After little more than 8 weeks (despite me ignoring diet or aerobic exercise discipline), I managed to lose over 4% body fat working out three times a week with Kenny! I also lost over 2 inches on my hips-- and I'm 57! Now I am encouraged to keep going, to lose the weight I've gained since menopause, and to keep getting stronger and get my full range of motion back. With Kenny's training and expertise I get to benefit from diet recommendations (gum had carbs, who knew?) and yes, even aerobic exercise. I'm going to try jump roping with one that has a counter in the handle. I'm looking forward to being leaner and fitter in 2019.

The sessions were difficult since I hadn't worked out in a few years, but reinforced my thoughts that I needed to get back to the gym and I signed up for a year's worth of their small group training. I love the small class size and while the classes are tough, my body feels better, is definitely toning up and I sleep better too. I love the individual attention the small group classes allow and how they focus on different muscle groups each day. Every trainer I've worked with leading the classes has been excellent....encouraging and pushing me to increase my strength but modifying exercises when needed to avoid injury. I started out 2 months ago as an online lifestyle client, having no formal training before, and since the process began, I have decided to not only compete, but to sign on for continued training post competition, and compete in the spring. My first competition is 24 weeks away. I have lost 18 lbs in 2 months, weight I didn't know I was holding, I have not cut out all of the carbs in my diet(in fact I'm eating whole nutrient dense foods now than before). My training plan and cardio plan is supported by Tina herself as well as an in person coach in San Antonio weekly to tweak my movements. For a long time I have struggled with body dysmorphia (as lots of young women do) and have bounced between physically demanding sports. For this reason, I do not count calories or weigh myself daily, Tina has programmed my diet in a way that gives her full control. I eat what she tells me, and work at the intensity level she asks of me. I cannot explain the amount of freedom and confidence that comes with hiring someone who knows your goals and gets you there safely. It's like boxing up my self criticism and giving it to someone else to handle. However, this program is tough(one of the most mentally and physically demanding things I have ever done), and it requires honesty and transparency on all counts. Tina is THERE FOR YOU, even through deviations. If you are serious about transforming your body and your perspective- I recommend her for it all. Through her move to California she has not ceased communication or attentiveness. She is passionate, serious about her work, critical of movements and form, knowledge of all things relevant to competing, and can help you hit new goals.

Two days after payment cleared, she announced she was leaving San Antonio for California within a month. That month turned into a few weeks. Initially she tried to persuade me and my workout partner to work with her online. After requesting refund instead, I was eventually shorted one session. Tina has ignored my communication to review her schedule and my swipe-in days to reconcile the days she left early and the day she overslept and did not show. In other words, she's just ignoring me. I feel she was deceptive from the beginning. She knew she was leaving when she offered us the dual workout plan and used our payments to fund her relocation. My recommendation is to use someone with integrity.

At Gold's Gym, I meandered from machine to machine, half-heartedly gave the treadmill a go and looked over at the free weights section like it was the boss fight that I wasn't leveled up enough to attempt. I would lose a pound here and there but it was all just so.. boring. Alio doesn't do boring. Every day there's a new circuit that works a different set of muscles than the previous day. Add in the music and lighting and Alio makes Gold's look like the Wal-Mart of gyms. Danny and Sam are amazing trainers. Don't know what the heck a sumo squat pulse is? They're there to demonstrate and watch your form to prevent tweaks. Not sure what weight you should use for a single arm kettlebell swing? They're there to help you figure out what'll work for you. On the other end, if you're someone who loves a challenge, they are ready (and willing!) to make a circuit harder for you like adding in extra cardio and/or going up on the weights/reps. The best part of Alio Fitness Club? Results! I've personally witnessed many people get in shape here ranging from people whose goal was weight loss to others who put on serious muscle, it's always inspiring. Being active duty at the time and just having a baby I needed to do something. I loved what Crossfit had to offer but was missing something. Fast forward to 2016 and I needed another Box home due to a move. I found CrossFit 925 searching for a Box near me and let me tell you, it was the best thing I could have done. The coaches, the owners and the athlete community here are amazing. Crossfit 925 feels like a home with a second family. Everyone is so inviting and so friendly. There has never been a time that I arrive and I haven't been greeted with a smile. And the coaches, well they care deeply about their athletes not only here in the BOx but outside as well. They take notice when you haven't shown up and they take the time time to text you and/or call you. They ensure that you're moving well and take the time to give that extra needed attention when they see you struggling. The classes here are small, with no more than 15 people per class. So it feels like your always getting a personal training session. What more could you ask for? And the owners Ben and Diana, they are the greatest. They are family-oriented and big on community. Their Box, Crossfit 925, is a safe place to bring your kids and just hang out. I'd definitely come to check it out. I promise you won't regret it. Frozen painfully for 17(!) years, I worked for two years with Luisa or Hugo to regain full strength and mobility -- my surgeon was super impressed! Most patients my age (mid-60s) never regain full shoulder function after being frozen so long. This year Elite Pilates helped me thru hip replacements. My surgeon approved me for Pilates with my private trainer after only three weeks after surgery because they were so confident of their expertise customizing exercises to help my body heal. All that rehab over three months helped me recover faster after my recent second hip replacement. I'm looking forward to regaining my strength and flexibility at Elite Pilates so I can get back to hiking and dancing!

I would appreciate a few more staff members in the morning (5am - 8am). There is usually only 1 employee. While I appreciate them cleaning the gym during their shift, it leaves the front desk empty. Having to wait 5-10 min after a workout to get into a tanning session in is not ideal. It would be nice to have a self-check-in to the tanning via PF app.
