This place is legit. I came here around noon on a Thursday. They have a walk up order window that has a few chairs for while you're waiting or if you want to eat outside. Inside has 2 chairs as well. I ordered the famous Cuban, a Cafe con Leche sweetened, and a pastel de coconut. Prices were very reasonable, and the sandwich was huge. It took a little bit to get the food because they make the sandwiches to order and it was a bit busy, but definitely worth the wait, and the people working were super friendly. The sandwich had the perfect amount of everything and it all played together beautifully. The coffee was strong and had good flavor and wasn't too overly sweet when they sweetened it. This will definitely be on my list to return if I'm in the area again.

Ok this hole in the wall place is far from Posh. It sits on the side of a gas station and my husband was skeptical but I wanted authentic Cuban Empanadas, and that's what I got! The chicken had a hint of lime which I wasn't expecting. I especially liked the beef empanadas and the cheese rolls. I was so happy to find empanadas on a Monday. Most places in the area close on Mondays which is how I stumbled upon this gem.

I am really growing to love dining at gas stations. Key West Cuban Cafe is located in a Citgo. It is the kind of place that is a locals favorite. It kept popping up on my Yelp feed so I stopped by for lunch when I was in the area today. They are building a new residential complex next door so there is a lot of construction. The cafe has a front window so you don't have to go into the gas station unless you want to pay with a card or grab a drink. You can pay cash at the window. I picked the Monte Cristo made with thick slices of ham and grilled cheese ($8). It was a giant grilled sandwich that came with pickles and chips. I could only finish half. I also wanted a guava pastel which Eric added for free. While I waited for my food he brewed me up a cup of Cuban coffee and then even gave me one to go for later. The food is awesome but the real gem in this place is the owner Eric. He instantly makes you feel like you are hanging out with a long time friend. While I was waiting for my food a mom walked up with her little daughter who was also gifted with free pastry. She said she was Cuban and found her way here through word of mouth from other Cuban friends. That is a high recommendation but you don't have to be Latin to love it here. Anyone who appreciates great food will feel right at home.

Located in the Citgo Gas Station , this is one of those unassuming spots , popular hole in the wall where I had to check it out. Being lactose intolerant yet craving for a good Cuban coffee they were so accommodating when I asked if there was a possibility I can substitute the 'milk' for a non dairy option. This place is a trip! And Eric -- the owner(?), chef, cook, waiter -- one man band staff was tripping! The sound of Latin dance music was playing as regulars and tourists stood at the window to order and get their food and chat with Eric. Eric has a funny offbeat sense of humor. Trust Marqus to find this place. I know if I'm looking for an unusual venue with food, I can use his reviews as a guide. So, this place is located in the Citgo station on the corner of 6th street and US 1 in Pompano. You can park in a corner of the station and walk over to the window or park by the post office alley and walk from there. It's strictly a "to go" spot. Eric has his regulars -- those that come for Cuban coffees... and caffe con leches. He knows who takes it black and how much milk they want, etc. As I was waiting for my order, he also gave mini coffees to all of us. I had to give mine to the guy I was standing next to... as I knew it would be too strong for me. But everyone around me was saying how good it was. In addition to sandwiches, there are Cuban pastries (I saw the guava ones), empanadas and croquettes. They also list a few complete meals on the paper menu pasted to the window. Prices are very reasonable on all items. Eric sliced the ham and pork freshly in front of me. Heated both up. Piled on the pickles and mustard and meats and then press grilled the bread. Along side in the take out container, he placed a few more pickle chips and potato sticks. And he cut it in half diagonally as traditionally they are.... To pay, I put cash in the little glass jar out front and he gave me change. I have no idea if he accepts credit cards. As soon as I got in the car, I couldn't resist taking a bite of my media noche. Darn if it wasn't really one of the best I've ever eaten. I can't wait to bring my girlfriend here for her daily coffee fix or my husband to try one of the delicious Cuban offerings.

Don't skimp on the Jimmy joints! Hen we finally found this tiny spot we almost didn't purchase. If you blink you won't find it. It's at the CITGO station in the corner. I was desperate ant honestly, it reminded me of my trip to Cuba where the places were shabby but the cafe con Leche was heavenly. Same here. We are self proclaimed coffee snobs and will be back in the morning to get another cup. They close at 3pm. Note, if they would clean up and spruce up the place a bit and offer iced coffee and market the brand from the street level I bet they'd really do well.

Key West Cuban Café is a real surpriser. You wouldn't guess it was here which is inside the 599 Citgo gasoline station. At least I didn't see any signs on the outside telling me about it. Though it says "café, "it might pass for such in Cuba, but for here it's really a counter order take out operation. But if you want the best Cuban sandwich around and at a bargain price, this is one of the best places around. I had their Cuban with Serrano ham and found it to be really good, especially at $7.50. They have about have about 6 other sandwich choices including a Cuban Sloppy Joe (it's actually a traditional Pan con Picadillo). There is also a good selection of coffees. If you are in need of a jolt, the Cafecito will do it for you. Plus they have pastries like a guava pastels and empanadas. Then if you like several complete meal items to select from.

If you are looking for a taste of Key West style Cuban food without the drive, you can find it at a Citgo on US 1 in Pompano believe it or not! Walk-up counter service, this little joint is packed with authentic Cuban flavor. I started with a ham croquette, it was served over potato sticks (awesome touch) and literally just melted in my mouth. Next I tried their Medianoche sandwich. It had Serrano ham, two types of pork, melted swiss, mustard & pickles. It took a few minutes as it was made fresh, but absolutely worth the wait! I sat on one of their stools and watched many locals come for their daily cafe con leche fix so of course I had to try a cafecito. It was only a $1! I ordered a guava and cream cheese pastelito for the road, it will be my dessert for later as I was too full to enjoy there. Overall an excellent experience and I will definitely be back the next time I am craving Cuban food.

Tried it today. Excellent in all respects. Really appreciated the Cuban Coffees while our sandwiches were being prepared. Also had a croqueta that was delicious. Can't wait to try their Cuban Sloppy Joe, the picadillo con pan. The proprietor was as delightful to talk to while we waited. Take out only ( as well as Grubhub) but worth your time. read more

We were vacationing in Pompano Beach and decided to have some Cuban sandwiches. There were a handful of places but we settled in on the Key West Cuban Cafe as the reviews were all positive. We passed it on our first drive by as it is literally attached to the CITGO gas station. Needless to say, we were nervous. But that all changed when we were greeted by an enthusiastic gent who offered us some Cuban coffee as we made our selections. He spoke with us, answered questions and let us try the Swiss cheese and pork for the Cubano sandwich. We ended up buying 4 sandwiches, rice and Piccadillo and some pasties. All were much better than average and the Cubano was one of the best I've ever had. Don't let the location fool you, we'll be back!!! read more

EAT HERE!! This man that operates this cafe is truly an amazing soul! My friends and I stopped in after reading about his food on here and he was actually getting ready to leave to go work in his car but he stayed and made us fresh À la carte orders. We chatted most of the time and I tell you what, he is something else! He told us some amazing stories, one that really truely spoke a lot about who he is and where his life has taken him and he even had my gullible friend convinced he was going to make her a horse meat sandwich everyone else was laughing and she was just like oh.....that's really what we're going to eat?! Lol the way he moved around the kitchen and cookking, you can tell he LOVES what he's doing and it's something that makes him happy. The food was fucking AMAZING, i was bummed when we ran out of sandwiches and empanadas later that night! read more

The best Cuban food this side of Miami. The owner (cook) gives very generous portions. Prices are super fair. Food is delicious. I have been a repeat customer for a few months now and I am not a tourist. I'm a year round resident living near the ocean, so I have many great choices. I like to order from the best "local" restaurants. I usually do not "bother" to write reviews but this Cafe deserved good feedback. read more

Cuban sandwich is not authentic, made sandwich in like 2 mins, bread was too hard. If your looking for a good Cuban I would go somewhere else. You would think it would be good gas station food since I read the other reviews. Would not recommend. read more

Well I *Definitely* have found a new favorite stop for lunch - this unassuming little piece of heaven, nestled in a gas station walk-up window (yes, you heard that right) ... Eric, the owner is a really great guy to chat with, I went during a were dead slow time and he made me a Cuban Coffee Shot to enjoy while my food cooked (another thing I will be back for, WOW) ... Everything looked amazing (he has plates pre-made and wrapped in the window so You can see what's in the combo plates, etc) but once my order came and i ran back to the hotel with it, my tastebuds were nothing short of "Happy Happy Happy". Don't let the location mislead you, this is a hands down MUST STOP for one of the best Cubanos I have ever had. read more

This has been opened for about 4 months now and never knew it was there it's a hidden gem at a gas station. I ordered the Cuban sandwich to give it a try thinking since I'm not in Miami it was gonna be some Americanized version of the Cuban sandwich until it came out and I knew then this place was gonna be my spot. Very lovable service and clean kitchen I must say. Its definitely a must check out place. Stop by for a coffee/ Colada for those who love that strong Cuban style coffee. Found this gem purely by accident. Was at the gas station filling up my car and accidentally locked my keys, purse, phone inside. You would think this was the worst day ever but no. Went to the window to try to get the use of a phone and was greeted by the loveliest guy Eric who runs this establishment. Not only did he and a patron help me in the use of a phone to get me my spare set of keys, but Eric treated me to DELICIOUS Cuban coffee and warm pastries while I waited just out of the goodness of his heart. I was there for a good 30 minutes waiting for my friend. WHAT A FIND!!!! Not only was everything absolutely delicious, but I met a couple of people that will make your heart smile. Still some really great people in this world that just want to help someone out. This is my new GO TO spot for Cuban deliciousness!!!! read more

Man, I can't say enough good things about this little Cuban shop in a place that you would least expect. Please, please, please make it a point to go here. It's in a CITGO station right by the side of the road. Walk up service window. The owner, Eric, is personable and so kind. He gave us a couple of cortaditos on the house as we made introductions and small talked for 10-15 minutes about life and how he came to open the business. The Guava Pastel and Monte Christi were exquisite!!! He told us about his food and how he likes to prepare it. It was such a friendly and personable visit that i couldn't wait to get in the car and leave him this review. We got our to go boxes and jumped in to do so, and no joke as I'm writing this, came and knocked on our window to bring us two coffees for the road. "It's a long drive to the keys" he said. I can tell Eric is passionate about his business and he's doing an excellent job of making it a place to visit and enjoy. GO HERE!!! ITS WORTH GOING OUT OF YOUR WAY!! read more

This place is a diamond in the rough! I was on my way to Dunkin Donuts on my morning coffee run and saw this place deciding to turn there instead and cut my trip short. What an awesome decision. Frederick was feeding me Coladas as I was looking over the menu for a taste test. He recommended me to a Cubano sandwich. When I got home with my food it was not to disappoint with the first bite. Stopped in today for the first time ordered a Cuban of course! Never thought I'd buy a sandwich at a CITGO but was pleasantly surprised! Everything was perfect! Service, taste and size! Told the guy I was splitting it with the wife after he boxed it and he took it back split it between two boxes one for her one for me. If I didn't tell her she would have thought it was the entire sandwich! Also gave me a sample coffee to try. Highly recommend will definitely be going back soon! read more

First time in Fort Lauderdale, and we wanted a simple and quick meal. Stopped by this place because it was close and it was THE BEST! Empanadas, croquettas, and cuban sandwiches! It's a one man show, and he makes everything right there. Plus, he's got all the coffee you could need. Espresso and cortaditos were just what we needed. Service is 100% and the prices are insanely cheap. It's unassuming inside a gas station, but he's churning out good food on the go, or a quick stand and eat at the counter. Loved it! read more

Great food great flavor and I got to be honest cool ass owner. We spoke about money life and dreams all in the midst of making my sandwich and then told me the coffee was free. The owner was sitting there while we were there, and to be clear, she's Colombian, not Cuban. That matters when you're claiming a Cuban spot, especially in South Florida where people actually know the difference. Now the coffee. I ordered a colada and it came out ridiculously sweet. I'm talking over-the-top, almost undrinkable. We had to reorder it with less sugar, and they didn't even offer to replace the first one. That alone tells you a lot about how they handle things. Then the Cuban sandwich. They put mustard and mayonnaise on it. Let me say that again. Mayonnaise. On a Cuban sandwich. That is straight-up wrong. As a Miami native, I'm telling you, that's an abomination. If you grew up around real Cuban food, you already know that doesn't fly. And if you're defending it... I don't know what to tell you. Lol. Look, I'm not trying to be harsh for the sake of it. But when you call yourself Cuban in a place like South Florida, there's a standard. This place doesn't meet it. Unless you've got nothing better to do, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for "Cuban" food.

In general this has been a consistently good Cuban restaurant with authentic food and extremely friendly staff.
