Absolutely loved this hotel. We're traveling cross country with our kids this summer so we've stayed in quite a lot of hotels. This one has by far been our favorite, even of the Marriott properties we've booked. It's a quick 10 min drive to Mt Rushmore and a short walk to restaurants and shops on the Main Street. The inside is a cool, cabin atmosphere with lots of places in the lobby to sit and coffee available for guests. I came down on our first night to get some work done and was very comfortable with my cup of coffee and view of their fireplace. Their hotel was booked out but there was plenty of parking. I read reviews of other hotels in the area having limited space because of the location, but this hotel didn't have that issue. Our room was clean, had a very pretty view of the woods behind the hotel (the windows open and we loved bringing in some fresh air), and most importantly, our room didn't smell like mold! We have quickly come to expect that most hotel rooms are going to smell moldy and while we've been willing to tolerate it for our short stays, our hotel preceding this one was so bad I had trouble sleeping, so I was beyond relieved to have a clean-smelling room here. That said, I do have to say that the elevator and lobby often had a sewage smell to it, which we noticed was also out in the parking lot. I'm not sure if it was coming from a trash bin somewhere and drifted in that way, but some extra effort in the lobby by way of wax melts or air plugs would help. Noting that the smell wasn't there the day we checked out. The complimentary breakfast was very good! Waffles, bacon, eggs, sausage and gravy (that was pretty delicious), muffins, cereal, yogurt, boiled eggs, bagels, juice, coffee. Super super well-appointed and they kept it refilled all the way to 9am instead of stopping when things ran out. If we ever come back to Keystone, this hotel will be our go to! The room came with: Mid-size mini fridge (with a freezer!!) Microwave Hair dryer

What a great find! Rooms are spacious and comfortable, staff is incredibly accommodating, breakfast is top-notch, location is excellent. Our stay was worth every penny - and it didn't cost a lot of pennies! If you are planning a visit to Mt. Rushmore or any of the other sites in the area, I highly recommend considering staying here.

Location, location, location! Staying at this location of the Holiday Inn worked out wonderful. They are a mere 2 miles from the entrance to Mt. Rushmore. That makes it nice to back and forth from that point with ease. This location is also within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The service here from easy and breezy. It took very little time to check in and out. The girls at the counter were pleasant and welcoming. I loved the rustic cabin decor greeting you when walking into the lobby. They also stock coffee all day for guests in this area. Complimentary breakfast is also served in the dining area off of the lobby. Our room was comfy and clean. Inside includes a kitchen area with microwave, single brew coffee maker and refrigerator. I like when they have the separate sitting and desk area. If Mt Rushmore is on your list of places to see, Holiday Inn made one less thing to worry about.

Caveat emptor. They gave our reserved room to someone else and refused to reimburse us for the trouble they caused.

The front desk and other staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping is by request but you can also easily ask for items at the front desk like trash bags, toilet paper, etc. The pool was fairly nice (water was pretty chilly and the tile outside the pool was very slippery when wet) but the hot tub was closed for maintenance sadly. We really wish there had been an outdoor area with a table or lounge furniture to be able to sit outside in the morning or evenings. We stayed in the more rustic rooms with outside entry. The door never seemed to latch/seal well and was loud. Beds were comfortable enough but moved a lot and the A/C worked overtime to keep the room cool. We didn't hear much from other rooms or from outside. The towels are very small and it should be standard to include a few more (especially for a two bed room). While parking is limited, it's convenient to be able to park outside your room for the most part. Hot water was good for the most part--there was one night where the shower would not stay hot but I think maybe a lot of people were using it at the same time. It was nice to have breakfast included but it doesn't start until 7am--this was too late if you want to get an early start to any of the area parks. It would be nice for it to start at 6:00 or 6:30am. While there's a coffee maker in the rooms, it's a small cup and would be nice if coffee in the lobby/breakfast area was also available earlier (before 7:00am).

Could it use a refresh/update inside? Sure, but what other place at their price point couldn't? Would we have liked a microwave in the room and breakfast? Sure, but we knew that's not what they had and that was fine. Each time we were in the office, it was a pleasant 15 minute affair with small talk, local information and just amazingly pleasant staff. Took 2 steps out our door, looked left, and could see the presidents' faces in the distance. The AC worked well, the beds and refrigerator were fine.

BE AWARE that this is an OLD property, as most/many of the hotels in the surrounding area are. So, you're not going to get a large, sprawling lobby, elegant decor, shiny new furnishings, etc. The air conditioning unit is a bit noisy, but it works. That being said, it is evident that the owners have invested themselves in making the most of what they have, with comfortable bedding, the addition of mini fridges and microwaves to the rooms, and a coffee/tea bar in the lobby stocked with fresh coffee all day. Most importantly, the rooms are CLEAN! Everything is in good repair and clean, and that's what matters most! This place offers a comfortable and enjoyable stay for your trip to Mt. Rushmore. And yes, as many others have mentioned, you can view Mt. Rushmore from the property, which is a nice bonus!

The Roosevelt Inn was clean, quiet, and had updated rooms. We had two rooms: a king room with balcony and a two-queen room. The king room had more space and a larger bathroom with a walk-in shower. The two-queen room was more cramped (not surprising) and had a smaller bathroom with a tub-shower combo. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast, which was included, included cold cereal, oatmeal with several toppings, eggs, sausage patties, and potatoes. There was also a machine that made pancakes. There were also several types of bread to toast. The juice machine had a couple different juices and the regular and decaf coffees were good. A lactose-free/non-dairy milk would have been nice. The hotel also had a swimming pool, a game room, and laundry facilities.
