Lots of open parking fronting the building. We went around 10am and there was only one other customer in there. Most of the dessert stands and the glass case were empty. A condiment, utensil, napkin, and water station is positioned on the side against the wall. The water container's ice had melted away. Little condensation remained outside the jug. My husband asked the woman at the counter is they were making any more new donuts in the back. She said yes, walked to the back, and returned with a tray filled with a variety of donuts. I got s'mores flavor and he got a couple strawberry ones and something else. Unfortunately, I didn't love my donut. The glaze was too sweet for my liking and I'd prefer the graham crackers to be crumbed rather than big chunks. The chunk texture competed with the softness of the donut. The woman said the best time to come is at 5:30 am, when they have the full spread of options.
Got breakfast here during my stay in Hilo and I loved it! My husband and I shared the Breakfast Popover - it had so much flavor, we loved it! It was pretty big if you're not a huge breakfast eater, I would recommend splitting it. We also tried their puffs which were perfectly baked. The restaurant itself had a lot of seating available and restrooms as well. There was also a lot of parking. Would definitely come back!
The popover with Lilikoi butter was very good. The popover was light & airy and the lilikoi butter was sweet and paired well with the popover. The ube scone, which was nearly $5, was wildly dry and honestly tasted like it had been baked 2 or 3 days prior to sale.
The selection of pastries was fantastic-hard to choose, for sure! We were glad to share a breakfast sandwich popover, no way I could have finished one by myself. Friendly service, and plenty of seating inside & outside. Typical breakfast place ambiance!

If you're ever looking for a great place to grab a bite and a sweet treat, you should definitely stop by popover. The workers are always so friendly and helpful when I'm unsure what to get. I got the bbq chicken flatbread and it was HUGE. I could only eat a third of it and was stuffed! We also got a breakfast popover, which was also sooo ono and sooo filling! We went closer to closing time so the selection for desserts wasn't as full as usual, but we were still able to get a few pastries and cookies to-go.

I needed a box of little pastry puffs for a client meeting and came back an hour later to get more for myself. The mango and chocolate ones were my favorites - just little snack sized pieces of fluffy heaven. I promise you- you will not be disappointed!!
Popover is a cafe nestled in what looks like a pretty industrial area. I almost mistook it for a car parts store, based on the facade. But Yelp had some great reviews, so off I went. First, the service is lovely, and I'm a huge fan of locally owned businesses! You can tell they care about their shop. I do wish I could give it a higher rating, but for me, the experience was just not what I was hoping for. The coffee was off, and especially since I've had amazing coffee my entire time so far in Hawaii, I was pretty disappointed by this brew. And then my pastry was also nothing to write home about. It tasted like any other brownie I've had, didn't stand out in any way, even with the macadamia nuts. The space itself was set up in an odd way, with two service stations flanking either side of the central seating area. It's also not the cleanest, overall. Sort of bracing its industrial setting, perhaps.
Great place for breakfast or lunch. Coffee and donuts were great! Bought a dozen for the Soldiers....and it gets their seal of approval! Definitely stop by and grab a bite

This little place looks just ok from the outside but don't be fooled it's amazing! We had the breakfast popovers and they were huge! I wish I had gotten donuts to go too because they were very unique and looked tasty.

Variable food quality. Some of the doughnuts were okay, the flatbread was pretty good, and the popovers were fine. Most of their "puffs" had quite artificial fillings, and I'd rather attempt eating a rock than one of their scones again. Service is an absolute mess. We ordered pickup via DoorDash and I'm convinced we were the first people to ever do that, because the employees were so confused by the entire concept. Overall, I don't think I'd recommend and we definitely had better breakfasts in Hilo. read more

My husband and I shared: - Turkey, Cranberry, and Cream Cheese Popover Sandwich - Pastrami Popover Sandwich - Ube Donut - Lilikoi Butter Mochi Both sandwiches were fantastic. I love popovers and it's such a great idea to turn them into a sandwich. I think I had a slight preference for the turkey one, but you can't go wrong with either. The desserts were a little disappointing. The donut was dry and the butter mochi was just ok. If you're in Hilo, come here for lunch! read more

Wow! So good! Something interesting about Hawaii is they don't care for too much about the aesthetic and interior design. Upon walking in, you see a mom and pops with a weird table layout of their baked goods. But actually eating it is such a different story! Great value for lots of yummy breakfast read more

Nicest people. Sorry only bought one popover that came with delicious lilikoi butter (so addicting). I would have bought more but traveling in a heated car is no fun. The purple yam scone was tempting, as was the lilikoi mochi. read more
Pop*on *over...to POPOVER in Hilo! A local family run business that creates cute and unique donut flavors. Not only do they have donuts, they have other baked sweets, coffee and sandwich items, too. We picked out half a dozen donuts to take home and enjoy. We chose the following : *Lilikoi + Coconut- light and airy with a nice blend of a sweet tarty coco nutty flavor. I enjoyed this donut! *Maple + Bacon- sweet and savory. Bacon sprinkles were generously topped on the donut with a chewy texture. *Cookies + Cream-niece's favorite and her go to *Vanilla + Sprinkles- colorful and yummy! *Pink D'oh-pretty in pink, but a little too sweet for my palate Check them out if you are hungry for donuts! read more

You might want to literally POPOVER to Popover in Hilo. While it is a bit expensive, it is an excellent place to eat for breakfast and lunch. Well isn't everything expensive in the Big Island??! Pineapple Apple turnover at $3.50 was crispy and hit the spot. They had several other pastries that I will try next time. Highlight was the ABC sandwich $10 as recommended by our cashier. It was really delicious with crunchy croissant/French bread hybrid. The Pesto was creamy and perfectly complimented the Turkey. I'm usually not a sandwich person for breakfast but would totally have it again. Fried rice with egg $10 was good. My partner felt like it needed something extra. Also this was pre made so it wasn't freshly made. Basically it was sitting under a warmer in a plastic package. Final analysis: Popover for the sandwiches and the pastries! read more

I highly recommend the Coconut Puff. I'd get it again in a heartbeat. The Mango one was also super tasty. The breakfast popover was very yummy. The eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The popover still had that eggy soft texture inside, perfect! The chipotle sauce, or whatever it was, is fantastic. The vanilla latte (didn't last for a photo) was spot on. All in all this place is great. Delicious and tasty food! The staff who helped us, tall, young, blonde was super sweet and helpful. read more

I thought the donuts were really good. I only took a star off because I prefer when they are a little warm. Would be nice if they were under a warming lamp maybe or baked fresh, for the high price. I really loved how they didn't taste overly fried though. They left my stomach feeling happy as if they were baked or gluten free. I am guessing the ingredients are of great quality for this reason and justifies the price. The strawberry and lillikoi were actually very sweet, and my favorite was the animal cracker because the glaze was just the right hint of sweet. The pour over coffee was a bit bitter to me, but still did the job. The atmosphere was a bit basic cafe style, but I appreciated plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, along with clean bathrooms. Huge fan of Popover! We always make it a point to stop by every time we're in Hilo. We came by after an earlier flight in, straight from the airport. Parking is a breeze since they have free parking right out front. They have some outdoor tables as well as a lot of tables inside. The cashier ordering area has a huge selection of donuts & pastries & other fun items. We only got 1 popover sandwich to share this time. The popovers are HUGE and filled with so much stuff! We got the breakfast one - scrambled egg, Portuguese sausage, potato & spicy Mayo. I love the texture of the bread itself - light & airy but still a little chewy. If ever in hilo area, give them a visit! read more

Yummy variety of freshly baked goods - donuts, scones, sandwiches, flatbreads, puffs, and coffee! The turkey popover was a good size and everything was delicious. Popover opens early at 5:30 and closes at 2. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. You can also a skip the wait and order online through their website. read more
Wow! Gorgeous and delicious pastries here at Popover. I really wanted to try everything because it all looked soooooo good! My Lilikoi coconut donut was amazing and the mango puff was one of the best pastries I've ever had. I also had a lovely matcha latte. I really loved this place. Just be prepared to wait a little bit for drinks and sandwiches. My husband had a popover sandwich with eggs, bacon, and potatoes which was really scrumptious (the sauce on top was amazing) but we did wait about 15 minutes for it to be ready. Great place to stop for some delicious breakfast! read more

I went to Popover twice. The first time I went, I forgot my wallet and a tiny part of me wondered if they had Apple Pay..... But I drove home and got my wallet and went back. Not to worry!!!! This place has everything you might want from a bakery. Lots of parking, lots of space inside, lots of tech - yes, wireless pay, QR code for remote ordering, coffee, baked goodies, donuts, outside seating .... literally everything. The popovers are very good and they give you lilikoi jam with it. The donuts are fantastic. Easy choice for a bakery. GREAT! read more

Love the Popover Breakfast Sandwich because there isn't so much bread. Popovers are light and very airy. I had to try it since I never heard of a popover sandwich. Definitely a great idea since it hold everything inside. It's a great idea. They have specialty donuts as well. I'm so glad to see so many varieties on the menu. I love that the culinary experience in the Big Island is expanding. So many new places with different experiences to be had. I'm glad to see these places still open after everyone experiencing 2020. I love supporting local on the Big Island not just in Oahu. Returning for breakfast next time I return for work. read more
