't get to the door. Key Star Locksmith stood out on Yelp because of the many good reviews and the fact that they accept checks (my aunt is old school). I called and was connected to Dimitri who patiently listened to the situation, gave me a quick rough estimate and said he would let me know when he could come. He texted me in a few hours and was able to come the following morning. I texted him a bunch of questions to which he promptly responded. Unfortunately, I am in a different state so I could not be there for the appointment but Dimitri showed empathy and went above and beyond to help my aunt. After he and his partner installed the lock, he facetimed me because my aunt's cell phone wasn't set up enough to download the necessary app and my aunt is hopeless with technology. He patiently went through all the steps with me to get her phone set up so that he could pair it to the lock. Once paired, he showed me how to use the lock, change the batteries, and had me test out the app to make sure there were no issues or questions. They also mentioned that in addition to disabling the previous lock, they could put a "blank" in it so that my aunt wouldn't be confused as to which hole to put the key and told me how much that would cost. This was an excellent suggestion. They addressed every single concern and need, including making sure that my aunt could reach the lock from her wheelchair. They also were able to move the preexisting chain lock down for her. They made sure she was comfortable working the lock before leaving. The smart lock came with one key and they are able to make as many copies as you want on the spot. While facetiming I took note of the neat work they had done and they had blankets laid out to protect the work area. After about 4 hours of diligent work, the (reasonable) price was exactly what was expected. I love the transparency. Dimitri gave me a final call and texted me a photo of the finished product when they left. It was extremely refreshing to encounter such kind, patient, honest, communicative, competent and efficient people. It's so rare these days. It was very hard to get this guy to help with my key. With the car company, they told me he will come at 12:30 to get my key fix. 2 pm passed. I call them and i was told he will come here at 2:30 pm possible. call the guy. the guy said he will come here at 2:30 just because ... "no reason." I find it very upsetting that, if you promise a customer that you would come at this time, please show up or let them know it would be delay. I won't let my customer wait for additional 2 hours just because "... no reason." People are busy and they don't have time to spare. it is very upsetting that some people are very inconsiderate of other people time. it is even more upsetting that some people have poor communication. just a phone call to let the person know you cannot make it can make a big difference. read more

THANK YOU WILLIE!!! Key star and Willie were the heroes to my evening! I came back home one evening and found myself locked out of the house...what a bad end to a nice day! After about 30 mins of trying to get my luck to turn, I called a 24 hr. locksmith. After trying 2 other locksmiths before I called Key Star. Willie was very responsive, and got to my house within 15 mins.! It turns out a plate in my lock broke and the lock needed to be replaced. It was an old door lock and to replace it with a new one, would've cost about $600 with labor included. That was a lot of money for a new lock! Willie gave me a very reasonable alternative, A new deadbolt and a plate with the removal of the old bolt so that I don't accidentally lock myself out with the old one. It cost a fraction of what the original option would have been! Good, quick service at a reasonable price is all anyone wants in my situation. Unfortunately, the previous calls for help didn't turn out that way. One of the locksmiths I called (I won't tell you which) told me, after a couple of calls from a dispatcher, that it would be an hour plus an additional $20 (was already quoted $179 just to show up) for someone to come by. I said "no" I won't work with a company that takes advantage and try to milk people like that. I ended up calling another company and was told someone will call back...no such response. I wish Key Star was the first locksmith I called, it would have saved me time and aggravation. If I ever need a locksmith, I now know who I can depend on! read more

The keys work!!!! They are open for business! I have been to several locksmiths who cut keys that don't work. These guys have the master blanks, their keys work and they are open for business. I hate going to a locksmith to find out they never open their doors. And many locksmiths don't carry all the blanks.
