Really negative experience with irrational and rude front desk clerk today at 3:30pm. I will no longer go here. Upon checking in, I was told by a viscerally nasty older woman (severe gray haircut) that my membership expired Dec 31st. It's February 9th. Ok, I'll make a call and handle this. But then this vicious entity refuses to give me my Silver & Fit ID Number because it was no longer valid. She berated me for having picked up a slip of paper off the counter to jot the number down. The number she refused to give me " If you had wanted a piece of scratch paper, I would have given you one. If you had asked! That's an enrollment card'!!" I left a message for a membership director to give me a call. This evening at 8:30, Tanya calls, and attempts to apologize for the front desk clerk. Tanya 'doesn't know' who was working the front desk today. Tanya does provide the expired ID number, which I can use as reference with my health insurance. Puhleeze! No. No thanks. I never will step foot in that legitimately hostile environment again. BTW, I am a person of color. read more

walked in per usual, never had a bad experience until today. My mother in law had put me and my sister in law on her membership so that we were able to work out as well. Going in today. We were stopped and told that my sister in law had to become registered, even though it was never a worry before. We complied and did everything they asked, but the entire time, they mean mugged us and were quit snooty with their attitudes. They then told us, we could only go 3 times a year, even though we're registered. Never again will I go here. The lady's at the desk were Sally and some other blonde lady. Do not go here. read more

Such a wonderful place! At the front desk, Sandy will start your visit with a huge smile. Everything is perfectly clean, the air is fresh, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I'm sick of the uptight and tense atmosphere that I find in most gyms. This space is the perfect remedy! I'm especially looking forward to learning to swim with their instructors, and to practice tai chi in the open rooms. So fun! read more

I recently joined the Y and I really enjoy working out here. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming. The facility is very clean and they have a variety of great workout equipment. I like that they have a variety of workout classes, I have enjoyed Zumba with Stephanie. As a member they also offer free sports to kiddos 4 and under, to me that is a great way to try new sports without breaking the bank. I do wish this location was open later, as they close at 8 due to being short staffed, but the hours will change as headcount increases. Overall, a great place to workout by yourself or with your family. read more

i literally only made a Yelp to review this spot. I have never been treated so kindly, with such empathy and common respect in a place ever. I just got out of a DV shelter with my toddler, we wanted a place to go have fun. We got onto the low income program, and when it lapsed there was a mistake of not catching it in time but Tania took care of all my needs, didn't judge me for needing low income help, and treated me like a HUMAN! i can't tell you how many times I have been talked down to because of my situation. She made me feel safe when I haven't in awhile, and gave me & my child a place to go for fun again. THANK YOU TANIA!!! read more

I'm not a member here and don't live in Monroe but if I did I'd sign my family up in a heartbeat! This is the start location for a Volkssport walk and often the employees at a start location have no idea what I'm talking about when I ask for the Walk Box. The young woman I asked knew exactly what I wanted and where it was. The staff were all friendly and the entry area was immaculate and inviting. I could see the pool thru the window and while there were families playing it was by no means crowded. If you're looking for a new place to work out and teach your family healthy habits you should give this place a try. read more

We love it here. We actually first came for the open house and fell in love with all they had to offer. My toddler son and I try to come at least once a week to swim. He also loves the Kids Zone. We also like the Parent & Me STEM kids class! It's a great experience. If you're on the fence, definitely get a guest pass and come visit! read more

The YMCA is great if you have young children whom you want enrolled in programs and/or want to swim. Personally, I tried two times having a memebership, but it is not for me. The cardio/weight room is highly overcrowded and generally my daughter and I have to wait for a cardio machine. There are kids running around the whole place and they aren't taking things seriously. If you're looking for a serious work out, go somewhere else. If you want a place for your kids and family to play, join. read more

Way over priced if you don't utilize the pool! The basketball court is too small for games, and there is not nearly enough gym equipment to satisfy. The staff is great, however, and this why they get 3 stars. If their pricing was below $30 it would be okay, but than again they need to up their game on the equipment. read more

This is the best childcare money can buy! My daughter goes to the onsite care at her school and the summer camp (in the summer of course). The teachers are well educated and super nice. They really promote self sufficiency in children and good self esteem. My daughter has really blossomed since she has been here. It has been a really great experiance for her. read more

I've been a member for a couple of weeks now and love the YMCA, Monroe!!! It has helped me to make huge changes to my life and health!! I attend the Silver Sneakers pool class, also the exercise class too! (The lovely older men and women kicked my butt lol!!) Having had most joints replaced or fused, and recent back surgery it's exactly what I need. I also use the gym frequently so I can keep up my physical therapy. I have made lots of new friends, and the staff is helpful and welcoming. The facilities are clean and plentiful, including clean showers with free soap, shampoo and conditioner, a soothing hot spa, sauna, as well as plentiful lockers and parking, gym, basketball and rackett ball courts,and exercise room. For those with kiddies, the daycare seems adequate. There are plenty of classes, and even outtings I highly recommend to anyone wanting to make changes in their lives. read more

Masses of screaming, fast moving spawn from bitchy soccer moms. Unless you have a serious love of undisciplined children and their parents, do not join this gym. Classes are ok, facility is clean and well maintained. It is run by a group of passive aggressive women who make women in management look like idiots. Billing is a horror show, we were overcharged for years and didn't know it, when it was brought to the attention of management it was passed around like a hot potato and dismissed. Also the month free if you refer a friend, nope, doesn't happen. But they come to you with their hands out several times a year. Tri Club is a joke, no club, no training, no classes. The trainers overall are inexperienced and disinterested. No leadership in this place at all. This place is set up for families, which is great. If that's what you need. If you just want a place to work out without lots of hand wringing and "it's for the children" b.s., then skip it. read more

huge sized parking lot but you'd be surprised how quick this little gym's big parking lot can fill up. Price is affordable. Staff is friendly and tries to accommodate requests. There is a day care area. So it seems lots of families are regulars here. The indoor pool with a slide is small. Usually only 1-2 lanes available. Kids swim lessons are offered and the pool hosts the high school swim team practice. SO if you are a lap swimmer you might have trouble finding a lane for yourself. For us swimmers that is the big draw back about this gym. The basketball and racquet ball court is AWESOME. read more

I am at the Monroe Y multiple times per week, between being a US masters swimmer, using the cardio/weight room, and my kids' swim lessons. I will first off say that I love working out here. It's become a bit like a second home -- I gravitate to locker #77 after my birth year. Having the masters program is so wonderful, because I've met new friends, taken on new athletic goals, and the Monroe masters women WON our latest meet which made me feel proud of my local team/Y. The masters coaches are great to work with. I also really appreciate the hours -- open at 4:30am!! In a town of o'dark thirty risers, this is perfect. And the new expanded 8am Saturday opening is super helpful for those of us who like to get going early on weekends, too. The programs that the Y offers, such as the 8,000 calorie blast and fun runs, are really appreciated. Finally, the child care room is great. It allows me to work out and my kids to meet up with friends, which is a win-win for everyone. My only complaints have to do with the swim instruction -- it has gotten better, but for quite some time, it seemed like the kids weren't being managed well and just weren't building their skills. It's still not the most impressive swim instruction I've seen, but as I said it's gotten better. I also would like to see slightly less "down time" for the pool, such as when the heater breaks (which has happened a couple of times). Accidents happen, but this puts such a stoppage on normal activity. All in all, for the location, price, and all its features, I would never consider working out anywhere else. I'm a Microsoft employee, so I could go to the Pro Club with all its bells and whistles, but no thanks---I'll keep my Monroe Y. read more

The new YMCA community center in Monroe is fantastic. They offer a range of exercise machines and free weights. You can schedule a meeting with a personal trainer for 12 sessions to get you started on a program. They have a guided spinning room. There's a work out studio where they feature classes on pilates, yoga, etc. There's a pool with a kid's area roped off. Each locker room features a sauna and there's a hot tub in the swimming area. Oh, and there's a basketball court and 2 racquetball courts (racquets, balls, and eyewear included). They even have a massage room set aside (this isn't a spa, so it's not perfectly quiet, but it's a sports massage). For the family there is a family workout area for children under 13 who want to work out with mom and dad. There's also a family locker room area for people heading to the pool. And there's a teen room stocked with foosball, a pool table, some PCs, and more. All in all, a nice place to work out. It's $49/month with a one time per household joining fee. They regularly have half off promos on the joining fee. Much to my surprise my employer has a contract with them and I was able to get the joining fee waved! A great place to work out that isn't one of the commercial spots. read more

The new YMCA facility in Monroe is nice. Everything is clean and new and the pool is great too. They have racquetball and a nice bsketball court as well. However, I think they may have vastly oversold memberships. The workout room is small and always packed. They have an area to bring your children while you workout but you need to get there about 20 minutes before they open and wait in line. If you don't it gets full. Nice place but not big enough. It would be worth it to spend $10 or $15 more per month to actually get to work out. read more

I attended a yoga class as a guest at the YMCA in Monroe this morning (Saturday at 10:30-11:30) with high expectations but was very disappointed. We didn't even do any poses until 20 minutes had passed! The teacher was slowly and laboriously explaining about some elements of what we were going to do. Finally, we did a few followed by more incomprehensible explanations. We did triangle pose and revolved triangle on the right side, but never on the left. We also did some different poses on the left which were never done on the right. She reffered to half-lotus and full lotus as a pose done lying on the stomach and elevating the legs. She was wearing a back brace - possibly was in pain and on some strong meds. It was the worst class I've ever taken and really a complete waste of time. The facility itself is beautiful and well-maintained but they need to hire a much more competent yoga teacher. read more

Love the Y! Love the staff. I've taken many group exercise classes at the Y and have loved them all! We also do swimming and have done, mommy and me yoga and toddler sports. I also loved the Positive Discipline class. My children love playing at the Y. They feel safe and have a lot of fun there! read more

We are not members but recently completed a toddler/parent swim class with our 18 month old. Our teacher, Margaret, was wonderful! She didn't mind my husband and myself switching who was in the water each week so we both got the opportunity to swim with our daughter. She was also very good with a father who was not handling his son's fear of the water very well. She took control. My only complaint is that every week they just buzzed us through and told us we didn't need to take our temp card out. The very last week I didn't even bother to bring it in (the class was 8 weeks) and the lady at the front desk read me the riot act. A little rude; it was the last week and we weren't "breaking in". Love this Y! Clean, well-maintained and super friendly staff! We alternate between here and Marysville since we're located in between both cities. We tend to let our kids decide which one we go to since they're the ones that have to wait around for us but they like both locations equally. Personally I prefer coming here because I like that cardio and weights/free weights are the in the same room and childcare is inside the facility, as opposed to Marysville where it's out in the main lobby where any ol' person can just walk in... just doesn't feel as secure to me and my worrying mom self. read more

I was extremely upset to see the way the staff handled a group of kids (ages 10-15?) at Freylands park on 8/20/2o15. There are two climbing ares for children...one for small kids 0-5 and one that stands about 10' tall with two large enclosed slides for older kids. The staff member (male) brought a large group of kids (about 12+ in number). They totally surrounded and took over the the tot climbing area for about 30-45 minutes....then moved on to the older childrens climbing area (for kids 4-12 I would say), again these BIG kids took over the whole toy, climbing on inside and outside. No young children could get near them or the play area. When I spoke with the staff member....he was rude and uncaring that the little children could not play. What a terrible terrible way to act - especially when caring for other children. read more
