I was concerned when I first considered different childcare options that my very high energy, very…read morephysical preschooler would somehow not have his needs met at a school that is designed to meet the needs of those with special needs. Growing up in Rhode Island, I always thought of Meeting Street as a school for those with disabilities, but I didn't realize it was SO SO SO much more than that - it's a wonderful place for all children. From my very first meeting with the director, Miss Ange, I was very impressed - she addressed my concerns perfectly by saying they were used to addressing children as individuals and finding ways to meet their educational and emotional and physical needs. So if my child has a "high energy quota" (as she put it so wonderfully), they'll find ways to meet that proactively as an educational obstacle rather than try to force him to fit a certain mold (sit and listen) or punish his energy just as a behavioral problem. And they've met that every step of the way. They've got a wonderful playground that they use frequently, they have lots of physical activity including gym class (which is accessible to even his classmates with physical limitations), and they have an indoor sensory gym that allows for him to get his wiggles out even on rainy days. He's quickly learned that his energy isn't a bad thing, but how to channel it into the right directions so that he can be a good friend and classmate, and a good listener and nice student. His preschool teacher, Miss Abbi, has amazing energy and has managed to make great progress in his listening and socialization skills in the month he's been in class. He is now much more independent in putting his clothes and shoes on himself, he sits for quiet time when instructed to do so, he eats more foods than he did before starting school, and he's much better at interacting with other kids - asking to take turns, including others. I've also loved the app they use - it makes it easier to know when they've been checked in and out if someone other than me is doing it that day, and they send notes and photo updates throughout the day so both their Dad and I can see what they're up to at school. I fully believe my children (I also have a toddler who is also doing wonderfully) are better for being in such a loving environment where each child is an individual and loved for who they are, for having friends who may be different from them. It's a wonderful place, and I'd pick it every single time over and over as the childcare option for my kids. Every single day, my kids beg to go to school and hold hands and run into their classrooms with smiles and not a backwards glance at me. That's the best reward, knowing they love being there every day.

Cadence called us back quickly and recognized the difficult spot we were in and were able to provide a part-time spot . They provided such a warm, caring and safe environment. It was clear from the moment we toured, that the teachers had a tremendous amount of love for the kids in their care. Had we not committed to another school for the year - we would have been 100% comfortable keeping him at Cadence. At drop-off and pickup it felt like we had been a member of their community for longer than just a few weeks. He always came home excited and looked forward to arriving. He started his new school yesterday and his teachers said he had an amazing day. He listened, was polite and shared with others. He even shared stories about his friends and teachers from Cadence with the new staff. Their team was an essential part of helping him and setting him up for success. I felt compelled to post publicly what I saw while at a business across from Oliver Day School…read more When I got out of my car, I saw a teacher sitting on her phone while at least 2-3 kids were screaming. I watched for a few minutes and she never looked up from her phone. This continued for atleast 10 minutes. Another child was screaming inside and pounding on the glass door. The teacher never looked or acknowledged any of these kids. 30 minutes later, two additional teachers were outside with their little ones. There was screaming, crying and the teachers were just standing there talking to each other. I saw two teachers grab kids by their wrists to lift them off the ground and carry them inside. These kids looked roughly 1-2 years old!!! I asked a woman who frequents a business across the street what is going on with this daycare and she said she had witnessed similar situations. However, when she called the school, they were extremely rude and defensive. I would want to know this if I was looking at this school to send my child to or if this is where I was paying to send my child. The kids at this age do not have the ability to tell their parents what is happening throughout the day. I would AVOID this place.

My daughter has been coming here for about 6 months and I couldn't be happier. Then they have lunch and nap time and the afternoon is play time. If its nice out they all go outside in the back which is very secure and has a jungle gym and other various toys. When its raining or cold they have a big room that they call the "movement room" and its like a mini gymnasium that the kids can run around and play in. They also have different activities during different holidays and even held a picture day with a photographer like they do in grade/high school. The teachers are all really friendly and genuinely care about your child. Lastly and one of my favorite things is that they utilize an app that allows your child's teacher to send you updates throughout the day and they even send you pictures- it always makes me smile when I am at work and get a notification that they posted a picture, it really makes my day!! He transitioned from the older toddler to early pre-k about 2 months ago and all of the staff were so kind and helpful during this transition. I do not have one single complaint over the last year. Both my son and I love his teachers so much. They are so loving and caring. I would recommend this school to everyone I know. The aquatics director and CEO made me stand in his office despite me telling the CEO that I cannot stand or sit for an extended period due to chronic pain and my disability, and while making me stand and listen to him repeat everything he said over email, they both basically took the side of the lifeguard, suggesting without asking the offensive party that the lifeguard was "joking" and I was more or less holding a grudge. They even suggested that the Bayside pool wasn't the right pool for me because I was offended by being called an alcoholic by this lifeguard. They never asked the lifeguard to apologize to me after I requested an apology. I do not feel respected at this YMCA branch. Another issue is the staff don't tell you that there's an additional annual fee on top of the regular monthly fee and joiner's fee until after you've joined. I reached out to the same CEO and membership director about this issue, and have been met with silence for over a month. But when they didn't like that I complained about a lifeguard slandering me and his continued foul mannerisms towards me, the CEO wouldn't leave me alone constantly emailing me and demanding I go into his office when I asked for a phone call to accommodate my disability to address the issue.

The cardio/weights room, where I spend a lot of time has been updated with brand new equipment and is well managed - there are typically available cardio machines in the busy morning hours. This Y is also located next to the East Bay Bike Path - so one can easily bike here, and go out running during or after a visit. Bottom line a good value, a good facility for the area.

Three years old and the kids don't know their colours, shapes, names, numbers, or letters because they aren't being taught.

I was allowed to call anytime and check in and that helped me as a parent. My daughter never cried about being left there and when I would pick her up she would give me a huge hug them want to stay. There was minor staff changed over the years but a lot of tenured staff. All the staff was nice and each one I considered a good role model for my daughter. They held events throughout the year really showing how they were proud for their kids. My daughter learned a lot through play and was well prepared for school. From growing carrots to hands on wild and messy painting (as it should be!) to quiet time with books or independent crafting, we loved it. My daughter 2 years later is still friends with other classmates. Trailside's a gem. Chris now runs Trailside and while she seems very businessy my daughter (and us) loved her. She showed kids what rules are, how to follow them and how to have fun.
