Nothing spectacular. The barista at the register had a really hard time understanding my order, an iced coconut latte with almond milk. Coconut syrup is on their menu so I thought that the order would be fairly straightforward. He kept asking me whether I wanted almond syrup, which is not even on their menu. The menu is also very confusing. When you walk in the large menu above the register only has three things listed, tea, latte and one other beverage that I can't remember. They have a separate small chalk board on another wall that lists syrups and milk options. That is all. Customers are left to assume that they will make most classic espresso and coffee drinks. When my drink finally came out it was nothing special. I would not see myself coming here again. read more

This was a cute, very minimalist coffee shop in Hilo we tried one morning. The barista was really friendly and we chatted about our visit and he gave us recommendations for areas of the island to visit. Our coffee was good and we tried honey lattes which were made from fresh honey. This is a solid choice for coffee if you are in Hilo. read more

Food was so delicious and fresh!! The avocado rolls were amazing!!! The service was exceptional!! everyone was hospitable and very nice.

I asked the barista if they had hot drip coffee before I ordered, she said they do. My order came at room temperature, that's a complete failure. I then told her about my hot coffee being room temp. She offered to warm it up for me, I just gave her a confused look, to me reheating coffee is sacrilege. I guess she got the hint and offered to make me an Americano, I accepted. Coffee was good but Real coffee shops should never say they have hot coffee then serve room temperature coffee then offer to reheat the coffee, that's not a real coffee shop move. read more

I don't usually post reviews with one star but the service is so bad that I feel like perhaps I can help to alert the owner. The barista was playing music super loud and we asked if he could turn it down or we need to go elsewhere as we are working on our computers. He turned it down for one song and then blasted music again. We told him a second time and it's the same. If this were to be a club, it'd be enjoyable. Coffee is on the weak side too. Pity really. The place has beautiful wood seating and has a minimalist but cosy vibe. Also perhaps the wifi could be shared on a card displayed on the table instead of having the unfriendly and uninterested barista shouting it out from behind the barista counter while we sat at our table. Yep, he was not interested to help us. Did I say we were the only 2 customers? We were here on 8 April 10am. And then now he's starting to sing. Seriously, you need to look at this, Owner. read more

This was my first time trying Kīlauea Coffee. As soon as we walked in the man working had the music blasting. He stood directly under the menu staring at me the whole time and started laughing at me for no apparent reason. He ended up making me the wrong drink because he couldn't hear me over the music. After we ordered he turned up the music even more to the point where I couldn't even hear my boyfriend who was sitting right next to me. My boyfriend ordered the chai latte and it was horrible. There was so much powder on the top and it was so chunky and gooey on the bottom of the cup. My vanilla latte tasted like really watered down coffee... Incredibly rude, unprofessional and unsanitary place. Trust me and don't go here. The guy working there was clearly high and hated his job. I ordered a matcha latte, but he made me a mocha instead. He grabbed the ice with his bare hands, which I didn't see him wash before. When I said I wanted a matcha, he got annoyed and was like "oh the green shit? So just the matcha with oat milk then?" Like he never made a matcha before. At that point I just wanted to leave, so I asked politely if I could just get a refund, since I had already paid. He told me no. I also saw him grabbing cows milk, even though I said "oat milk" multiple times. I left the store, having paid over $7 for nothing but a bad experience. The owner of a boutique nearby told me that this coffee place is well known for rude staff and terrible customer service. read more

I'm pretty sure I encountered the owner when I went there. How do I know? So damn cocky and extremely condescending. The decor and just the paint seems so dreadful and so monotone it brings the mood down. They take so much pride in their products but not so much in their attitude. If anyone is reading this you're honestly better going to "Puna Chocolate Company Cafe" instead. I've compared Cafe Lattes, Mochas, Espressos, etc. from them to this place and Puna Chocolate has the upper hand.
