Each book section is clearly marked and no book section is small. Often topics will creep into the other areas. Being a used bookstore their stock is understandably inconsistent. Some books are rare little gemstones, one of a kind treasures. Others are fascinating because there are duplicates of random tomes, like yacht types from the 1980's, that made me wonder how they had more than one at all. The store feels old. A used bookstore, I suppose, should feel old. I enjoyed walking through the aisles looking up at all the various titles. The employees stayed by the front desk - a couple older men who were exchanging stories of tulip festivals long since past. While they didn't engage people walking through they always turned their full attention to any customer who needed their help. It is a fascinating store!

Great place for pictures, affordable great quality second hand books, and oh did I mention it's also a coffee shop. I mean could it get any better? No I don't think it could. I genuinely felt so happy the moment I stepped inside this store. It's just such a beautiful space that feels cozy and inviting. After walking around a bit I went to order a coffee. And I honestly don't think I've ever met nicer baristas in my life! They were all so sweet and kind and helpful! I tried out the fig leaf latte and the autumn tea latte and both were spectacular! It truly represents the entrepreneurial spirit of its local founder & author. It is located just past the Skagit River Bridge in West Mt Vernon. A fun place to browse. On the day I visited they offered baked goods and coffee. Tables and chairs indoors and outdoors add to it's quaint hometown atmosphere. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, 12 noon to 5 pm.

I can only go every few weeks now but before COVId, I…read morehit the shop weekely while downtown getting a sandwhich at the CoOp to check the new arrivals even before they get priced and on the shelf. If you dont see what you want or if the item isnt the grade you want...just ask. They'll have it somewhere or know who has it. The grades of records go from playable but rough covers to collector grade, so they hit all price points. When they are well stocked, its not uncommon to find multplie copies of an album with prices from a few bucks to $20...and he's probably got a primo copy somewhere, some ungraded ones waiting to be logged in, and a trashed version for free out in the boxes out front. I even check the free box outside for covers in better condition than one in my collection or for missing liner notes, etc. They guys are a wealth of knowledge. Just ask. They'll straight up tell you if the albumn is a first pressing, a re-issue, a bootleg, etc. They love music....and cats.

I was hoping to find any reggae or roots artists, but they have a limited selection of these genres. However, they have a wide selection of country, folk, rock, classical, and of the like genres. The staff were friendly and offering to help me search for any genre or artist I was looking for. I quickly thumbed through the Caribbean selection and bought two vinyls. Each was $5, so I thought that was a score. They also have a box of free vinyls outside you can rummage through.

When the cafe in bookstore culture caught on, I spent even more hours in the bookstore. Then e-books happened and the pandemic. Cafes closed in most bookstores and many bookstores also died a slow death. I was pleasantly surprised to see a cafe (x Starbucks) here. And besides books, B&N also stocks games, religious texts (eg bibles which I hardly see in most bookstores in Vancouver now), driving maps and atlas (also an unicorn in Vancouver). There are also some lifestyle products and something for the audiophiles. Records and turntables. No more CDs. While there are no comfy armchairs scattered around like in the old days, you can still buy a book and read it at the cafe. I got a $1 coupon to use at the cafe when I purchased stuff and promptly used it. Quite a good cross promotion. Big parking lot out front.
