Our son still talks about Ms. Tina coming into their classroom and reading them special books (his favorite was about an owl in NYC) and Tina consistently shared specific memories of our son's social and emotional growth during his time there. The teachers we had at Fleur de Lis (Ms. Sandy, Ms. Chelsea, Ms. Amber, Ms. Kiara and Ms. Diana for Spanish) were incredible in every way - we appreciated the attention to the holistic needs of each child - the cognitive, physical, and emotional were all given attention and we saw our son blossom in each area. I remember my son, Julian, sobbing when I left him on his first day as a two year old, and my heart was breaking. In less than a week, he was all smiles at drop off, excited to see his teachers and friends. Since then, he's thrived at this school, both emotionally and educationally. Now, two years later, he's heading to Francis Parker, and looking back on his time at FDL, I can't express how grateful I am to the amazing team there. There are a few specifics that make FDL special: The community -- everyone at FDL knows Julian's name, even teachers who aren't assigned to his class. Pre-Covid, when I would pick him up from his classroom, his daily departure was like a little parade, with waves and goodbyes to friends, teachers, directors, everyone. You really feel like part of a family here. Kira, Bev, April, Julie, Julia, Diana, Iris, Nina, Autumn, and many others...each has been a unique and positive impact on Julian and our family over the past two years. The safety -- speaking of Covid, I don't think I appreciated how nice it is to have total confidence in the efforts of the FDL team to keep my child safe at all costs until this pandemic. When they reopened under new safety guidelines, I never once worried they would slack or not keep the sanitation and safety bar high. In fact, Julian now inspects my hand washing and admonishes me if I have not made enough soap bubbles or washed long enough . They always ran a tight ship, but it's exceptional now. The positive reinforcement of high expectations -- on my visit prior to enrolling at FDL, I saw all the kids eating lunch as they chattered politely and consistently used manners. On the playground, no one pushed. They all took turns. What's more, they were still incredibly joyous little kids, giggling and delighting in silly play. I was in awe. And yet, now Julian models those same behaviors. FDL teachers are kind and warm, but firm. They set a high bar, and the kids rise to meet it. At the same time, there is tremendous fun had on the daily at this school. Julian greets me at pick up with a big smile and a hug, his cheeks flushed from play and sand in his shoes. He excitedly shows me his projects and tells me funny stories and things he learned from the day. FDL is exceptional. If you have the chance to send your child there, take it. You would be hard pressed to find a more loving and capable setting. We will miss it terribly!

I also appreciate how Ms. Kelly thoughtfully transformed the school this year to a more authentic Montessori environment -- updating the furniture, toys, and curriculum. The school organizes fun and engaging activities throughout the year, which my son always enjoyed. Another thing I truly value is the school's excellent communication. The teachers regularly share photos of the children's daily activities -- as a working parent, it always makes my day to see what my little one is doing while I'm on break. They are also very prompt and transparent when reporting any accidents, clearly explaining what happened, what steps were taken, and how my son was doing afterward. I also love that students wear uniforms, which gives a real sense of belonging and community. I've even met other Pearl parents outside of school (randomly like at the YMCA), and we all share the same sentiment -- Pearl Montessori is a wonderful place for our kids to grow. Even though we've graduated from Pearl, Ms. D and Ms. Kelly, as my son's very first teachers, will always hold a special place in his little heart (and ours).

What amazed me the most is that every single teacher at that school knew my kid's name. Every single one. It feels like such a safe and loving community. The director has been there for close to 30 years, and she's great. Straightforward, no nonsense, and kind, and loving to the kids. They spend a lot of time outdoors and have a very play-focused curriculum. The families are warm and friendly. We were genuinely sad to go. I picked this preschool in part because of the excellent reviews, and I wanted to contribute to that. All the teachers were very caring and the teacher the student ratio was good. They had a lot of volunteer opportunities and there were a few of parent led events each year so I thought that was really neat. This school would have been more fun if it weren't for COVID. During normal times, they had school performances in the spring and early December that they rehearse for. We moved to Santee and since I work from home, going to this school became a hardship. We were sad to leave but my daughter will always have great memories of this place.

Thank you for your response. I need to clarify several statements because I do not believe your…read moreresponse accurately reflects my daughter's experience or the concerns I raised. The suggestion that my daughter struggled primarily because she had "rarely been separated" from me is inaccurate. Before attending Grace Kids Preschool, she attended Grace Church children's ministry for 12 Sundays in a row. We intentionally worked on separation, and by approximately her sixth through twelfth visits, she would happily go downstairs, did not cry when I left, and enjoyed her time there. She has also been cared for while I worked by my mother and other trusted caregivers without these issues. My daughter had been potty trained for approximately two and a half months before attending Grace Kids. She had never had a bowel-movement accident during that time. On her third day at Grace Kids, she had a urine accident. Six days after beginning school, she had her first bowel-movement accident since being potty trained. This was extremely unusual for her. Since leaving Grace Kids, the contrast has been significant. Within four days, she returned to successfully using the toilet with no further accidents. Her eating has returned to normal, her behavior has improved, and the anxiety she developed surrounding the specific water bottle she brought to school has significantly decreased. Regarding food, my concern was never simply whether food was "offered." The snacks I packed repeatedly came home untouched. On her third day, I specifically raised this with Mary, who told me she would leave a note for the teachers. Despite that, her snacks were untouched again on the fourth day and again on her fifth and final day. That Friday, when I arrived early, I already had my daughter's lunchbox in my hand yet was still being handed another child's lunchbox. Given my concerns about her eating, this raised additional questions for me about how consistently the children's belongings and individual needs were being tracked. There were also inconsistencies regarding my daughter's classroom and supervision. On Wednesday, I arrived to find her in Room 4 instead of her regular Room 6. On Thursday, I arrived at approximately the same time and went to Room 4 expecting her to be there again, but she was back in Room 6. I was never given clear information about why she was being moved, where she would be, or who was supervising her. My concern is not that children can never transition between rooms. My concern is the lack of consistent communication about where my newly enrolled child was being cared for and by whom. I also personally observed, twice during her short enrollment, what appeared to be one teacher supervising a full classroom during transitions to or from playtime. When I picked her up early that Friday, I noticed a scratch on her lip. After coming home, she also began displaying unusually aggressive and physical behavior that was not typical for her. Her sleep changed as well. My daughter has consistently taken approximately two-hour naps. The Saturday following her final day--the same day as her first bowel-movement accident--she completely refused to nap. She had never gone an entire day without a nap before. Any one of these behaviors could perhaps be attributed to adjustment. My concern is the number of changes that occurred together within such a short period: regression in toileting, changes in eating, sleep and behavior, anxiety surrounding her water bottle, and the inconsistencies I personally observed regarding her belongings, classroom placement, and supervision. Most importantly, I have been able to observe what happened after she stopped attending. Within four days, I saw significant improvement. Her eating returned to normal, her toileting returned to normal without additional accidents, her behavior improved, and her anxiety surrounding her water bottle decreased. For those reasons, I cannot agree that everything I observed should simply be attributed to a child needing more than five days to acclimate. I understand that preschool transitions can be difficult, and I never expected an immediate or perfect adjustment. However, as her mother, I know her established behaviors and abilities. I watched several previously established skills and behaviors decline during this experience and then improve after she was removed from the environment. My concerns were not raised to attack Grace Kids Preschool. They were based on what I personally observed and the significant changes I witnessed in my daughter before, during, and after her attendance. I respect your right to respond to my experience, but I stand by the concerns I raised and the observations I documented regarding my daughter's care.

Something to note is that there is only one park, so big dogs are combined with small ones. Theres a small obstacle course for dogs to jump and run through. And for the humans, there's also a few benches on the side to sit at.

This is more based on the dog park that's on the same lot as the Children's Park. This one uses…read moreturf, which i find has it's benefits on the days after a rainstorm since it doesn't get muddy. There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

Our family has had a truly wonderful experience at KidWings over the past two years. Our son has been attending since last September 2023, and now our daughter has joined him in the last four months. From day one, we've felt so confident and at peace knowing our children are in such caring and capable hands. The teachers at KidWings are incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate. They go above and beyond to create a nurturing environment and have been such positive role models for our kids. You can see how deeply they care about each child's growth and well-being, and that level of genuine dedication means so much to us as parents. One of the things we absolutely love about KidWings is their emphasis on the outdoors. It has been amazing to watch both of our kids grow in their appreciation for nature. I absolutely love working at Kidwings Nature School! We are creating a profound impact on the kids by enriching their minds, bodies, and souls through meaningful connections with nature. We get to explore many parks around San Diego, and it feels like an adventure every time! The kids play together, learn something new every day, and grow in so many ways. We even have a homeschool in nature program where the kids get to learn about different cultures at the International Houses in Balboa Park and do community service projects at senior centers, Feeding San Diego, and horse ranches. What makes Kidwings Nature School truly unique is that, in addition to our nature-based classes, we also offer empowerment classes on the weekends for both girls and boys. These classes cover a variety of topics designed to build confidence and foster a sense of connection--to themselves and to one another. Kidwings Nature School has been an absolute gem for my 6-year-old daughter! Every week, she wakes up with excitement, eager to dive into another day of exploration and learning in the great outdoors. The program beautifully combines environmental science education with the joy of playing and discovering nature, allowing the kids to bond and create lasting friendships. The teachers are truly fantastic--passionate, nurturing, and dedicated to fostering a love for the environment in each child. I can see how much my daughter enjoys her time there, as she skips happily to and from school every drop-off and pick-up. I'm so happy we found Kidwings. I had been wanting something outdoors and engaging for my son, and this has been a great fit. Every day he comes home dirty and with his "treasures" he found at school (rocks, sticks, etc) I love that he is engaging with nature, both rain and shine, and still getting to experience childhood play, even while in school. He's learning things in a fun way. And it's been great to see him come out of his shell. A very cautious kid by nature, I've seen him gain confidence and take more risks. He is also engaging more with other kids, whereas before Kidwings he just kept to himself. I also love that it's mixed ages as he's learning from watching the older kids, and can also learn the value of teaching those younger than him as well. The staff is great, very understanding of how hard drop-off can be for the kids, and step in when necessary to help ease the transition. I highly recommend Kidwings to anyone looking for a learning environment in an untraditional setting. You won't regret it! read more

My daughter started going to Kid Wings Nature school over the summer in 2021with their summer camp program and although she only did 3 weeks, it really made an impact on her and she learned so much in such a short amount of time. Because she enjoyed it so much, we decided to enroll her in the program in the fall. She still loves it and comes home with all kinds of interesting facts about bugs, types of plants she has learned about , and singing different Spanish songs and cute dances she has learned.. we love the meditation and yoga she is learning also. The instructors are all extremely loving, caring and nurturing and all super friendly.... Very family oriented. Our family has found the most nurturing, accepting , supportive, loving, and truly magical home in KidWings Nature School. The phenomenal teachers invite our son's curiosity, celebrate his enthusiasm, and have helped shape his understanding of true friendships. They are devoted, passionate, and communicative. We are beyond grateful to have found this incredible school and community and can't recommend it any more highly. We weren't quite ready for our son to start preschool but when we learned about KidWings and met with the staff, we were inspired and knew he would feel at home right away. We are very happy with this outdoor school and everything they do for our family. Our daughter is 5 and a half years old, and she truly loves being there. My daughter is a very shy and timid girl. She cries if I drop her off anywhere. After dropping her off on her first day of nature school, she ran up to me and said she loved her class. Here we are 6 months later and when I asked her where her favorite place to be is, she said nature school, not the vacation she just went on. We've watched our son grow into a kind, curious, and resilient little human because of the foundation they helped build. The days are full of real childhood magic (which is what we had hoped for!). Our son came home excited to tell us about native plants, mushrooms, and insects he discovered on the trails, proudly showed us the nature crafts he made to celebrate the changing seasons and holidays, and loved helping care for the community garden. Some of his favorite memories were the simplest ones...relaxing in the hammock, splashing through puddles during rainy days, climbing, exploring, and just having the freedom to be a kid. One thing that always stood out to me was how prepared and inclusive the school is. Rainy days weren't something to avoid, they were something to celebrate. They have a shared collection of rain gear available for every child, so everyone gets to experience the joy of playing outside together, no matter what they own at home. It's such a thoughtful example of the caring, community-minded culture they've created. That same sense of community extends beyond the school day. The seasonal celebrations, family gatherings, and community events gave us so many opportunities to connect with other families and created friendships that we'll carry with us long after preschool. Most of all, the teachers truly know and love each child. They notice the little things, celebrate each child's unique personality, and make every family feel welcomed and supported. You can feel how much they care. As our son gets ready for kindergarten, we're leaving with so much gratitude. These past 2.5 years have given him a deep love of nature, confidence in himself, lasting friendships, and countless joyful memories. We will always be thankful this was where his childhood began.

Bright Horizons is truly a family oriented and family friendly center. Parents are treated as partners, and they do an incredible job keeping families involved. We toured this facility and there is no way I would send my child here…read more The classrooms are a big box, no fresh air, no windows, no sunlight, and the smell ... I know every preschool and daycare has sick kids but this place just screams germs! They said like 20 kids in the classroom, that's a lot!Maybe it was the timing, the kids were just waking up, but they just looked depressed & unhappy. The outdoor space is across the parking lot which seems very unsafe for toddlers and it had no toys to play with. They are very proud of their chef who cooks vegan meals... but even that seems depressing after seeing and smelling the interior of this building. I highly recommend searching around for a better preschool where your child will be happy, get some vitamin d and fresh air!
