Great little record shop in Mt Vernon! Some of the records are definitely in rough shape, but there are good ones to be found too. Generally they are priced accordingly, but it's always a best to check the vinyl before buying. Some albums I don't care if they're a little noisy, and some I want to be pristine. Spent about 90 minutes looking through their selection and came away with some nice additions to the collection. They're heavy on the rock and country classics, but also have a variety mixed in. They apparently have some cats roaming around but I didn't get any kitty interactions unfortunately. The upstairs area (housing 8-tracks) and bathroom are totally trashed. Will definitely stop by again next time I'm in the area!

    Rare finds!

All used records, CDs at a fair price. Loved the vintage vibe! Lots of 69s and 79s vinyl. I recommend this place.

Great collection of records! Only thing it's missing is a dollar section/dollar bin for cheap collectors like me.

Even better, if you're wanting to get INTO the listening pleasure that only vinyl albums can give, you can find all manner of turntables, receivers, speakers.. basically anything you need to get started on the journey of discovering the rich musical sound NOT found in the digitally compressed music world! The owner, Russell, is thoroughly familiar with the various styles of music and the artists/groups (both well known AND obscure) and is able to make recommendations to customers who may be new to this type of ear candy.. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable prices of both the albums and record players, I've seen much more expensive ones at lesser quality in other secondhand stores -and online- so believe me, you'll come back again and again! ((And may I give a plug about his radio show that is locally produced and available on the radio or streaming services.. see the attached photo, listen, and tell your friends!))

Russ and team are great people who love getting to know their clientele's eclectic taste in music. It is a great feeling to walk in and have the staff mention an artist you like and that they have something new or similar in stock. The reason for my updated review is the new store layout. The entire store has been revamped and is more welcoming to browse. There is even a new listening station setup! This is great for checking if a record plays well or if some wacky album art catches the eye. The variety of records coming in from the community is getting better and better with the offered genres beginning to expand. Prices are unbeatable for the quality provided. This is largely due to the focus being on people who actually listen to their records. New services such as turntable repair/setup is great to see. They even have some models for sale! Consignment is still going strong for some of the more pristine records available. Even so, they aren't priced unreasonably. (Again, focused on getting these records into rotation asap with a new set of ears.) My personal favorite is seeing local bands/musicians having brought in music to be sold. They even have a couple patches, buttons, and denim jackets for sale!

There is wall to wall media of music both CD's/cassettes, DVD's movies- including box sets of shows. Some of which are new or are in great condition. It's a relatively small shop but it's packed with so much media, you could spend a bit of time here if you're looking for something specific or even if you're browsing. It's just on the other side of 405 but still considered part of Totem Lake. What's nice is Vortex would be considered a small business, I mean what other major retailer these days buys and sells physical media like this presently? furthermore, I'm all for the preservation of physical media with so much of everything going digital now. If I'm looking for something in particular and need it for my DVD or CD player, I'll probably try here and perhaps you should too.

Seattle record shops are often picked over, so come over here to find treasures and better pricing. They also have the new records here too, and vinyls seem to be priced according to quality as you can find the same vinyls priced differently. Selection is great without being impossible to browse through. The owner is pretty friendly. There's also nice ambient music playing in the background (on a record player, of course). I bought some records where the album cover was very worn, so I wasn't expecting much but miraculously they played without any noise. Amazing!

So, I was thrilled when I found that, not only did the stores still exist, but they had a Lynnwood location when I was in that part of the metro Seattle area. It was fantastic to be able to browse a huge collection of music and movies, and find great titles at wonderful prices. On the music side of things, they had loads of used titles, and I was exstatic to see how many new discs they had in stock. I asked at the counter if they had a section for SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) music, a format that has always been a niche product, and has very few titles being released any more. The person behind the counter not only knew what I was talking about, but he apologized for not having a separate section for these discs, and told me I would find them mixed in with everything else by the same artists. I am very much looking forward to my next visit to the Seattle area, and being able to browse some more.

I returned a record as it was skipping right on the first track. None of my other records that I bought previously not only from here, but from other record stores did not have that issue. I spoke to a man that I think was a manager or something, I was explaining what happened and he immediately judged my record player for being on the cheap end that's why my record was skipping. He asked another question if my speakers were built in, as that can also cause it to skip? I'm not new to this. But to use my record player as an excuse to why the record was skipping was insulting. I told him that none of my other records were doing it, so they need to replace it, in which they did. Guess what? The new copy DID NOT SKIP! So that crosses off my record player as the reason. I did not appreciate that kind of talk. Will I be back? Yes, I think so. But that left a bad taste in my mouth.
