Lilikoi bar & a half order Greek salad
    C P.

I had a quick work day in Hilo & one of our culinary graduates is a cook at Short n Sweet so I thought it was the perfect time to get some nourishment & stop in for a visit. It's a cute little spot that has samples (yum) out I'm pretty sure throughout the day, you can order & eat outside however I ate on my way to my next location. Salad hit the spot exactly what I needed after a day of snacking on dill pickle Lays & lemon peel. It was very refreshing & the lilikoi bar just an explosion of delishisness in my mouth. Washed it all down with a carton of H2O. Outstanding customer service & an awesome kitchen staff.

The food quality is good, but the place is expensive. A cake-y bagel with lox for $16, where you get exactly one thin slice lox on each half of bagel, with a thin smear of cream cheese..... even by Manhattan standards this is a ripoff

Looking for a quick breakfast option, and this spot fit the bill so we paid a quick visit! I got the breakfast bowl, carrot cake mini loaf, and lilikoi bar! I will say pricing seems higher than average. The breakfast bowl was...decent. It's kinda a small portion and not superrrr appealing in a small takeout container. But I will say, the actual food was hot and tasty! Eggs were a soft texture, potatoes were nice and soft. Ham mixed throughout. Desserts were much more memorable. Not overwhelmingly sweet, both had a nice texture, and they tasted GREAT. I'd personally recommend coming here for desserts, rather than the entrees. Still great! PROS: - parking is easy, location easy to find - staff are friendly - desserts are not too sweet, have good texture, and taste great CONS: - pricing is higher than average - breakfast bowl is kinda small portion and not too appealing

This was recommended to me by another foodie who was sitting next to us also waiting patiently for food at a very popular eatery in Pahoa. I was impressed to find the interesting selection of fancy pastries at this cute bakery/ cafe located in Hilo Shopping Center. You can also get breakfast and lunch. April the foodie recommended a "white dessert" and thanks to other Yelpers I was able to deduce it was the Silvana. A layered pastry with cream on top and an interesting layer of sticky nutty goodness in the middle. It was very good but a bit too creamy and buttery for my lactose intolerant self. The Hilo bar was like a rich, flat blond brownie chucked full of macadamia nuts and bits of coconut. Also yummy! But the star for me and my mom was the Kona bar (?), a divine bar of rich dark chocolate with little bits of crunch that add a nice contrast in texture! Winner!!

I made this image for the custom cake I was going to order! Awesome they can do edible prints!

This bakery I wanted to order my son's birthday cake and we all sadly got sick and then our vehicle is currently not working so we had to cancel his party and make a cake at home! But when I tell you I cannot stop thinking about this bakery and the birthday cake my husband cold coworker had from this place I am not lying I have never had a better cake! I did go in and had the best experience from Koa and even got to meet the baker the legend herself Donna! The ingredients are made in house and are all made with raw ingredients no seed oils or preservatives no harmful toxic yucky artificial coloring! The cake I did experience was a huge heavy thick and delicious cake that was filled with so much flavors and every bite was melt in your mouth mix together hit the taste buds like heaven on earth sends a baby from storks fairy tell experienced from your senses! Like when I tell you I am craving this Carmel layered cake I feel like it was made with addictive additives because I cannot forget this cake!!! It's been months! So go! Also very cool because they can do printable edible images they can custom the cake to your event they can custom the flavor to your pallet and they can bring the theme alive with the size for your party needs! I can't wait to experience this place again! They also do have menu options you can go order bagels and coffee and they have items for order fresh! I was told the cheese cake is one you have to try from a returning customer when I went in!!! I like also add that Donna the baker and I believe the owner was great she took pride and took time to inform me of her work! She took time to listen to my experience with her cake and my son's likes and told me what I should get which I love! Any kind of help I can get in life I will take!!! Also she knew the importance of having no artificial coloring and to have raw ingredients which I as a mom now understand the importance of!!! I can't wait to be able to order a custom cake through this bakery one day! Go support local small business like this one!!!

    proof that we went...

Our bill was over 80.00 for a box of baked goods. We thought it was excessively high, but thought it might be because of the dubai chocolates we bought which were 12.00 each. These chocolates were unremarkable, and the flavor was not what we had thought it would be. we have two left that haven't been touched and it has been 3 days now. The other two I took to a gathering and shared it by cutting it on a cutting board in bitesized pieces. after each person took a bite, no one picked up another piece. Other items still in the box: One chantilly chocolate cream puff. We only ordered 2. the one we tried was dry, flavorless, and seemed to be missing ingredients...namely sugar. it was tasteless and not joyful at all. It was not a puff. it was hard and seemed old. we ordered 2 oreo cookies, and 1.5 cookies are left in the box. Again, it seems like they did not get the recipe right. The flavor is very nothingness and the texture feels grainy and not cooked well though it is cooked all the way through. Sad that we lost so much money, the pricing is wrong and the recipes are off.

My husband and I couldn't decide what to get so we ended up getting a lot: - Banana Roulade - Lilikoi Bar - Roasted Pineapple Bread Pudding - Mac Nut Coffee Cake - Silvana - Hilo Bar - Lilikoi Marshmallows I really enjoyed everything. The Lilikoi Marshmallows were hands down my favorite thing. I could have eaten 10 bags of them by myself. My next two favorites were the Hilo Bar and the Silvana. I'm glad we stumbled upon this place when we were in Hilo.

You order inside and they give you a buzzer when your food is ready to be picked up. The wait was pretty long but we were waiting for 6 total sandwiches. The food was a bit skimpy for what they charge. I was told to come here and that the food was really really good, I felt a bit left down because it was hyped up so much. Maybe if it wasn't as hyped up. Great service, nothing to complain about there. They do have tables and chairs outside which was nice. Not bad but nothing special, give it a try if you want to support local!

Bakery items were alright, salted caramel cupcake a little dense & doesn't taste like caramel. They have items in the cases with no pricing on them. So for each individual item you're not actually sure how much it costs. The girl at the counter didn't even know the prices off hand, she had to look into her register screen. Also, ordered a passion tea & I didn't know you put a small cube of ice and not fill the drink to the top. Or at least make it appear that the drink is full. Not sure I would make a return here and go out of my way. Overheard them tell another customer sorry they're closed. it's like 2pm and your door is open. ‍

Celebratory high-five for our birthday twins after the surprise cake reveal. Thank you! Short N Sweet & Hilo Bay Cafe!

Ordered a cake for a surprise birthday dinner. It was amazing. Looked amazing. Frosting was light. Chantilly was fantastic & went great with the German chocolate. Service was excellent. Walked us thru how to prepare cake for serving. Ambiance of the shop was great. Good energy. Very welcoming & it was hard to leave with just the cake.

Clockwise, from the top: Mac Nut Coffee Cake, Banana Roulade, Lilikoi Bar, Roasted Pineapple Bread Pudding, Hilo Bar, Silvana

At the rate people were buying, this house of flour, water, yeast, and salt would be out of bread in no time. The mushroom was spicier than expected requiring bites of the goat cheese slice to cool the palete. The roasted peppers and basil added extra flavors to the richness of the goat cheese. Both were delicious, large slices of bread, and you should absolutely make a stop here, just make sure they're open. And get there early.
