I get to the counter and the woman says it's $38. That means they charged TEN WHOLE DOLLARS to remove the gel polish I had on before. That is the most insane price I've heard of to remove gel. Returned to Julie's to do a girls spa day with my mini me. We needed some pampering and prepping for her big birthday party the next day. I had two appointments booked so we could be side by side for the whole time. We did bring nail stickers from home to add to the colors we picked so I could save some money on designs. Quick mention, I had returned to the spa twice since the downgraded review I left last time. The manager Julie was quick to address my review and knows I'm a regular. She was surprised by that and apologized for the mishaps. Asked that next time I have an issue, I should mention it to her straightaway. She was really nice about it and made me whole on the extras I was charged last time. On this visit, I noticed the new pedicure chairs and even the spa pedicure menu has been updated. There are more options now and there has been an increase on the kids' mani and pedi price. Although, I need to point out, the old signage has not been removed (it still shows the old price of $15). So do ask before you start. Lorena did a fantastic job on my daughter's nails and in adding the nail art (stickers) we brought. Maria was my technician and she was great as well...gives the best foot massages! I do admit I come here often since it's such a close proximity to everything I need. While I am not 100% loyal to any one place as I feel all salon experiences are unique to the technician that services you. I am partial to coming here as it was the first salon that I really enjoyed when I first moved into this neighborhood. And they know me by name...can't beat that! read more

Came here for a pedicure for the first time since I just moved to the area and my favorite/ normal nail salon is in around 25 minutes away. The nail lady that I got cut one of my big toes super short (you can see a red dot (blood) on my nail bed) and my other big toe literally looks like it is going downhill because it is slanted..... She also cut some of my nails very short and when she was filing then she was filing my skin/ actual toe and said that my nails were "too short" ??? so why cut them in the first place?! In the middle of the pedicure she called someone and started to chat with them on the phone while painting my nails. The paint job looked okay. On some toes they looked fine but on other it looked like I had done it myself. Pedicure was $21 and tipped $5. Probably wouldn't come here regularly unless I am in need of a mani/pedi last minute. read more

I come here a lot because it's near me and pricing is ok. The shop is run down and older, nothing high tech but the people here are nice. Nail Polish: Great assortment but the popular colors are definitely "watered" down and thinned out. Pedi's: Annoying thing is their pricing for pedi's and it really depends on who you get. Note: I never make an appointment so I get different people. $17 for regular pedi but if you want your legs to be exfoilated and massaged for 10 mins, you'll have to pay $3-$5 more. Unlike other places, it's a set price and common for you to get your legs exfoilated, foot scrub and mini leg massage. Cindy, Patricia and Maria are the best. They really clean your toes and take care of you. They'll ask what you want too, like if you want to get your legs exfoilated. Joyce is nice too and meticulous but some days she rushes and some days she's better. She never asked me what kind of pedi I've wanted since the beginning. So when I get her she does the basic and nothing extra. But that's my problem, I never asked her what I wanted, lol I get shy. Mani's: Regular is $8. Gel is $30. Powder gel is $35. I HATE that they don't have warm water to soak your nails in while getting a mani. I just hate the feeling when they file your nails and get your nail dust mixed with the cuticle oil. They don't even give you an option to wash your hands after. Idk, that's just me, some people don't care. Yes they wipe your hands down with the warm wet towel but still. Joyce is the only one who did my gel. She's very good at what she does but she's a lil rough. Overrall: It's an average nail salon. If you really want to be pampered, this isn't the place. I come back often bc it's convenient and I honestly love the ppl there. They're very sweet. Is it my favorite place? No, I've been to better ones. But I'm a regular now so I know what I'm expecting. I'm usually satisfied when I come here. Julie did the cutest valentines day look for me, she was able to know exactly what I wanted just from a picture I'd pulled up on the internet. She doesn't rush, takes her time, & does an efficient job. Compared to other nail salons in this area, this js my favorite! I had two people do my nails today. One for manicure (Michelle) And (que) for pedicure. Que automatically told me mani pedi is $25 plus $5 more for the 7 day polish. I said okay. But when I sat in the chair, I saw a sign for the lowest price of $20. I asked why didn't you tell me that price? She then says that she was showing me but i agreed to $25 which included the shaving of foot... she didn't show me that at all. But the pedicure was good. Michelle cut my nails so nice BUT THEN when it came to polish she was in a rush. The place was completely empty so I don't know why she was rushing with polish. I wasn't going to tip but Michelle came as my nails were drying and told me to stay longer and put oil on my toe nails and wrapped it. I will never come here again. I will not recommend it. I think Julie Nails deserves four stars (in comparison to other nail salons in the Bayside/Douglaston/Little Neck area). My mom comes here all the time before a big trip or event (otherwise she is capable of doing her own nails). I've tagged along a few times and I was never disappointed. This salon is larger than the others in the vicinity. One side of the wall is lined with manicure stations, and opposite that wall is a row of pedicure seats. In between you will find two rows of drying stations. I haven't been in the back area but I think this is where the massage/wax rooms and bathroom are. I've seen about ten employees work at a time (a mix of middle aged Korean and Latin ladies) but on my visit one Sunday evening, there were about 5 working. Like many nail salons, the loyal customers have built a long lasting relationship with the staff. The room is usually filled with chit chat between customers and staff or just among staff. My mom always requests for Joyce because apparently she applies the best thin coat of manicure (to prevent chipping). I've worked with Michelle and I think she's great (detail oriented) and super friendly. We always call ahead to make a reservation or to check in on how busy they are. I've never waited more than 10 minutes. Based on the yelp reviews, one would expect to see many men here getting their nails did ;) I have seen a few guys here, which made it easier to convince my bf to try it out. I treated him with a mani and pedi (his very first one) and he enjoyed it very much! Julie Nails offers several pedi packages to customize for your needs - the more junk you have on your feet, the more you have to pay to clean! [there was an old man sitting next to us with really nasty nasty feet. He also rudely demanded that they put his socks on for him. I watched as Michelle unrolled his socks inside out and put it on for him. His feet needed the ultimate pedi package but I think he went with the cheapest possible] I think they have a Monday - Wednesday special: mani+pedi for $20 or $25? I don't remember. My only con is that there is not a large selection of nail polish but this won't keep me from returning. read more

This was a disaster of a visit. I went in for a pedicure and a powder gel removal. A pedicure costs $12. A powder gel removal costs $5. The owner, Julie asked, "do you want a manicure?" I said, "No. I will have to come back another day for a powder gel manicure." She proceeded to act as though she was doing the removal and instead gave me a manicure anyway. She did this simply because she was annoyed I wasn't getting the powder gel manicure right at that moment. She charged me $30 to include a manicure I specifically made clear I did not want. She could have said, "My apologies. We only do removals when we do manicures as well." Or, she could have an accurate listing on the wall for removals that says "We only do removals when we do manicures." She proceeded to start yelling at me for thinking I could simply get a powder gel removal. Over and over, she screamed, "We always do this manicure with removal. We always do this!!! Oh my God! Oh my God!! We always do this!" It was as though I had her business operation memorized when I haven't been to her nail salon since 2012. Now, I was immediately reminded why I stopped going here in the first place. Her attitude is extremely nasty and I do not want my money going to her or this business. It is a shame because the workers are loyal and kind. It is sad that the ownership changed. I GO TO OSCAR NAILS ON FRANCIS LEWIS BOULEVARD AND PAY $10 LESS EVERY SINGLE TIME. $5 less per powder gel manicure. $5 less per pedicure. AT OSCAR NAILS - $12 pedicure. Today I got the worst pedicure from this place. They were empty, which should have been a sign that something was wrong but I just wanted a pedicure with no polish. I was seated and as the woman who did my pedicure stuck my feet into the tub of hot water, she asked me if it was hot and when I replied yes she still kept the water the same temperature. I asked her to cut my toenails and let me tell you she cut them so short it annoys me to wear my socks now. The woman who gave me my pedicure proceeded to dig at my big toe to the point that I pulled my foot away. The worst part is that she kept touching it even though it hurt and it was bleeding. Randomly stopped here since I had to make a stop at the UPS store. It's a large and clean looking nail salon. It was empty, so no wait for me. I like that eat section has the name of the person, as well as everyone has a name tag. The wall was full of colors, but at closer looking, most of the polishes looked old. I'm guessing most places are like that since I feel now a days most people are I to gel manicures. I had a hard time picking a color since many were dried out. I sat down for my manicure, and the woman was very nice, but I has this fear since my nails were long that she was going to cut me, and she almost did. When I commented "ouch" she looked and just kept going. She didn't break skin, but I felt it, and feel like she could have at least apologized for it. The manicure was ok, a little rough for my preference. It was strange because she was rough with the prep, and felt nothing with the hand massage. She switched brushes when polishing my nails, and there was glitter on the brush, so now I have glitter under my polish. Not loving the bumpy look, but my nails have lasted a day longer than usual. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if in the area, it's worth a try. I would definitely be more vocal next time. read more

This place is where I go with my mom and sis... We have our fav ppl that we go to. The place is clean, nice, friendly staff, and very accommodating. I bring my own color since i am so particular. Prices are in line for the area, the place never feels overcrowded even when busy. Apts are usually on time or within 5 min unless you are late... I'm new to the area and have tried quite a few of the local salons, and this is the place I keep going back to. Consistently a quality mani/pedi that lasts, no chipping even a week on for my last 3 manicures. I usually go early afternoons on a weekday, and despite always calling to make an appointment, it's obvious when I get there that I didn't have to. I think because they aren't terribly busy at these times, they offer to do the mani/pedi at the same time which I greatly appreciate. The price is right too! I always upgrade to one of the nicer pedicures (#4 which includes a 15 minute foot massage) and it's always $40 total (also because of M-W special). Sure, the facilities aren't the newest (but the massage pedicure chairs are good!) and they could have a better polish selection, but I'm very happy here.... read more

As someone who lived on the upper east side in Manhattan for 4 years, I idolized my nail girl and have spent the past 6 months trying to find a place to replicate my experience in the past. My nail tech (I believe her name was Patricia?) was thorough and used all of the same techniques my old nail tech used to. Her expertise and delicate care allowed me to feel utterly relaxed while getting my manicure pedicure (which last 2 weeks may i add) I highly recommend this place and will be making this my new regular spot :o) read more

Ok so I've been here once before and it was great. Pedicure was amazing everything done professionally. The manicure was ok. So I told one of my girlfriends to come with me yesterday for another mani pedi experience. Well it's probably the last time I go there. My pedicure experience was still better than my manicure experience. For the pedicure note that I don't have rough or dry feet because I take care of them often. So I don't require a hard scrub. However, they scrubbed my feet, it wasn't hard and painful but made my feet worse than when I went in. My feet bottom were so rough n you could see the grate marks. But at least the painting of my toe nails were proper. My manicure on the other hand went horrible. First I got the vinylux which is supposed to last a week guaranteed with no chip. Seemed pretty good for regular nail polish. So I tried it. It was only $5 more. However I wanted my ring finger to have a different color. Now since I wanted two colors they charged me an additional $10. I was like I only have 10 fingers where did the additional $5 come from. They say the price is per nail polish not per mani. Wish someone would've mentioned that before. Then she (Maria) didn't even dial my fingers for prepping the cuticles to be cut. So it was a bit more painful n not a smooth clean cut. She was also bad with painting my nails. She thought she was done n there were streak marks n places where u could see the brush dabs. I told her to add additional coats to these fingers. I mean you are already charging me extra. At least do a decent job. I was so upset leaving there. Even my boyfriend could spot the disasters on my nails. My friend didn't have a nice paint job done either. She had a French acrylic tip done by the owner Julie. The shape was so weird and looked more done at home. I live near the neighborhood so I finally gave it a try hoping I'd love it here so I'd become a regular customer. The place itself is quite cozy and spacious. However, when I got my pedi, the woman cut my cuticle. She didn't even apologize for hurting me. Plus, compared to other nail salons I went to, this place seems to not be that clean. Being a clean freak, I expected for them to clean the pedi machine after each customer. However they didn't. So I was pretty disgusted and worried I would get an infection since I had an open wound too. For my mani, it was okay... my second fingers nail was shorter than the rest so she used fake nails to replace it but she didn't match the nail shape with my other fingers so my left hand looks awkward since my fake nail looks wider and bigger than the rest of my fingers. Other than that, the service was a one star. Nobody greets you when you walk except the boss. And when you walk out nobody says thank you. It wasn't that busy that day either. read more

This one star rating is not for Julie Nails but for Lorena one of her employees. I have been going to this nail salon for the past 10 years and have never had a problem with Lorena. My visit 3 weeks ago was a nightmare with her. She was nasty and obnoxious for no reason. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she was having a bad day. So today I requested to see her to give her another chance and she totally ignored me. She made the water burning hot then freezing cold. She didn't say one word to me the whole time she gave me the pedicure. She always asks about my grandchildren and how I'm feeling but today she didn't even look at me. I told her what I thought of her and she denied everything. I spoke to Julie and told her what she did and Lorena lied and said I was on the phone, that was why she didn't talk to me. I was on the phone for one minute. I will never see her again. She didn't deserve a tip and I'm sorry I gave her one. I will use Cindy, who is very pleasant and nice. I have visited Julie nails plenty of times and have loved it. It depends on who you get to do your nails. I visited the salon with my friend and was disappointed. The lady who did my nails rushed and did not give me any time to relax and enjoy my mani pedi. No one was even waiting so I do not understand why she rushed. It was not closing time either. My pedicure was poor, and she did not paint all of my big toe. She missed the top. My friend was hurt by the other lady and felt she was not gentle with her feet.
