It was just ok for my littles. There was a groupon offer for $12.75 (regular $15 admission pp) so I took advantage. There's not a lot of guidance here so if your kids aren't self starters they may find themselves bored. Even when entering each room no one is guiding you on what the activity is and how to participate. Instead you're kid just does there on thing. Neither bad nor good just an observation. Outside of that there are 4 areas that are pretty intuitive. Making a beat - where kids can add layers to music to create new sounds. Circuit activity - create a pathway by connecting wrenches which turn on a light. - my son (8) thoroughly enjoyed this. Tipsy table - using 3 different pulleys you could guide balls into different outputs. This requires at least 2-3 people. Light play - using lasers to make imprints on moving disks. I could see myself coming back for more purposeful play but free play I wouldn't bother. read more

Great place for ages 4+ for arts and craft/ STEM activities. My 7 year old niece loved it! The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Really fun place for ages 5+. We took the kids here on a weekend. They're only open to the public on the weekends. My kids spent a lot of time learning about circuits and cross-stitching. We would've stayed longer but needed to go eat. Will try again some other time. They also do camps for summer and winter. Educational and engaging space. read more

The exterior of this museum is nondescript, after all, it's a library. We were prepared to be underwhelmed. Admission is $8.00 whether you are 2 or 50. We later realized that the admission cost was a bargain. The room is set up with stations on tables: animation, creative coding, circuitry & more. We received individual guidance from the high school to college age guides. My kid stayed more than 4 hours & she wants to return. They have special workshops for an extra fee. There is also a rudimentary "museum store" with snacks & a few kits. (We bought a drawbot kit that we immediately used.) This place earned 5 stars for our family without all the slick bells & whistles you would expect to see in a kids museum. read more

First time coming here was for a play date. Myself and the other parent were able to sit and catch up while our children explored the different stations of museum. There is so much to do and we really LOVE that it's educational. This past weekend my son and I decided to attend one of the sponsored events, Japanese Children's Day. All the staff were patient with the children, very clear and helpful with instructions and also taught different fun facts about this holiday. When you walk in, the receptionist may or may not inform you that this is geared for ages 6 to... 12? My 4 year old had a pretty good time and we plan on going again and again! read more

I feel like the name is a little misleading...this isn't actually a museum, but an activity center with stations for all sorts of hands-on STEM learning. I went with three kids - 11, 8 and 4 - and they all loved it and were engaged by various play options. Parents don't have to do anything at all - the KID Museum has supervision at almost every station and the staff can help your kids figure out their activity. It's a great place to take kids for an afternoon. read more

My first grader loves their homeschool program, and I consider it a bargain for the type of activities they do. At first the facility does seem underwhelming - it is in the basement of a library and it has a rather "made from scraps" vibe. After participating in some of their workshops, I am convinced that the "made from scraps" aspect is brilliant. The first workshop we attended was about making musical instruments from scraps - pieces of lumber, weedwhacker cord scraps, bits of PVC plumbing, and such. The kids were guided and supervised in using things like drills and screwdrivers, and they had a great time. The second workshop we attended included building things to fly in a wind tube, playing with little electric motors, and what amounted to a homemade SnapCircuit-type set-up. Again, the kids had a blast. The staff does a great job of managing and supervising groups of kids and my son is *always* excited on Kid Museum day. read more

Excellent place - my 4th grader has taken several workshops here and is now doing camp - he is a picky customer and he loves it so i am happy : ) Airy light filled space full of interesting opportunities and explorations - a wood shop, 3d printer, wind tunnels, even a sewing machine. I was incredibly impressed by this education play space for elementary school kids. My kindergarten and 4th grade kids were both equally enthralled for 2.5 hours. They would have gladly stayed longer. The museum is more of an activity space that anything else. It was born out of the "maker" movement - and is related to STEM (science-technology-engineering-mathematics) for kids. The museum teaches kids about science and technology in interesting, hands-on, ways. The stations change every season, but when we went, there was a station where you made a little drawing robot out of a cup, markers, a battery, 2 cables, and a small motor. There were two stations to make objects that fly in the air (and wind tubes to test them in.) There was a digital photo station and an animation station. There was one for synthesized music. There was one involving computer programming, and another with a projector. There is a permanent 3-D printer room and a wood shop room. There's a party room, too. My 9 year old daughter took a soldering class where she got to use REAL tools to make a pencil that emits sound when she draws with it. She was so impressed that she got to use a solder iron herself. She immediately asked to come back, as did my invention-loving kindergarten son. Right now, the class schedule is only a week or two in advance, but they plan to improve that in the future. The museum has only been open for a few months. It's in the basement of the Davis Library, and it's only open on weekend. Check out the weekly updates on the Events tab of their website. read more

NOT autism friendly. The kid museum sounded so great from the reviews that we decided to try it with our 6 year old autistic son. Bad idea. The space is very large with about 9 tables with different projects on each table. It makes for a loud, distracting, and overwhelming space. First he was frustrated with a project he couldn't put together because all the pieces were bent and cracked so they wouldn't fit together properly. Next he went to try the table with circuits but was put off because the employee at that table ignored him. Then we went to the coding table where the employee insisted that he could do the coding even though it requires reading and he doesn't read yet. She just kept talking at him while I watched him completely withdraw and shutdown. There was one small quiet room with no activities in and I took him in there and closed the door. When I finally got him to talk to me he said he wanted to leave and never comeback. I explained the situation to the employee at the desk and requested a refund. She denied the request on the basis that he had already been "playing" for 20 minutes. I requested that the supervisor contact me and I never heard back. I was disappointed most with their lack of understanding and accommodation for children with special needs. read more

I took my almost 4 year old son and 9 year old daughter to visit this place. When we first walked in I was very concerned that my son would be bored and mostly entertained by the blocks and legos which he already has at home. and rarely bothers with. If you take a younger child there, don't be intimidated by what seems like a lot of technical stuff going on at each station. I simply placed him at each station and asked the young people/guides to assist him with whatever they were doing. With help he was able to make and use a drawbot. He throughly enjoyed sending things through the wind tunnel and hammering nails into the pinball machine type thing. In the textile room we met up with my nine year old who was making a felt panda. The young lady working there was extremely helpful in making him a felt spiderman mask...well she basically made it for him. It was very realistic and he loved it. In general the young people were pleasant and helpful, although one or two could use more training on how to properly explain things. My nine year old was well entertained. We ended up staying about three hours. It was a worthwhile visit, we drove all the way from Baltimore and we would return. I took off two points for two reasons. I do not think adults should have to pay to enter, Secondly, if you are charging people then please have adequate supplies available to make whatever it is you are making. It is not acceptable that you should run out of popsicle sticks and tape. That was really annoying. There should be an abundance of these items available. read more

I'm going to be perfectly honest. There are only two things good about this place: 1)the price - most of time, the cost for classes is just the entrance fee; and 2) its potential, which it does NOT live up to. They use kids (teenagers) to run the various sections, which wouldn't be bad, if these teenagers had the confidence and initiative to run the stations well. The "instructors" are usually late and the people in charge (I'm not sure there ever is anyone) don't have the organizational know how to keep up with what people are registered where or how to set things up for their really cool sounding, free classes. Each time I've gone to this museum, I've been less impressed. I won't be returning. Do NOT waste your money on camps here as I can't imagine them being any better than their "classes" - for the price you can get much better camps at the local community colleges. The potential is there to make this a great place and I do enjoy seeing their various booths at different festivities, however, they really lack any organizational skills to make this a worthwhile investment of your time. If your kids are REALLY young (6 and under), it may be worth letting them run amok here, but for any real skill or learning experience, you get what you pay for. Don't be enticed by their "free" clinics - they aren't well run and the kids will NOT learn a thing. read more
