Our pottery class was on March 29th, we came back to paint on April 12th, and then picked everything up on April 17th. It honestly felt like such a fun extended experience getting to come back and see everything through. The painting portion was super enjoyable too. They offer a variety of glazes, some classic colors included at no extra cost, plus a few specialty options for a small fee. My fiancé chose the "Safari" glaze (just $1 extra), which had these cool glass pieces that melt in the kiln and create such a unique pattern. Definitely worth trying if you want something a little different! Pickup was easy overall. My only small suggestion would be to clarify the pickup hours on the card that's handed out after painting. Google hours seem to reflect member hours, while the hours posted on the door are different. When I arrived, they technically weren't open yet (my mistake, I'm sorry!), but the person at the front desk was super kind and still helped me find my pieces, which I greatly appreciated. I started my Taekwondo journey in ITF. I've practiced martial arts for years, especially Taekwondo,…read morebut I never earned my black belt. I was a competitor, and that was my focus. I trained to compete, not to earn belts. As I've gotten older, I'm not old enough to complain, but let's just say I know my body a lot better now. I always thought I knew a lot about Taekwondo because of how long I had trained, but my journey has taught me how much there is still to learn. My first major change came with Master J of Tiger J Kim in Houston. (Non Kukkiwon school) I have tremendous respect for him. He helped me transition from ITF to WT and, more importantly, helped me get my life together. Here is where I also restarted my belts. He used Taekwondo as a platform to change lives. He would tell me to show up, train, and then talk to me like a mentor while reinforcing the principles and tenets of martial arts. He talked to me like a kid sometimes, but honestly, it was something I desperately needed at the time. Because of him, I developed a completely different approach to martial arts, became happier, and even grew closer to my faith, despite that never being his intention. I never earned my black belt under Master J due to military order, but looking back, I believe God had better plans. After nine months of military training, I moved from Houston to Everett and wanted to get back into Taekwondo. I had already started my transition from ITF to WT with Master J, so I wanted to continue learning WT. I stumbled across Y.S. Lee Taekwondo without doing much research, something just felt right. I have no regrets about contacting this school. Master Lee has shown me just how much I didn't know. I've trained at enough schools to develop a good sense of what makes a school genuine. I've seen schools become too profit-driven, and I've seen others that feel more like short term daycare or simply focus on teaching techniques and moving students through belts. I believe that if you do what is right and genuinely focus on helping people, everything else follows. Master Lee seems to understand that better than any instructor I've encountered and share the same philosophical approach, some in which came from when I was under Master J. Other masters may show you how to do something and hand out belts. Master Lee goes further and DEMONSTRATES the why and makes sure the students are ready to move up. He has opened my eyes to the history, reasons, deeper philosophy, and tradition behind TKD and the form movements. It's so much more than a performance or learning how to kick/punch. Master Lee taught me that there are centuries of tradition, discipline, and study behind day to day practice. I always ask questions outside of the class when I didn't understand or I wanted to challenge my understanding. Master Lee encourages it more than any Master I've seen. He encourages questions, builds on curiosity, and doesn't just demonstrate what I know. He demonstrates what I don't understand. That is the difference! Like Master J, he sees Taekwondo as a way of life and a tool for improving the person, not just the martial artist. I believe when you teach this way, Self-defense becomes a byproduct of that process and it truly does, but you must put in the work for your studies. I'm now working toward the black belt I never got when I was younger, and I'm grateful that I didn't because now I have the opportunity to pursue it under through a Kukkiwon-recognized school with YS Lee. I have lots of respect for Master J for helping me on this path, and I'm equally grateful that life brought me here to continue it. If you're looking for someone who will simply teach you how to kick, punch, do forms, earn belts, there are plenty of options. If you want an instructor who will challenge what you think you know, teach the history and philosophy behind TKD, encourage your questions, and help you become a better martial artist and person, I highly recommend Master Lee and Y.S. Lee Taekwondo. My very long (lost count after 5 years) black belt journey brought me here.

5th grade camp was a hit! From the moment of bus drop offs to bus pick ups, Cedar Springs had every…read moreminute accounted for and planned out. Their system of organization and scheduling of daily events was impressive. Staff was incredibly gracious, especially while containing a hundred 10 year old boys and girls. Daily routine began with reveille at 0700 hours and ended at 10p with lights out. Survival classes were informative and included sessions like fire building, archery, stream studies, rock climbing, and forestry to name a few. Breakfast, lunch, and dinners were definitely elevated from a 'camp' menu with dishes like pork tenderloin, brisket, hot breakfasts, 24/7 coffee and tea for chaperones, side salads and dessert with every meal. I. Was. Im. PRESSED. They flip schools midweek, so if you're there from Wed-Fri, the previous school will be wrapping up lunch as you arrive and they depart. Schools never crossed paths and the transition was seamless. The cabins were 4 groups of 3 bunks with extra cots if needed. Working heaters and windows on every wall to air out during the day (highly recommended). It def got humid at night in the fall. Bathroom rotations were 10 mins per cabin which sounded like an impossible amount of time but worked out well. There were 11 showers in the main restroom with one being ADA accessible. 3 separate showers in the shared chaperone and employee restroom (which only had one working toilet). I preferred the main restroom but used it after lights out for my showers. No problems running out of stalls or showers. The bunks were rough for chaperone bones... wish I had brought extra padding to ease the sleepless nights after long days of trail walking, back to back events from 7a-9p, and dealing with a ton of 5th graders for 3 days straight! The bottomless coffee and tea helped keep us all upright! Overall, impressive meals, even more impressive staff, and impeccable scheduling!

Class sizes are small, so our daughter gets plenty of individual attention and guidance while still enjoying a fun group atmosphere with other young artists. She comes home after each class proud of what she's created, using real art materials and techniques that make her feel like a "real artist." Over time, we've watched her confidence grow right along with her skills, from learning new mediums to experimenting with color, shading, and detail in ways she never would have tried on her own. She looks forward to every class, and we love seeing how much joy and calm art brings her at the start of a busy week. Upon checking in, I was told by a viscerally nasty older woman (severe gray haircut) that my membership expired Dec 31st. It's February 9th. Ok, I'll make a call and handle this. But then this vicious entity refuses to give me my Silver & Fit ID Number because it was no longer valid. She berated me for having picked up a slip of paper off the counter to jot the number down. The number she refused to give me " If you had wanted a piece of scratch paper, I would have given you one. If you had asked! That's an enrollment card'!!" I left a message for a membership director to give me a call. This evening at 8:30, Tanya calls, and attempts to apologize for the front desk clerk. Tanya 'doesn't know' who was working the front desk today. Tanya does provide the expired ID number, which I can use as reference with my health insurance. Puhleeze! No. No thanks. I never will step foot in that legitimately hostile environment again. BTW, I am a person of color.
