From the moment we walked in, we had a wonderful experience. The cashier was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, offering great recommendations when we asked. I also appreciated that she mentioned they have smoothies after my kids asked for one, I hadn't even realized they offered them! The food was absolutely amazing. The beet salad was delicious, and the seared tuna on top was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right--tender without being too firm. The fish burger was also outstanding, and the bánh mì was just as delicious. We had an amazing vegan dish here for our little brunch we did in mid morning earlier today. We saw this restaurant yesterday when we were browsing Hilo a few nights ago. We didn't think of anything when we saw it the first time. By just looking at the name of it though, my immediate reaction was, "Is this a kombuchas bar??" Well, it is but it's not just kombuchas they serve; it's more than that. The breakfast/brunch dishes they serve (although they don't have a huge selection) are quite diverse. I do incorporate a lot of vegetarian/vegan diet into my daily meal routine so when I saw the Verdant Vegan I simply couldn't skip it. As my daughter and I usually split a plate when we dine together she agreed to this option of mine. Glad we did. This plate has all sorts of goodness included in it. Sautéed veggies, house-made lentil walnut chorizo, ginger beet kraut, fire-roasted jalapeno cashew crema, fire-roasted tomato salsa, and it's topped it off with sprouts. This whole thing comes with either purple sweet potato home fries or red rice (which we went with the purple sweet potato fries and ended up getting a side red rice. We also got the side kimchi and one egg sunny side up.) And we shared a 16oz Ceremonial Matcha latte as well. This vegan plate is way more than vegan. It's mighty as hell. For those who are still not sure about vegan options will definitely second guess it for something that isn't vegan/vegetarian. It's truly nutrition packed in so many different ways. If I lived close to this cafe, I would eat here once a week to enjoy this delightful meal. I am not kidding. I enjoyed the matcha latte very much although my daughter rated it as "okay". She likes her matcha in a very particular way so it unfortunately didn't impress her. This is not to say that she disliked it. She said it wasn't bad either. This place is a "walk in, order upfront, pick a table where you want to sit and one of the staff will bring your food to you" style cafe. Water is self-served. Once you are done with your meal you'll put your dirty dishes in the designated tub. I like this efficient style of serving food. This place has great vibes as well. A bit hippie-ish where bright dark colors such as purple and red are incorporated into the interior. There is even a stage where bands perform on certain days/times. Quite cool-looking. If you are visiting Hilo soon then put this place on your "must visit" restaurant list. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quality food will entertain you for sure. read more

We got there at 10:45 - breakfast ends at 11. I got the grilled fish omelette; it was fresh and flavorful! I loved the purple sweet potatoes on the side and pineapple salsa as well. It was bright and well balanced. They did however run out of GF bread. My boyfriend got the breakfast Sammy, it was a large portion, lots of pesto and kimchi on it. I fell in love with Big Island Booch from the six-pack I purchased at Costco, and I knew I had to come try it at its source. It is truly a booch lover's paradise. I will never forget the root booch, an almost unholy but scintillating combination of two of my favorite beverages of all time. What surprised me was the quality of the food. When I say, get the kombucha flight, don't think twice! We got all eight tasters and wow! Top three: root beer, ginger and honey (seasonal)! Don't stop there. Order the hummus! It's fresh! The Booch Bar - Delicious Food, Great Kombucha, and Chill Vibes The Booch Bar in Hilo is a gem. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt inviting and relaxed. The space was clean and had great energy, with a mix of modern touches and funky, expressive art. They also had a cool selection of merch available if you're into that sort of thing. Kombucha Flight As a big fan of kombucha, this place was perfect for me. They offered several options on tap, and we went with a flight so we could try a few. The bartender/server was incredibly thoughtful and took the time to guide us through the flavors, helping us choose a nice variety. We ended up trying the root beer, lilikoi hibiscus, and ginger kombuchas. The root beer and ginger were standouts -- bold, flavorful, and refreshing. The lilikoi hibiscus was much lighter in flavor, as expected, but still enjoyable. I appreciated being able to try a range of flavor profiles in one go. Food We ordered the cheeseburger and the fish burger. The cheeseburger was excellent -- juicy, flavorful, and satisfying. Easily one of the best I've had. My only small critique is that it was a bit too big, which made it hard to eat without making a mess. Personally, I prefer burgers that are more manageable in size, but flavor-wise, it was spot on. The fish burger was also fantastic. Perfectly cooked, balanced, and served in just the right portion. My fiancée really enjoyed it, and I'd absolutely recommend it. Other Notes The place felt clean, including the bathrooms, which is always a plus. The artwork was a bit quirky and not totally my style -- think chakras and interpretive dance -- but hey, art is subjective. If that's your vibe, you'll love it. This place has good recommendations, but I was not impressed with the food or drink. I had ordered the fish tacos and they were so bland! This is pretty much a self serve place, the only thing they do here is take your order, then deliver it to you. You have to get your own silverware, condiments, water and even salt and pepper. For the price, not worth it. I also ordered a Mai tai, but when it came it looked and tasted like a margarita. I asked 2 different people and they both said it was a Mai tai. Not any I've ever had. The Denver omelette I got was just dry and bland. 20 dollar breakfast and I would prefer a quicker cheaper breakfast omelette from anywhere else. We enjoyed this place so much we went there three times: twice for breakfast and once for their house-made vegan gelato. The food is local, fresh, and prepared well in interesting ways. They have an abundance gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options as well as the house-made kombucha. Service was friendly and prompt. The decor is pleasing: bright and featuring local art but not overwhelming. I just wish we were on the island longer so I could have tried their lunches and dinners! Open mic night on 7/22/26. The girl that ran the open mic tonight needs to stick to the list. Let me explain. The left side of the list was numbered 1 to 10. My Mr. was number 10. The right side of the list that says "Maybe" was numbered 11 and so on. It was number 9 turn, the girl had her friend that came in late and whom signed on The right side of the list that says "Maybe" go before number 9, and She even sang with her friend. Number 9 finally went on and they sang about 3 songs. Then my Mr. Supposed to go next, but guess what happened. The girl let another person whom signed on The right side of the list that says "Maybe" go before my Mr. We walked out, because why have a list for sign up and you get to decide who goes. That's F up. Mind you We were there from 6pm. We ate, enjoy all the different genre of music. I want to add that the F up part is that girl let certain people play long and others were cut short. Poor thing there was another person who was on that right side but I believe he may not have the chance, since it was almost 9pm. I told him maybe he can take my Mr. place. The Booch Bar was a hidden surprise for my husband and I when we were visiting Hilo. We've removed alcohol from our diet so we were excited to see kombucha mocktails offered here. During our visit we ordered the Blackened Fish Omlette, which was very flavorful, and also tried a couple of the mocktails (Cool as Cucumber & Passionate Bliss) which gave a refreshing start to our day.
