Service was incredibly slow. Waited in the drive thru for more than twenty minutes. Sorely tempted to drive off.

I go here every chance I get, and usually forget to take photos of the delicious food!…read more I am so glad i took the advice of the earlier reviews to entice me to try it out the first time (now years ago). This place has been a hit with my "21+" family due to the great food, great location, and usually good service. Minors are not allowed. Our most recent visit yesterday had less than awesome service but maybe she was having a bad day. The building is old with lots of wood paneling ... very comfy. There are several other wonderful restaurants in Fortville which is great for me as I have several choices. I never would have guessed that this tiny suburb would have such epic cuisine!

I love the small town feel!! The restaurant vibe reflects the town. Everyone is very welcoming. I didn't catch bartenders name, but she was very friendly to everyone at her bar. She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. I could easily become a regular there!!

I got iced tea and it wasn't the best or the worst, I'd probably get a Coke next time. I saw them bringing out a lot of wraps to the party they were serving and since it was like 107 degrees with the heat index Mom and I decided to get the fried chicken bacon ranch wrap with onion rings. They claimed on the menu the chicken was hand breaded but I'm not sure about that. The wrap was huge and also 95% lettuce which was obviously from a bag and had a funny bagged lettuce taste. There was the smallest sprinkling of cheese, bacon and tiny chicken tender pieces. They didn't put much ranch on the wrap so that made it dryer. Luckily we asked for extra when we ordered because we like to dip our onion rings in ranch too. We really liked the onion rings. I would have said something about the wraps but our server had that large party so we didn't see her again until the end of our meal. The view was beautiful and they do offer cocktails. They have a nice outdoor covered patio with ceiling fans but Mom said it was too hot even with the fans and since she's nearly 84 I wanted her to be comfortable. We will definitely go back again but I will try something different or leave off the lettuce if I do get a wrap.

On a recent trip down I-69 it was lunch time and we wanted to eat somewhere out of the ordinary,…read morewhich led us to a not-entirely-unsubstantial drive off the expressway to Steak City Fish & Chicken....a name that confuses. It's called Steak City, but it has Fish and Chicken (please don't tell me I'm not the only one who was initially confused by this). On our way there we speculated about what kind of place we were driving to, completely not expecting what we ended up at. The website for Steak City Fish & Chicken is far more polished than the establishment itself. By the website and from photos online it appeared to be a brightly colored place with an awning out front. It's not like that at all now. It appears to be something that used to be a convenience store with a drive up window, which in a fashion is what it is now, but the awning has since been replaced with an add-on entry way and the entirety of the exterior is a dull, dingy grey. The interior is half convenience store, half take-out kitchen. Above the counter is the two-panel menu. (photos included in review). There are A LOT of offerings, from burgers to nachos, tacos, wings, and fish, chicken & shrimp in a variety of combos. By default all meals come with fries (which you can opt out of for a reduced price). My wife and I both missed this when we ordered (not a big deal, actually). Each line item is also accompanied by a 'cooking fee' which varies from 50¢ to $3.00. Not really sure what that's about, but I'm guessing it's a way to kind of build in a tip, since there is no option to tip that I saw when paying. My wife ordered wings and I ordered chicken tacos. Since there are no seats we decided to peruse the convenience store area while we waited for our food. There is no beverage station, so any drink will have to come in can/bottle form from the coolers. The service process was easy and, in fact, as minimal as possible. "What would you like to order?" "That'll be $xx.xx". That was it. There are a number of coolers with mostly soft drinks, and quite a few not-entirely-stocked shelves with various non-perishables. We weren't surprised to see more than a few of the items well past their sell-by date. About 12 minutes later and our food was ready. I grabbed a bottle of Faygo® out of a cooler and we went outside to eat in our car. There is not seating area outside, either. At the end of the day, the food was AWESOME. My chicken tacos were very tasty, and my wife LOVED the wings. This is an odd/interesting place. The food was great, but the service and the establishment could use a little upkeep.

I personally enjoyed a favorite of mine, a buffalo chicken wrap which was full of delicious flavors and ingredients. I ordered a 4 spicy wing meal with Mac n cheese and potato wedges to go. You go to the dining room area to wait for your food from a pick up window. You can see everything in the kitchen area through that window. Several staff members in the kitchen none of them wearing any gloves and all were handling the food with their bare hands. Best I could tell the only thing not touched by bare human hands was the Mac and cheese. The middle aged lady who ended up handing me my food touched all my wedges with her bare hands then proceeded to pick up my chicken wings and started plucking the pin feathers off the wings and then putting it back in the to go box. Needless to say that entire meal went in the trash when I got home. They also should be ashamed selling tiny pecan pies for $3 They are in my fridge so I can't speak to how they taste but at least they were prepackaged so I know that nobody touched them with their bare hands. These things probably happen more often than I care to imagine but If you are going to have a window where people can watch you in the kitchen then it's probably a good idea to wear gloves and use safe food handling practices.

When I tried order off the menu to see if I could get a trout and steak combo, my server tried very hard to make this happen, but gave up. She could have asked a manager, but it was not important enough for me to pursue the matter. But, she was very sweet and was very helprul the rest of the time. Pittsburgh Rare steak preparation involves charring the exterior on a very hot flat-top and serving it rare. What I got was not this, as I could immediately tell by the fact that it had noticeable grill marks. They just cooked as usual for a rare order. With a NY Strip steak, you expect some connective tissue, but not this much. It was hidden also in the muscle of the steak. I had trouble hiding all the half chewed offal on my plate. Neither did it have a great beef flavor. This summary from the internet agrees with my idea of rice pilaf, "Pilaf is a rice dish where grains are toasted in oil or butter with aromatics like onion and garlic before being simmered in seasoned broth, resulting in fluffy, separate grains." What I was served was nothing like this as I got buttered rice that clumped together. No effort was employed in plating for appearance. I got a steak on a plate and a silver colored boat on which the rice was piled. The Cole slaw served as a salad was very good. The beer was cold and as expected.
