We had a twenty year old Yamaha keyboard that had a stuck key and the sound was off due to grandchildren messing with it. However since we paid a lot for it back then when it was top of the line we hoped it could be fixed to hand down to an older more responsible grandchild. We decided we didn't want to overspend money on it since it was aging. We left a $75 deposit to diagnose the problem and were told we would be called if there would be any additional charge and the deposit would be applied. I would not have spent more than $100. No call came and then we were called that it was done and the bill was $200. We questioned this on pickup and our only recourse offered was they could undo the repairs. I am very happy I did as I had a very pleasant experience and was able to get my turntable up and running after months! I spoke with Mike the owner and he was very kind. I appreciated his honesty and non judgmental tone on telling me I just needed to adjust the counterweight on the arm (which I hadn't done in years!) he let me know they are typically have a turn around time of 2 weeks but since he could see my issue wasn't broken he didn't hold my item for that time! Now that is what you call great customer service! I hope I don't have too many more audio repair issue but if I do this will be the place I go even if I have to make a drive! I just had my Roland Jupiter-X repaired, and he did an excellent job. Pricing was quite reasonable ($100/hour for labor), and he accommodated a special request to receive my equipment after hours to avoid traffic. Right now, it seems like this is the only repair spot still open in San Diego County, and I didn't want to drive multiple trips to LA and back for this repair. As such, his lead time is a bit long at the moment (he had a lot of work orders at the time), but he offers multiple tiers of expedited service for emergencies (which I happily paid for). DONT LEAVE YOUR GEAR AND FIND SOMEONE ELSE! This guy has the audacity to charge me 175 for 2mic cleanings? I left the mic's in October 2023 and only got them back because I got sick of waiting and calling repeatedly for an update only to get ignored. It appears he got his ass up yesterday and found the mic's fast due to my phone call saying I wanted them now, fixed or not fixed. Also, he said he would CALL me for the repair estimate and NEVER did! A few other reviewers said the same thing. He charges you without consulting you the final price or estimate! Dkhead! When I went there (1/30/2024) he said they where cleaned and gave me a bill of $156.00 bucks minus the $50 left for 2 mics. If I had not called they would of not been seen still. He did NOT even apologize for the stupidly long waiting time, as if nothing! Acted as if it did not matter to him, all non challant! Like. meh, whatever! I also feel he kept them that long because he says he makes clone mic's and mine was a Neuman replica/s OctavaMK-319 and Oktava MK 012-01. He salivated looking at my MK319 bragging about his remakes. I wonder if he took that long to clean mine because he might have taken parts to create a clone? Did he remove parts and replace em with cheap ones on mine? Not sure but I do have matching pairs and will find out if the matching one at home remains matched? From what I hear and read he's lazy and does not give rats ass if he takes his time keeping you waiting. So, if you want to leave your gear for a long long time then sit and wait! Pro's like me do NOT accept this and will NO LONGER TRUST this guy! I paid the balance just so I can run from there and will find a more reliable person with better customer etiquett I'm going to send the mic's to another shop and ask if they are matched and test the paired mic's structure and parts and for his sake and reputation they are the same before I file a lawsuit. I've been pleased with him before, but this week I brought him a keyboard for a very minor repair, paid $75 extra for a rush job because I'm only in San Diego for the week, and will be returning to Big Bear tomorrow where I perform regularly. He promised to have it ready this morning but did not return calls yesterday or today. I came to pick it up anyway but his shop was closed so I don't know if I can even get my keyboard before I have to leave. *UPDATE posted a few days later... He had told me on the phone I needed to pick it up by 11 that day because he was leaving on vacation. I was there before 11, and fortunately hung around a while after posting the first part of this review, talking with someone else who had come to see him. He showed up about 11:30 and said I'd misunderstood him about picking it up by 11, he'd have it ready later that day, and give me a call, which he did. So other than a little panic on my part due to the miscommunication, he came through and I'm good to go. He knows his stuff, but without the extra charge for rush service, he said he has about a 10 week backlog. Just something to be aware of, I don't think most musicians want to be without their gear that long. read more

My eldest son gave me a pair of earbuds for Father's day. Of course the earbuds have great sentimental value. My youngest torn one of the earbuds apart, ripping of the cable connecting to the speaker. My eldest and I were very sad about it. I called about 7 different shops in town to try and get them fixed. Some told me they do not repair earbuds, some told me they could not fix it because they could not work in such small space. Mike told that he would take a look and would fix them if he could, So I took the earbuds to him. After inspecting them for five seconds, he told me "I can fix this". I 100% recommend Mike at Audio Doctor. He fixed an older Paradigm Servo-15 subwoofer that stopped working. Mike was able to diagnose the problem and get my unit back to tip-top shape, and all for about $200. A comparable new sub would have set us back about $1,500-$2,000. Don't mind other reviewers who complain about turnaround times. Mike's shop is popular for a good reason and he tells you upfront that it may take weeks for him to get to your equipment, but once he does he's fast about it. He was able to fix my sub in less than a day once he was able to look at it and give me an estimate. If you want it done "fast," you probably want to go somewhere else. But, if you want it done "right" (the first time) Mike is your guy! We are fortunate to have a guy like Mike who knows what he's doing and can competently repair older AV and music equipment here in San Diego. He's a hidden gem. read more

In the middle of a pre-production for my recording project, when my KRK Rokit 8 Studio monitor started blowing fuses. I called Mike at Audio Doctor at 1pm on a Saturday, keep in mind that he closes at 2pm. He told me to bring it in and he would take a quick look. I arrived at 1:20pm. He opened it, found the problem in 30 seconds, and said, "I can fix this really quick". 20 minutes later (while he also still checked in 2 more customers for gear repair) and the bridge rectifier was replaced, volume pot and jack were cleaned, and he repaired the decorative ring around the speaker cone. But he was the first person that hotrodded my Digi 002 console about 10 years ago and changed out the opamps and other things back when he was working out in his garage in Pacific Beach. Then several years ago, I had to get the firewire port replaced on my Focusrite Saffire Pro DSP 24. I went to Audio Doctor about a year or so ago to bring in my Roland MC-500 MIDI sequencer. They said it would take a month or two before they even got around to the repair, cool with me. Unfortunately, they never did get around to the repair. I stopped by the shop multiple times snd they were closed when they were supposed to be open. I called many times without a response. Until one day about 4 months later I received a call back from Mike saying that they were about to start repairing the sequencer. He said he would call me back with a price and estimated repair time. He never called me back. I called him a few times as well as emailing him and going by the shop in person (why is the shop always closed?). At this point I have been without my sequencer for about a year, lost $50 for the upfront fee he charged, and overall have just been unhappy with the service. I understand you are very busy Mike, but it's been so long since I gave you my sequencer I've pretty much given up on ever getting it back. Since the shop was never open and my calls weren't returned, when I moved out of state 6 months ago I just gave up and purchased another unit. I have a home audio power amp that needed repair and searched all over San Diego to get it fixed!! A well known audio repair place(classic audio repair) even refused to take a look at it since it was not a brand they are familiar with!! So,after searching around I came across "Audio doctor" and decided to give it a try...
