So grateful I found KidWings! My daughter spent the first few years of her life at a Montessori preschool, and amongst other complaints, it was expensive for what we were getting. We were stumped about finding another school for her, and traditional public style wasn't sitting right with us for many reasons. Then I started seeing posts on Facebook about Kidwings, and their summer camps looked so fun, easy to sign up for, so we gave a few weeks a try. Turns out my 4yr old loved them, and we enrolled her in the 25/26 school year without hesitation. She picks wild flowers everywhere she goes, and tells me about the different plants she's learned at school. Yes, we live in beautiful San Diego- there's many outside activities available, and good weather almost all the time, however I still don't think most children these days are getting adequate time in nature, especially with all of the smart phone/tech that's at their fingertips. Outdoor time for my kids is essential to me. Finding this resource for my daughter- to learn while playing outside is the biggest blessing. I wanted to take some time before leaving this review, to ensure it was thoughtful and informative. The majority of the teachers at KidWings are truly amazing. My son loved Ms. Adrianna and Ms. Mar especially and we were heartbroken to pull our child out abruptly. While the details of what happened will be kept confidential to protect the children involved, it is crucial for every parent to make an informed decision when choosing to enroll here. A child reported that sexual exploration happened at school that was far beyond what would be considered normal. As someone with 10+ years experience working with children, I have experienced situations similar enough to this to feel confident stating that. This happened more than once and with more than one child. This immediately raised concerns as to why there wasn't better supervision. Additionally, why was this not communicated to all parents enrolled? Not only should the teachers be notified to keep an extra close eye, but the parents should have the opportunity to have important discussions with their children about bodily autonomy and what to do if they feel uncomfortable. How were children left alone long enough for something like this to happen?   When this was brought to the Director's attention, Sandra met the issue with denial and excuses. No CPS report was made by the mandated reporters, all parents were not notified and the main concern was protecting the brand. I then immediately began to share with Facebook groups and people that I knew who had their children enrolled as I know from experience that transparency in these situations is important for the safety of the children. Being open about what happened, who was affected, and what changes will be made to avoid this in the future only gives parents more comfort and opportunities to have important dialogues with their children and the people watching them for hours every week. It was only when she got wind of the posts that she decided to share with *some* of the parents.   The lack of transparency and the defensiveness, ultimately lead us to feeling like this school was not safe for our son. I know certain things are completely out of the control of teachers, directors, and any child care providers. However, the communication provided to parents, who are trusting these providers with their entire world, is the most important thing. This is not the first instance I have learned of the Director keeping things from other parents and I caution anyone who is considering enrolling here. read more

I could not recommend Kidwings any more to any parent that feels unsure of where to send your children. My son has his own challenges and the teachers give him the loving attention he needs without ever making it seem like a burden. Every morning they look genuinely happy to see the kids and give the same compassion you would want to give your own child. I am not exaggerating to say I've cried happy tears to know that he's well taken care of here... i wish i got this experience as a child, and it just feels so right to be able to give him this experience. I would give this school a million stars if I could and if we weren't moving overseas I would have her enrolled until she ages out. We searched for a good school/care situation after two not so great situations for our daughter. Our daughter was in OT for potential sensory processing differences and Sandra welcomed her with a loving heart. "Nature school is OT everyday!" was her response. This really reassured us as we had other teachers and care takers see SPD as a "problem". All the teachers are incredible, warm and fun. My daughter comes home happy and TIRED. No issues ever came up, and the minor ones that did (potty stuff) they approached it with care and professionalism. I love this school. Truly. Wow, wow, wow! The "My First Moon Camp" was an incredible asset to our young daughter, and honestly an asset to our connection together as mother and daughter. We tried a week of summer camp at Kidwings for our 4.5 yr old twins. They LOVED it. Everyday they came home and told us all the details of their day which they never do at their preschool. The teachers seemed to have already made a connection with our kids in just one week. Registration was simple and quick. Sandra was responsive and quick to answer any questions via email. I am not exaggerating this camp is LIFE CHANGING! I am reviewing one of KidWings camps but I have to say...I already knew that KidWings was wonderful because my niece has been attending their nature school for two years. She has the best time when she is there and they are always doing such cute little adventures. I can tell that there is a real focus on social and emotional development and I think it's so sweet to have such a nurturing and kind experience for pre school. Ok, so now to the review of camp. My daughter attended the My First Moon Camp over the summer. We missed last years so we were thrilled that she had a spot this time. I was already excited for her when I heard what the women had planned for the girls all week, but this camp far exceeded my expectations. The information was presented and taught in such an intentional and meaningful way. They learned about anatomy, and puberty, and how to love and care for your body while it is changing and across the lifespan. They danced and sang and did art. It was so great. My daughter came home each day just BEAMING and feeling so confident and proud. It was beautiful to see. The icing on the cake is that Friday they hosted a Mother/Daughter ceremony. I really can't put to words of unique and meaningful this evening was. It was such a beautiful opportunity to spend quality time with my daughter and connect in a deep way. I am endlessly grateful to Alex and Sandra for creating and hosting this amazing camp. Alex truly has a gift for connecting with the girls and inspiring a deep love, gratitude, and connection to their bodies and to nature. I am completely in awe of the seeds that she planted in my daughters heart and mind over the week. My daughter wants to return next year... and I am excited too. This review is for our one day experience about six months ago. Drop off went great with my three year old son, but the rest of his experience was pretty bad. I stayed nearby (in my car) to observe what I could since it was his first class and they didn't allow us to attend any type of trial class or observe ahead of time. When we arrived, it was a bit disorganized in terms of directions. The teachers werent wearing masks and told me they didn't have to since they were outside (which is inaccurate). They started a morning circle type of thing after about a half hour of the kids running around or sitting there. During the waiting period, my son was trying to play tag with some kids out in the field, with no adult supervision right there (they were far way by some trees and other kids). My son got upset at several points and no adults came over. He started hitting some of the older kids and finally an adult intervened (when I asked him what happened later, my son told me the older kids were calling him a "bad guy" and it upset him.) Once I saw the teachers had my son, I drove off. About 30 minutes later I got a phone call. Once they had started hiking, my son ran the other way (according to the teachers). They called me to come get him, and I arrived within ten minutes. When I arrived he was hysterical and demanding to go home. He had never reacted this way before in other schools or with sitters. They told me he didn't want to stay with the group or do the hike because he was worried I wouldn't be able to find him. It wasn't until we got home that I noticed he had red marks all over his arms, which later turned to bruises. My son told me some older kids had grabbed him hard. When I messaged the head teacher about it, with pictures, she denied anything like that happened and said they did their best with my son. I know kids get anxious and cry for us on the first couple of days because of separation anxiety, but the bruises were inexcusable and there wasn't any responsibility taken. They blamed my child. Therefore I think this review is warranted. Obviously it wasn't a good fit for my son, but they should have also been more organized, wearing masks, and set expectations with the kids so my son knew what to expect (which would have eliminated most of the issues he had). read more

I wanted to take time to highlight one of my favorite parts of my daughter's childhood... Nature School! My daughter attends KidWings, a school that is 100% outdoor, rain, wind, or shine. Research has shown profound cognitive and emotional benefits to learning in nature. We started with KidWings during the pandemic; my daughter was 3.5 years old. I can say in the year and a half that she has attended her school, she has grown into such a strong, resilient, independent young lady. She is learning Spanish, plant and weather cycles, and anatomy, along with colors, numbers, letters that is taught in preschool. She can even identify some edible plants and encourages us to try them when she sees them! I love that her play is designed around her imagination with natural materials vs toys. She has also attended this school throughout the whole pandemic and everyone, including teachers, have been healthy despite their closeness, which exemplifies the importance of vitamin D and exposure to nature for your immune system and microbiome. If you have a little one please look into this wonderful nature school! They have a higher teacher to student ratio given the fact that they are outdoors and I have never not felt that my daughter wasn't safe, even while hiking. In fact, I feel that the environment helps to promote my daughter's situational awareness and judgement about risk taking. Now at almost 5 she is extremely independent, especially when taking care of herself outdoors. The philosophy of this school encourages children to negotiation and resolve conflict on their own. While the teachers allow children the space to work out issues, any serious concerns I have had about situations with other children have been addressed promptly. read more
