So I decided to try another KidSnips closer to my house and based off of other yelp reviews went with Keisha. She was AWESOME!!! She was friendly, knowledgeable (she's been doing this 15 years!!), took her time to make sure it was done right but also knew she was dealing with a toddler so kept it quick!! Wow there's a lot of hate for this location of KidSnips! My son and I have never had a bad experience here. We always been able to schedule appointments at good times and they've even been able to book a same day appointment for my son. We also only have Ms Bobbi cut his hair. The first time we visited, we just went with a random stylist and we were so lucky to get Ms Bobbi--so many compliments from friends and family! So now we only book with her. She's great with kids, doesn't patronize them with baby talk and isn't afraid to enlist a parent's help if the child needs a little sit-still encouragement. She's also friendly to the parents too--I don't know her like I know my own hair stylist, but I always have fun talking to Bobbi. The location is pretty crazy, it's always busy and crowded and I feel the shop needs to be twice the size. I think because of the cramped quarters the place always has a haphazard quality to it. But service has always been friendly. Some say $20 is too much for a kid's haircut, well, have you seen my kids school pictures? Yeah, gorgeous head of hair. Well worth it. read more

My 15 month old son does not suffer fools lightly. My wife and I made an appointment and from the women at the reception desk to Olivia the stylist, we were treated very well. The place looks like a penny candy store and toy store that cuts hair. Each station has a DVD player so your child can pick out a movie to distract them. There are lots of distractions in the store for kids to look at so they don't freak out about the buzzing, combing or clipping. Olivia was so quick and professional that we aren't quite sure what happened. 20 minutes later we were out the door and thrilled with the results. The staff was friendly, the cut price was reasonable, and Olivia did a great job. I'm not sure what other people want in a child's haircut. All I can say is that we didn't go in the middle of a Saturday and we made an appointment. I'm sure that it is crazy busy if you walk in at noon on a Saturday. Advice to parents, plan to treat yourself to a nice adult beverage after the haircut. It gives you something to look forward to. You'll toast the gang at Kidsnips. read more

An update. My son's cut was outgrown and uneven within 2 weeks. The issue is I need a cut that lasts. The cut only took 5 minutes! And, for the cost of the Groupon, it was overpriced. And looking at the dates of the reviews, maybe it is a result of the Groupon? But, going back every 2 weeks would get expensive here. In comparison, at our usual barber, and not a salon, a cut costs only $9, and lasts at least a month. Bargain and dependable. No frills. read more

My family has visited this location for years. I have 3 kids and usually have a quite pleasant experience. Today we arrived 6 minutes late for our appointment which was 100 percent my fault. Each of our previous visits we were early...but today (also mind you we are dealing with young children) we didn't arrive at correct time. Instead of empathy and understanding and maybe a little flexibility, especially because we spend so much money each time we visit, we were turned away without any other options. We had a great experience for our baby's 1st haircut today! He is only 8 months but had long hair. We booked an appointment last minute and they were happy to take us. Ms. keisha our stylist was so good and provided us with a wonderful experience. She asked what our son wanted to watch on the ipad, she was friendly, smiled the whole time and was calm when he was crying and handled him like a pro! My son was overwhelmed but she did her thing, fast and flawless!! I didn't even know what to do myself but the way she handled our son during his 1st hair cut was just amazing! This is a kid's hair salon located on the upper level of Oak Brook Mall between Sears and Nordstrom. Kid's sit in cars while they watch their favorite DVD on the tube. They also get to pick some toys out of the treasure chest. They sell kids and adult hair care products as well as toys. My son got his first haircut there and they presented him with a certificate along with a photo and a little Ziploc bag of his hair to recognize this milestone in his life. The haircut cost about $18 which I think is a good deal because I would not have the steady hand, patience and tricks these stylists have to cut any kid's hair especially an infant. My son's hair is all in different lengths and want his hair to grow in fuller. Ms. Rose was very friendly and made suggestions on how to cut his hair. Had a pretty bad experience at KidSnips yesterday. We've never taken our daughter here before but the 4 stars on Yelp seemed promising so we stopped by as a walk in while shopping. The lady at the front desk was friendly and got us in with Toni pretty quick. I got a bad vibe from her (Toni) from the second we walked in. No smile, greeting or anything as I walked past her and smiled at her myself. I almost thought she didn't work there. She wasn't kid friendly at all. We've gone to plenty of kids hair salons and the stylists are always bubbly and welcoming. Not her. I don't even think I saw her crack a smile. Now the haircut. I thought my daughters hair looked good when we left the salon. Although Toni's whole vibe sucked I figured if her hair looked good that's all that matters. I couldn't tell how messed up it was until I gave her a bath. There's pieces hanging down 1-3" longer than her hair length. I couldn't believe my eyes. My daughter will be 4 next week so it's not like she was extremely wiggly the whole time. She's gotten way better cuts while moving a whole lot more. Paid $22 plus a $5 tip for a bad haircut and bad service. Won't be back and don't recommend KidSnips whatsoever. read more

Well it was time for my daughter's first - professional - hair cut. My little girl came into this world with a head full of gorgeous black hair. I've been trimming her hair since she was about 6 months old. She is almost 2 now and I thought it would be nice to take her somewhere to get fussed over, get a hair bow, and a nice haircut that mom didn't do. We went first thing on a Saturday morning and thought we would walk in since it says they accept walk ins. Well, I should've called ahead - it was 10 a.m. and they didn't have an opening until 12:30. Since that was going to head into her naptime I made an appointment for around 3. Not a big deal for us since we're nearby, but next time I know! It's kind of a small toy store, enticing your kids to ask for everything so you pay for a haircut, and a yoyo, and a hair bow, and a bouncy ball, and the list goes on. Mostly sh*t that you want to throw out (if it doesn't break in the first day the kid has it). But the seats for the kids are cars which is fun. They get to choose a DVD to watch while they get their haircut. My daughter was amazingly well behaved that day, but a DVD of her favorite movie may be the perfect thing to get her to sit still on a tough day. Katy cut my daughter's hair and did a good job. She was nice and even took her photo for her "1st Haircut" certificate. That's a cute touch for kids' first hair cuts. They also give you a lock of their hair. For you scrapbookers, this is good news! With a "1st Haircut" they also give you a $5 coupon for their next visit. After all was said and done I think I paid about $20. A bit expensive for every hair cut but for her first one, I was happy to pay it. I think I will continue to trim my daughter's hair and bring her here once every blue moon to even it out. read more

She was also able to pick a free gift out of a "treasure chest" which in my opinion is a chest full of plastic junk, but hey, the kids love it right?! We arrived 10 minutes early and waited as Laura was finishing up with another client. Shortly after she finished with her other client, a couple walked in with two kids. Laura signaled for one of the kid to get in the chair, I looked at my husband and asked him to tell her that our son was next. He decided to talk to the front desk so I approached Laura and asked her if she was going to cut my sons hair. She said she would check with the front desk and walked towards the front desk. She came back and said "your husband is taking to the front desk" and asked the other client to be seated on the chair. The front desk told us we could wait for Laura to finish with her new client or wait for another stylist. We were there before the other clients and we had an appointment. I scheduled an appointment and told them my three year old has curly hair, I asked if the person who will be cutting her hair is good with curls, they said yes. They never asked me about shampooing etc. when we get there the stylist says she needs to shampoo, and I asked if that was included she said no it's an extra 7 dollars. The manager tells the stylist that she has an appointment after me, and didn't see pleased that my daughter needed her washed. It couldn't be cut dry. The stylist didn't seem very confident in curly hair. My daughter complained that the stylist combing her hair was hurting her hair. They split her hair into three sections and then quickly cut across. Her hair is uneven. I wish I took her to a different salon. We normally go to Mario tricoci for her cuts, but thought I would try this, since others spoke highly of it. I was very disappointed with the cut, and service. I felt rushed, and didn't feel like they did a good job. They also didn't seem very experienced cutting Children's hair. For example at previous cuts I was never told to hold my child's head. I'm sad I went here. Hopefully save other parents from my mistake. read more
