We went to Killer Tacos before our flight out from Kona. I had two tacos: hard shell fish, and hard shell beef. My wife had the soft shell fish. The hard fish tacos were really good - the fish is fried and crispy with good flavor. I liked the beef too, but the fish stood out more. Also the staff was very welcoming and made sure we had all the salsa fixings for our meal. We will be back on our next trip. read more

Friendly staff serving up large tasty burritos! Just down the street from Ola Brew. (We had intended to eat at Ola, but their kitchen is closed on Mondays.) We seemed to be the only 'tourists'/non locals here which is always a good sign. Do t know if I would say the food is 'killer'; however, we certainly enjoyed our Kailua pork burritos! Not the best. From the photos, you can tell they were going for a quick eats vibe. The way the tacos are dressed is no more involved than a Taco Bell taco. Quality was similar too I would say, except the protein was better. The kaliua pig didn't have too much flavour. It definitely needed an extra sour cream sauce or SOMETHING. This was in more of an industrial area, the girl helping was nothing special. Got fish tacos and you would assume at a taco place they would have lemon or lime but you would be wrong they only have a couple sauces no hot sauce and the beef tacos honestly the best part was the shell, and that's not saying much. Beef tasted very low quality no seasoning. Almost like a wet dog food. Would not recommend unless you're mad at your tongue read more

The food at Killer Tacos is alright overall, but keep in mind that they do not accept credit cards; it's cash only!! They are located just outside of Historic Kailua Village and are also within biking or driving distance of most hotels in the area. I went later in the evening, not too long before they were set to close for the night, but the service was good and relatively quick. Killer Tacos is one of my fave "Taco Go-To's" in Kona. Food is great and the menu simple. When they can remember you by your order...you know they care (or am I just visiting too much?). Lol. Either way, we both win. I love when I go in and Pomai is working...she's such a bundle of joy and it's hard not to walk away feeling invigorated by her good energy while she's simply making my taco and burrito....that's superb service and one of the reasons I keep going back. Seems super popular and busy but I don't really see why. The people working the counter were very friendly and helpful but the food was pretty boring and bland. It wasn't necessarily bad or awful but it wasn't at all "killer" unfortunately. I tried the longboard burrito also and was a decent size and filling but the habenero salsa was barely noticeable and definitely not hot like I expected. The shop is in an industrial looking area and didn't have any seating or outdoor seating either right now. My family and I have been coming to Killer Tacos for years and it never disappoints. This is not a place to go to for authentic Mexican food but as soon as you walk in, you realize that is not what they are trying to do. They are a perfect local eats, fast service type restaurant. The staff is always so friendly and really make you feel at home. They are very on top of COVID cleaning and safety procedures which I appreciate so much. The lunch deal with 2 hard shell tacos and a soda is always my go to but having worked through the menu multiple times, I can confidently say that everything is great! read more

We had lunch here on 1/11/22, based on our guidebook. It was indeed off the beaten path, in a most unlikely industrial park. But do not fear - it was clean inside and everyone was super friendly. A wide and varied menu, with food prepared right in front of you (like a Chipotle but without the rush - because it's Hawaii). Varieties of meats for your tacos or burritos or salads, and the tacos can be your choice if soft shell or crispy. My wife liked them equally. read more

This location is better than the Hale'iwa outpost. The servers are a little more friendly. A bit tough to find, as it's in an industrial area, but don't let that scare you off. The Taco Salad is a massive portion of food. Small crispy tortilla shell, loads of impossibly-thinly-shredded lettuce, salsa, cheese, and your choice of protein (get the kalua pig) spilling out across the tray. The lunch taco deal (2 tacos of your choice and a drink for $5) is a good value. Your choices from bean, pig, beef, or chicken. All are tasty; I usually do one pig, one chicken, plus a side of refried beans. My one complaint is that if the taco-crafters don't drain the scoop of meat, the juices make the tacos soggy and unnecessarily messy. But then I guess you're not going for elegance with tacos. Tried 2 fish tacos. The fish was barely warm, not fresh cooked, which makes a huge difference in taste and texture. They were below good so not something I would recommend. I was really looking forward to eating here but it was disappointing. The kalua pig or the ground beef are other meat choices. They also have veggie choices. Tacos and burritos are your options. Came here after a day at the beach, hungry and ready for some Mexican comfort food. Killer Tacos is tucked away in an industrial center, but inside there is ample seating and a welcoming atmosphere. Lots of locals as well including guys from the surrounding area on their lunch breaks, so walking in we felt that was a good sign... Coming from Southern California, we felt the food was decent, but it did not blow us away. The fish burrito that my husband got was definitely a tasty and filling bang for your buck in terms of sheer size - I would stick with this or perhaps the tacos if you're eating here. My salad on the other hand was primarily a lettuce and cabbage mix with a small smattering of cheap shredded cheddar cheese and fish; the fish was heavily fried and battered as well. For the price ($9ish), in hindsight I would undoubtedly skip the salad and would've ordered my own burrito despite wanting to eat on the light-ish side. At least I'd have half a meal to take home. The guac here is very reasonably priced, but the salsa is quite weak and watered down. Service is very quick and friendly. read more

We arrived after a day on the beach hungry for something wholesome. The cod burrito and taco were pleasant surprises as they were quite tasty since we noticed the fish had been already cooked, ready to serve. What took place this time is simple... I ordered two Kalua pork tacos and they gave me fried fish tacos. When I returned to the counter to politely let them know of the mistake, you could almost taste the resentment in that poor pig. Unwillingly, they remade the order but the second I asked for extra salsa, the James Beard taco chef blurted out, "Charge him $1.50!" You would think that after an order is messed up, they might throw that in but for yours truly, there was no love on this island of paradise. Just not good. Stopped in because of the reviews on Yelp, and figured "hey a nice quick taco lunch after a day of scuba fun? Sure." Boy was that a bad life choice. So let's start with my son's nachos. They literally took some chips dropped a small handful of shredded cheddar and nuked it. We got the super nacho whatever so he could have salsa, then added a side of guacamole. Well as you can imagine when trying to get a chip to dip...the whole thing is welded together with a solid layer of cheddar. So then we had to meticulously RIP the chips apart, tearing through the oily mass on top with weak discount napkins to wipe before enjoying the fruits of our labor. My daughter had fish tacos...she says they were "ok at best" the batter soaked up more oil than our car needs for a change. My wife decided on a fish taco and a pork taco. I would give you her opinion of the fish taco but they gave her two pork, of course I am guessing it was pork simply by the texture and look of the meat, there was zero flavor....none...like unseasoned pork that was cooked in a crockpot for 2 days then soaked in water for a few hours.
