I can't stop looking at my nails!…read more I've never done my nails outside before, so I was excited when my friend suggested doing our nails here. The spa is located on the second floor. Make sure to call to secure a spot, as they can easily get booked! The place is cash only, with tax if you Venmo/Zelle. The place was very chill, with the nail techs chatting with each other throughout my experience while they casually work their magic. I got the Gel Manicure ($40). They started off asking me to pick a color from a selection of books. Then the nail tech asked what shape I wanted, and began filing, shaping, and trimming my cuticles. Note to self and other nail newbies that nails need to grow out super long if you want square gel nails, to prevent the gel from touching your skin. The process was overall very relaxing, and fascinating for me to see the amount of care the lady puts into perfecting my nails. The process took around 1 hour 30 minutes, and even with my first time nails, the lady was chill and accommodated with patience, tips, and skill in making the gel manicure work on my short nails. Both my friend and I were very satisfied. My friend had the Regular Manicure ($15) and she noted how they added a finishing nail enamel spray, which other places don't do. Consider Arete for your next girls self care day!

Extremely Disappointed After 2+ Years of Loyalty -- Very Money-Hungry Business That Doesn't Value…read moreCustomers My sister and I have been loyal, consistent clients at this salon for over two years. Sadly, our recent experience has shown that they care more about money than treating their customers with basic respect and professionalism. I sent a deposit to secure an appointment, clearly expecting it to go toward the booking. At no point did I say it was a tip. The owner had previously canceled on me last minute, and I was understanding. Instead of asking for a refund, I chose to reschedule. When rescheduling, I was told a time with no clarification of AM or PM. Since I asked for the earliest slot, I assumed AM. I traveled from Brooklyn to Queens early in the morning and waited 45 minutes without a single response to my texts or calls. Hours later, I was finally told to come back. Frustrated but still loyal, I canceled other plans and returned--only to be offered a free manicure to make up for the mix-up. That day, my Uber costs alone were over $100--more than the cost of the service. Given all the inconvenience, I chose not to leave a tip, which is well within my rights as tipping is optional. I usually always tip, but not after that experience. Later, I was refused service completely--because I wanted to apply the deposit I had already sent toward a new appointment rather than let them keep it as a tip. Denying a loyal customer over something so small and unjustified is beyond unprofessional. This business lost two long-time clients over a situation that could've been resolved with basic communication and decency. If you value your time, money, and being treated with respect--go elsewhere And I'm happy you responded the way you did because you only proved my point more of how viewed your customers as optional and I wasn't valued as a customer after 2 years of loyalty and consistent tipping !

Instead, I received very rude service, which was unacceptable. I had no issues with the other staff, but because of this one employee, I won't be returning. Every request I made was rejected. It's my feet, and I should be able to make reasonable choices. I asked if I could wear my flip-flops so I could walk home afterward, and she said no. I also requested a base coat, and she blamed it for why my polish wouldn't dry quickly. During the polish application, she kept insisting on doing things her way without explaining in English, but it was obvious she didn't want to accommodate any of my preferences. The entire experience felt dismissive and unfriendly. Good customer service is about treating customers with respect, and unfortunately, that was missing during my visit.

This place left me with serious buyer's remorse--I regretted my decision to come here and even more so after paying so much. During my pedicure, the nail tech scrubbed my foot so aggressively with the exfoliating tool that she cut the underside of my toe. She seemed to realize it too, because she noticeably used less pressure on the other foot. I didn't notice the cut right away, but felt a sting afterward and saw the injury. When I pointed it out, she apologized--but said nothing in the moment and had me put my foot back into the water, which is a major hygiene concern and increases the risk of infection. I asked when I arrived if they accepted cards and was told yes, but the additional card fee wasn't mentioned until checkout. That kind of information should be disclosed upfront--especially given that their prices are already on the higher end. I also got acrylic extensions, which were really mediocre. The length was inconsistent (as shown in my pictures), the application was thick, and the finished result looked like I already had them on for a week--she didn't apply the product close to the cuticle line, which left an obvious gap. The total came out to about $180 for a gel pedicure and acrylic manicure, and unfortunately, the quality just didn't match the price. They're charging premium rates for subpar work. (Keep in mind I wouldn't mind the price if it actually looked good and they did not give me a cut on my foot) Definitely won't be returning, and I WOULD NOT recommend this place to others.

However, both of our schedules changed and I only had time on Mondays while she was off. I also recently moved to 165th and northern. One day I was desperate to get my nails done for an upcoming event and I was frantically googling places. I noticed MD Nail Salon was within walking distance and I recall passing by it a few times. I walk in and it's like a lush garden which I automatically loved! Makes it cozy and inviting - looked clean and updated too. I met with Mia and she was very sweet. I am now a consistent customer and Mia very quickly became my go to person. I feel like I've been cheating on my previous manicurist, so I texted her to say it's over and I'm sorry. :( However, you can't beat convenience and Mia does a very good job- super detailed and concise. She's also efficient AND adorable! They also have so many options! Colors, sparkles, diamonds, bows, etc. They might be just SLIGHTLY pricier than my old place but it's still worth it and I keep coming back. There is even a $10 reward every 10 manicures which is appreciated. Mia always listens to what I want and is very patient. I've added some pictures for reference, one idea was stolen from Yelp haha- give them a try and ask for Mia! (Just not on Mondays loll)

They have a ton of stones, pearls and the like that you can have added to your nail design. They are also good with shaping nails and drawing French lines as well. The interior is simply, but beautifully decorated. It is also very clean. Because they do a lot of nail design work, I would not think that it is possible to just walk in; make sure to make an appointment! They will try to accommodate you as best as they can. I also very much appreciate that they don't overbook clients and make people wait despite having an appointment.
