I don't want anyone else to go through what we did while seeking help. Looking for help with the new dynamics of our family. Our 26 year old son was in a fatal car accident December of 2019. At our very first visit, I told Karen of the accident & that I was really struggling, grieving the death of our youngest son. Karen literally said, "You're not the only people that have lost a child, I wish you were but you're not". Her comment infuriated me, I couldn't believe what I had heard come from her mouth! I asked if she had kids, she replied that was irrelevant. I knew then she didn't, so how could she possibly understand our pain? She then scolded me for my reaction. I told her she was rude, and not very Christian like. If you/your family are struggling with the death of a child, do not go there for help. Thankfully, I was also going to a Grief Share group through our church. I explained to the leaders what had happened & they told me, not all counselors are grief counselors and the highest of education, not even a Ph.d can make a good counselor. Shame on you Karen!! My mentally ill suicidal child did not realize this was happening and during several crisis situations missed several appointments over the course of several months. When we finally received the bill 6 months later, it was outrageous. I don't have access to their portal so was unaware until months later when the bill came detailing what insurance had paid and late cancellation/no show charges. If this had been brought to our attention sooner, we could have prevented much of this & everyone would have been happier. The patient was never personally contacted to address the no show situation and it was not directly brought to her attention that she was being charged each time this happened. Don't tell me "she should have known, that's how this works," etc. there are grown, well-educated people who don't understand this stuff or how insurance works. The office staff needs to remember this & be sure the patient understands it as well.

When I mentioned scheduling elsewhere with a female provider, I was advised that I could no longer see the provider I was scheduled with at this clinic, and would need to pay $200 for canceling my appointment that they made me cancel because I was uncomfortable. The receptionists are very rude and unprofessional. Once you mention going somewhere other than to their clinic, they treat you terrible. I would advise going LITERALLY anywhere else.

I would never recommend this place to anyone suffering from anxiety and/or depression. The…read moresecretaries consistently record information wrong. They are incapable of properly billing insurances. When a problem with insurance occurred, Ames Therapy canceled all of my future appointments until I could pay the bill out of pocket. After attempting to verify my information over 10 times, they admitted that they did not have ANY of my insurance information entered correctly. When my insurance changed, again there was problems with my information being entered correctly (resulting in billing issues again). When my address changed, I informed them of this. Five months later I realized that they did not change my address, as my bills were being sent to my old address. I reccomend to anyone struggling with stress, anxiety, or depression to not resort to Ames Therapy. Attempting to get help from Ames Therapy is a struggle in itself. Sitting in an empty room is more helpful than attending Ames Therapy.

I can't even begin to properly convey how problematic my short time with PA has been, but I'll try…read more I underwent ADHD testing in February, and I was diagnosed officially, as well as with social anxiety and rejection sensitive dysphoria. The provider was thoughtful, on time and generally competent. Then it all went horribly wrong. As part of my treatment, I was referred to a therapist and a prescriber, both within the PA system. I first had my appointment with the therapist. I showed up on time, checked in, and waited. There was a sign at reception saying that if you have not been called back 10 minutes after the appointment start time, to let them know. At the 10 minute mark, I flagged them down, and they said that they would call the therapist again. Ten minutes later, she had still not come out even though reception kept calling her. My anxiety went through the roof, and I ended up leaving without ever being seen. I was rescheduled with another therapist, who then canceled my appointment the day before. I was rescheduled for 2 weeks later. My session was...weird. I believe the purpose of therapy is to allow the patient to talk, but the therapist seemed to make it a game to try to finish my sentences before I could. In the meantime, I have been receiving paper invoices when I specifically directed that for privacy purposes any billing statements be emailed or texted. HIPAA allows a patient to direct the format communications come in, and PA have completely disregarded my wishes. Both visits were denied by my insurance because the primary reason for the visits was noted as something completely different from the actual purpose. I'm not sure if it was a play to get more reimbursement, but it seems awfully shady. I requested both be resubmitted, and only one has, despite my repeated requests. Time is running out on the resubmission, so it looks like I'm going to be out several hundred dollars. I requested a refill of medication through Amazon pharmacy, which I have used for years. Amazon attempted to contact PA many times and they never responded, resulting in my having to go without my medication. Thankfully, I was able to explain the situation to my GP and he called in a script for me. They STILL have not called Amazon back. Another prescription was called into the wrong pharmacy, one that I do not have a relationship with so it took a while to get to the bottom of where it was sent and why no one called me about it. I called 11 days ago to speak to them about all the issues and the resubmission for insurance. I was told someone would get back to me that day as it was a priority. No call back. Ever. I called today to speak to them about the ongoing issues. I was told I would speak with a member of management. After being on hold for a lengthy period, I hung up. That was 3 hours ago and now the office has closed. Please stay far away. I wish I had. This level of incompetence, particularly with mental health services, would be laughable if it were not so damaging.

My experiences with this practice caused me significant psychological distress. I felt very condescended toward, and got the distinct impression that the clinicians here see mental illness as a weakness, and those with mental illnesses as fundamentally incompetent. I would recommend seeking treatment almost anywhere else.
