He very recently fixed my two ancient Korgs from the early 80's: Lambda and Trident, even when other techs couldn't ! (He even fixed the Trident in less than a week despite the lack of availability of decent schematics !) I've been to a famous tech in Burbank who after two years did nothing. I was extremely disappointed by the high cost, untimeliness and poor communication I received using this repair service. I needed work done on two older Yamaha and Korg keyboards for some common repairs: replace two broken plastic keys, replace the felt keyboard bumper strips and change out an internal CR-2032 battery. Although I initially paid $125 for each to diagnose the problems, I was not told the full cost ($750+) until the work was completed, a month later. Labor is calculated at $125/hour and quantity used after-the-fact. The repairs wound up costing more than the keyboards were worth and I would not have gone through with it if he had communicated that to me. I mentioned that to him ahead of time. The Yamaha worked well after the repair, but the Korg needed additional work to restore the Combi/Program patches - which was the main reason I brought it in. I was told that the battery change would do that, but it did not. Since the Combi and Program patches/sounds were not restored, I was told that I could probably buy the disc online and reload the factory settings myself. Unfortunately, the drive itself needed repair (new belt) before I was able to use it. All of this work was done at additional cost, which could have been minimized with a more thorough inspection when the keyboard was opened for the battery replacement. The owner was very courteous throughout the process, but that did not make up for the many shortcomings of his operation. read more

My experience with this place made me want to join yelp and write my first review. Brought in a keyboard for them to look at and diagnose. $50 to take a look and give me an idea of what's wrong, no problem. I was a little surprised when they said it'd take 2 weeks for them to get to it but I was really not in any rush and agreed. 2 weeks came and went. 3 weeks. 4 weeks. 5 weeks. Not a word. So I contact them to check the status. I get a glaring lie-filled email saying that my keyboard was on the rack right now and they were just waiting on some parts they ordered which could take an additional week or so. I reply by saying that the plan was 2 weeks to give me a diagnosis of the problem. Why would they be ordering parts for a supposed repair I never authorized? They mumbled something then said they would have to get back to me later that day. Week 6. Week 7. Week 8. No reply. I finally give them an ultimatum and said that if you don't have time to look at my keyboard, I have to pick it up and take it to someone who has time to look at it. You told me 2 weeks and we are on 2 months and counting. Finally they look at it to come back to me and say they can't repair it. I go in to pick my keyboard up and it is still disassembled so I have to sit there waiting to get my still broken keyboard. I have no problem with them not being able to fix it. I do have a problem with them telling me 2 weeks, then unapologetically stringing me along for over 2 months. I am a businessman and couldn't imagine treating any client so dismissively. At one point after I received their lie-filled email, I caught myself dwelling on them and how I was being treated. I felt ill and angry. Hopefully somebody will come across my review and not give them their business. read more

I should have written this 6 months ago. First off... a $120 deposit so that they can diagnose the issue. A promised phone call or email if the cost will exceed over $300 dollars - fair enough. About a couple months later they say my board is finished - great! Nothing was resolved and had the same symptoms, so they said they would take another look and let me know if its over $300 dollars. 3 months later follow up and they respond that they are busy and will get to it. I show up unexpected about a month later and they say hey great your board is done! Plug it up and nothing was resolved... same issues. Finally tell me that the issue would probably be $600 + to fix decided to not "fix it" due to my past experiences and get billed over $300 dollars not including my deposit (what happened to my call? I didn't authorize that). Owner asked how I felt about that, and of course I was not happy because nothing was resolved. His answer was that he couldn't work for free or the lights wouldn't be on. Don't waste your time or money. Bad communication, bad work ethics, belittling service. If they don't fix your problem they will say they spent time diagnosing/repairing it when it's probably been stored away. They may tell you it's fixed and when you pick it up it will have the same problem, but they will call it intermittent failure. Stay away I ended up researching online and ended up solving the problem on my own. As I fixed my issue I knew that the repairs described were false. As much as I want to use positive intent, I could judge the lack of knowledge when they tried to operate it in front of me. read more

Just picking up my Yamaha S90. The stand gave out and the keyboard fell, puncturing the bottom board and knocking the key action out, making the keys unplayable. I took our Clavinova CLP 330 to Randy to repair a broken key. Two hours later he called to tell me it was finished. Although the piano has been played 1-2 hours per day for five years, he happily informed me that it's innerds were as good as new. He could have taken advantage and done a lot of extra maintenance work and charged me an extra $300 for it. Instead I walked out with a total bill of $100. Clearly, he treated me according to the Golden Rule. I wouldn't expect him to do repairs in two hours, but if you are looking for an extremely knowledgeable and honest specialist, look no further. read more

I was inquiring about getting a deep cleaning on my digital piano and he wanted $120 an hr. That's some what reasonable. Here's the kicker, I live 10 minutes from him and he wanted $100 for coming to my house. 0 stars. They kept my vintage synthesizer for 6 months with no contact, when I finally called them they had not yet touched it and gave me excuses about their computer problems. They had it another four months, charged me $125, and not only did they fail to fix the problem, when it got back to me it was in even worse condition and completely unusable. These guys are a bunch of overpriced hacks who fail completely at customer service, I'm not sure of anyone else in San Diego who does this kind of work, but you are better off driving to LA or shipping your unit off than dealing with this level of incompetence and poor treatment. If I lived closer I would go back so I could call this guy a hack to his face and demand my money back. read more

Randy from Keyboard Service is very kind and knowledgeable. I thought I had ruined my Yamaha P-95 keyboard. It had an aftermarket power supply adapter that had become disconnected when I moved the keyboard. When I re-connected the separated parts back together and plugged it into the keyboard, it sparked. Then the keyboard no longer worked. I googled and surmised that I had reversed polarity when I plugged it back together the wrong way. I thought I had fried the circuit board or something else inside the keyboard. But when I phoned Randy, he was extremely nice. He listened to my story and suggested that perhaps I had just ruined the power supply adapter. I bought another one online, and presto....my keyboard now works again. I took my Roland FA-06 to Randy Jarvis Keyboard in La Mesa a couple of days after New Year's 2019. The problem with the unit was 5 keys didn't work at all, no response whatsoever. Randy told me it would take sometime but he would get back to me as soon as possible. I wasn't expecting too much with this type of open ended timeframe. 1 week later I got an email from Randy saying that my keyboard was ready and the total cost was the amount of my deposit.
