Considering it is TX, the wines are not bad, except for a white called "Steen", which is a blend of unknown grapes and had an aroma of gasoline. Their process for tasting fees is quite cumbersome...there are 4 or 5 different fee categories based on the price per bottle of the wines you choose to taste...so they have to calculate your tasting fee after you have finished...also, there was no discount for guests who were staying at their on-site B n B...very non-customer friendly. Our hostess told us we were not tasting in the proper manner...we are from CA, have tasted at 50+ wineries in Napa/Sonoma, and I have worked at a CA winery...very non-customer friendly. Omg we hadn't even been to a vineyard and oh my is the bar set sooooo high. Starting with Emily in the spirits bar. Wow, she was so knowledgeable and personable. She took the time to talk with us, find out my boyfriends likes and dislikes, recommended drinks, and made sure he had an amazing birthday! Emily, if you're reading this, I appreciate the happy birthday momento on the sticker, it means a lot! Then we went to the winery...I cannot for the life of me remember the sweet girls name with the long straight dark blond or brown hair but she was so kind and friendly. Gave us grapes, chocolates and a special birthday gift. She was patient and gave us tastings, laughed with us, and learned about catching our sarcastic humor! The restaurant at the Kiepersol Estate Vineyard certainly earns a five star rating. Entering the restaurant, there is a massive, well-stocked bar, built of hardwood and reminiscent of those frequented by Ernest Hemingway. The restaurant seating area is to the side of the bar with a lovely outside view of the gardens and a wall back of the bar with thousands of bottles of Kiepersol processed wine. Dinner reservations were easily made and our well situated table included a handwritten card congratulating us on our 63rd wedding anniversary. The menu is extensive. My wife had baked brie as an appetizer, a house salad, crab cakes and creme Brûlée for dessert. I had fried wraps of shredded duck as an appetizer, the house, salad, and ribeye steak. Love love love this vineyard. I went on a stormy day but I can imagine that any other it would be gorgeous! The estate is family owned, started by a wine maker originally from South Africa. The wines are great! With great options for the tasting which occurs in this small cute tasting space. You can also buy bottles which are VeRY reasonably priced and sit on their gorgeous terrace with and look over their beautiful vines. My favorite were the bourbon barrel aged wine--- they were very rich, caramel forward yet deep and complex. They also have cheese plates if you want some companions for your wine! If you can spare a few minutes to drive out 20 minute while in Tyler, totally worth stopping by! The staff is super friendly and helpful! read more

Visited on a Saturday afternoon to drink some wine and relax. The winery itself is hard to find, we accidentally walked into the distillery first and were greeted rudely and then still not given clear directions. Thankfully, we found the wine tasting room. All of the wines we tried were incredible and it was wonderful looking over the vineyard. With some better signage, greeters, and food options in the tasting room, this place could easily be a 5-star spot. read more

All I can say is WOW! My wife and I came to Tyler for a weekend get away with this tour in mind. It did not disappoint! We are both educators so we do not normally do things like this because it's not what money conscious people do. But the price for the tour was reasonable and it included 3 wine tastings at the end. The tour guide was a wonderful story teller revealing the wonderful history behind the people who built this gorgeous facility. The tour is all inclusive. You get to see everything from their distillery, how the bourbon and vodka are made, stored and taste. You get to see where the wine is processed and stored in barrels. It was a great tour and worth every cent. The only hiccup was when we went to the distillery to wait for the tour, the worker was what I feel as deceptive. She offered my wife and I a cocktail as if it were part of the tour then I was surprised to find we had to pay for the drinks. She should have just stated if we wanted a cocktail while we waited. Nevertheless, the cocktails were damn good. Best White Russian I have ever had. read more

Had a date night here while visiting family in East Texas and it will become a staple when we go back! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the ambiance is perfect for a date night! The service was also excellent, attentive without being overly suffocating. Everything was delicious without being overly rich or heavy. We started with the Brussel sprouts, they had the perfect amount of char, sweet, and salt. Next, we had the filet mignon and lobster tail. Each entree was cooked to perfection and focused on the meat even though the potatoes and vegetables were delicious, we couldn't get enough of the main dish! Lastly, we finished with the Bananas Foster; this is my favorite dessert and I order it at every restaurant that I can. I will say, this is the best Bananas Foster I have ever had!! It was the perfect amount of sweetness, it can go too sweet very quickly, and not over sautéed, can taste a bit burnt quickly. I can't wait to visit again! read more

We have now tried this restaurant 2x in about a 30 day span and the food is just not worth the high price. At first we thought ordering the Sea Bass and the Lamb just weren't what it specialized in. Fish was fishy and I could not eat it. lamb was over done and scorched. Wine tasting did not yield any favorites. Second time we thought we would just order beef. we ordered a petite filet and a ribeye. I requested a Caesar salad in lieu of a potato and the filet was good but the salad was a small size. No other vegetables except 2 slices of carrots I presume for garnish. The steaks were served dry, no Demi glaze or other sauces. I guess those are extra. The steaks were served medium rare as requested though and had good flavor. A sauce would have really made each special however. The duck cigars were good. So, although steaks appears to be the specialty here they were not $110 ($66 for a ribeye!) good. Two glasses of wine are $28 here. We found the wine not to be bold enough. I have been to the tasting room several times but this was my first dining experience. 3 of us went for lunch today. I had the filet sandwich and the others had the chicken. We all enjoyed our meal and the service. Nicki was an excellent server. She made our Cherries Jubilee table side. It was Fantastic. The ice cream served alongside was obviously homemade. This is a great place to visit for wine tasting. Their wines are a broad collection of reds and whites. All are tasty, though of course some are better than others. The added attraction is the distillery, where they produce a vodka, two rums and a tasty bourbon. The vodka is wine based and very smooth. The bourbon is a 71% corn mash, making it very smooth. Try the cocktails. The bacon, bourbon and maple old fashion is...well it should be for breakfast. All in all, good people and good spirits. read more

My girlfriend and I went to the restaurant tonight and I can't say enough about it. We each had the warm white bread with olive tapenade, a Caesar salad, a 6oz filet with garlic mashed potatoes, and the signature made-from-scratch chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream. We also had a bottle of the moscato. Not to be dramatic, but piece for piece, this may be one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Wow! This was my first time here for our anniversary. First of all the service is spot on. We started off with bread. We ordered duck cigars for are appetizer and they were great. I ordered the salmon with veggies and garlic mash. My husband ordered New York strip. My salmon was incredible. My husband said it was the best steak he has ever had. We had the lava cake for dessertS OMG do not skip dessert. First of all the ice cream was the best I have ever eaten. I want to go back just for the ice cream. The Lava cake was choclatey, warm, delish. Expect to spend over $100 and much more if you drink. It is worth it! They do have a dress code which is nice in my opinion. read more

This is one of our go-to wineries that we visit every year when visiting family in Athens, TX. Normally I would give it 5 starts but our recent visit was not our favorite, especially for my wife. Our routine is to get a bottle of wine and sandwiches to enjoy on their beautiful patio overlooking the vineyard. Really, this was not big deal, but they didn't have sandwiches this time. My wife sorta got into it with the staff, I think mostly because the staff person kept saying things like, "the menu is subject to change", "We had a busy weekend", "We've only been open 30 minutes". The staff person was getting triggered by my wife's questions, and my wife was getting triggered by the staff person's all-over-the-place excuses. I did notice she stated the menu is subject to change more than twice. The other staff were great and we'll be back for sure. But, if you're looking forward to their yummy sandwiches, you might want to call ahead of time. Also, the bees/yellow jackets were so bad we could hardly enjoy the patio! As the designated driver, I will review my point of view. The place is drop dead gorgeous. My wife and her girlfriend absolutely enjoyed their wines and Vodka. There is also a large sand play area for the kids that's somewhat shaded. The staff was attentive. Our son enjoyed the aforementioned play area as well as chasing the Guinea Hens that kept eluding him. I can't rave enough about this place. It seems like a well-kept secret, or maybe it's just me wanting it not to too commercial and crazy-busy. The whole experience we had was terrific - even getting to the vineyard through the lush, gated subdivision was lovely. The restaurant was so warm and inviting, which lead to one of the best meals I've had in a long time accompanied, of course, by delicious wine - all served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Myself and a few friends decided to do a wine tour of the East Texas area, which has quite a number of wineries. Kiepersol Estate Vineyard is probably okay for the yuppie types in the area surrounding Tyler (I am not one of them). Right away I noticed that their selection was pre-detemined at either 3 wines or 5 -- I got the selection of the 3 'finest' reeserve wines and sampled the wife's selection also. Maybe they won major awards (I didn't notice) but who could tell. Normally wine tenders will serve up water, lemon, or dry crackers to cleanse the various palettes during a tasting. The crew at Kiespersol offere what looked like salad croutons to cleanse the palette -- and my guess is they were , since they were salted and had a definite air of parmesan and garlic mixed in. Clearly these people have a very shaddowy idea of what a tasting is supposed to be. In the end, the four of us didn't find any wine worth ordering or taking home. I found much better service and accomodation at the smaller wineries around East Texas. I talked with a number of sommeliers in the area and they agree it's tough to produce a good wine that will sell in this area -- mainly because this area has a taste for very sweet wines. So we will keep looking for a good winery -- and many of them do produce a quality product -- but I didn't find that at the yuppified overpriced Kierspersol winery. My money is better spent elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately the website does not state you need reservations, only states that you need one if you have a party of 6 or more, and must use a credit card to do so. My husband and I checked the website prior to making the trip out there to be sure, arrived at 5:30PM, and was told we needed reservations. We were invited to sit at the bar, which we appreciated that offer, but as it was a birthday dinner we would have missed out on the service and atmosphere if we'd have done so. We were then told if we did not want to sit in the bar it would be awhile before we could be seated. We thought, ok, we'll wait, but when asked how long "awhile" was, we were told, " a few hours", wow! No thanks. It was a Saturday early evening, so understand it would have been getting busy, but really would have appreciated reservations a MUST stated on their website. read more
