Just brought a car to the island about a month ago from the mainland. It's had the service check light for awhile now and a weird sound coming from what it seemed like the dashboard. Got an appointment 2 weeks in advance and John helped me out. They're one of the best mechanics I've been to so far. It was very affordable and it got all fixed up in a day! My car had a "stroke" on a Tuesday afternoon. After trying to find someone who could and would work on my car we found John. I have AAA and that saved me but finding a place who had the time to work on it was a problem. John never hesitated. Even though he was swamped and truly did not have a lot of space to store my car... he took in Da Princess and on Thursday afternoon called me to say "come and get her". I needed an oil change. I wanted to find someone in Kihei, versus going to Kahului all the time. Thanks to Yelp! I was able to find a great place --- right down the street from my house! So grateful to find a local automotive shop that is friendly, professional and upfront about costs. John advised me against certain services (where he could have upsold me but didn't) because I didn't need them. He greeted me with a smile, chatted nicely as he presented the bill, explained it to me, and added he didn't notice anything that needed attention at the moment, and he would see me again soon. Simple, courteous, fast, reasonably priced. My only gripe is that they are a bit hard to find - the first time. They are the LAST building, waaaayyy off Ohukai. Looking for an honest mechanic? Look no further, John and his team at Kihei Automotive are the best. Another shop told me that I needed a wheel bearing, and that my belts where fine. I looked at the belts and they where not ok, and John and his team thought the same. I scheduled an appointment to perform both repairs and got a call shortly after dropping my vehicle off that the wheel bearing was not needing to be replaced. This was shocking to me that a shop would call me and opt. out of a $500 job. But you know what it did? Made me a customer for life. Friends, this is the spot for car maintenance in Kihei. We had actually called these guys twice before, once when trying to have our safety inspection done and once when the battery in our car died. They no longer do safety inspections, but were able to refer us to someone right around the corner who took care of that for us. When it came to the dead battery, they took the time to help us troubleshoot the issue over the phone before referring us to a roadside repair guy who ended up helping us out. Since they were so helpful when we had called them (despite us paying $0 for their help), we felt Kihei Automotive definitely deserved a try for our next oil change. The folks here are just as nice in person as they are over the phone. John at the desk was super friendly. He's laid back and fun to chat with, but also keeps his mind on the work that they're doing for you and keeps you informed. They even got my car done a little early and at a price I will have no problem paying again. Now Kihei Automotive is simply my go-to for everything related to my car. If they can do the work, I feel confident they'll take care of everything. If it's work they don't do, I know I'll at least get any help they can provide over the phone and some good recommendations. (And they're easier to find than Google Maps led me to believe. If you turn on to Ohukai from the highway, Kahakulani Place is your second right. Kahakulani is a dead end road that basically ends at Kihei Automotive. It can be tough finding businesses in this area since they're so densely packed and the signage is awful. Instead of hunting for signage, just turn on to Kahakulani off of Ohukai and drive to the end of Kahakulani.) read more
