However, IMO, everything was overpriced. Seriously, about $9 for maybe a pound of potato salad or slaw or beans and $34 a pound for the meat. Yes, I'm aware of yield... and that the price of beef has risen a lot. Whatever the market will bear, I guess, but this isn't something I'd do on a regular basis.

The sliced dill pickles were also excellent. Loved their potato salad which was creamy, just salty enough for our palate and had with a good balance of textures. The green spaghetti was a pleasant surprise too as the creamy poblano sauce had a hint of heat and could have been a meal in itself given how rich it tasted. Next time we visit, we will definitely come before they open on a Friday so that we can try everything!

Instead of complaining about how long it took and OH MY GOSH HOW DARE THEY MAKE ME WAIT, I have to give them credit. Though the 3 people working were slammed, they were churning out orders quickly and efficiently, fighting off the rush one drink at a time. It took about 20ish minutes to get my coffee, but after getting my hot lavender latte with oat milk, it was worth the wait. It was a very quality cup, and it was just what I needed to start my day. The shop is super narrow, but super cute and stylish. The roadrunner LED on the wall really added to the shop's character. Next time I'm in Lockhart, I'll go out of my way to get back to Chaparral. The glazed carrots had a light maple taste that paired really well with the dish. The temperature in the restaurant was perfect, which made the whole experience even more comfortable. Service was spot on too--Anna took great care of us and was incredibly patient as we shared stories and even offered a few decor suggestions. She was attentive without being overbearing. The music was great and set at just the right volume, which made it easy to relax, enjoy the meal and hear the conversation. That said, the decor could use a bit of improvement. No offense to the artist, but the prints felt a little odd and too small for the wall space. The overall layout of the restaurant could also be better--it didn't feel as cohesive as the food and service deserved. Also, the hardwood seats could use some padding for both the back and bottom to make longer visits more comfortable. Ordered a couple of different breakfast with lots of items so we could try them all. Standouts were the pancakes. They just need real Maple syrup and they would be fantastic! (Hint- I'll pay extra for real maple syrup). Grits were very good. Sausage and home fried potato's were good. Scrambled Eggs were ok, a bit overdone for me. She like the country style ham. Biscuits and sausage gravy were ok... Needed more sausage, more spice. I'd go back for sure.
