    Birra style pork tacos

We bookmarked Shaka Tacoz as our lunch stop on the drive to Waikoloa. I was super excited to try the Ono Tacos but I actually enjoyed the Birria style pork tacos better. The fish was a little dry. The Birra was flavorful and tender and definitely more filling. There's a few parking spots outside. Lots of seating inside. You order inside at the counter and pick up your order from the food truck outside.

Incredible tacos and you can mix and match different proteins! Every serving comes with 3 fabulous filled tacos with great ingredients. Interesting sauces are available like guava hot pepper (recommend!) and mango chile and chipotle, all super flavorful options. The steak and fish were my favorite proteins, the steak was not chewy at all and the fish was grilled perfectly. Loved all of the pickled toppings. Bonus, you can see the sunset from the patio! Lovely quick stop for dinner at a great price point.

This was a definite pit stop on our way from Hilo to Kona. The restaurant has parking out front and you order inside which has seating available but pick up the food at the outdoor area where they are made. We got the Ono fish tacos and birria style tacos. Both come in 3's. The ono unfortunately was a little dry but flavor was not bad. The birria tacos were flavorful, crunchy and filling. Def recommend the birria tacos. Next time I'm gonna get a quesadilla which also looked amazing. Great restaurant to check out if you're nearby or passing through.

Flavorful tacos, you get 3 per order, and fun side sauces where you can pick 2 per order. There is also an amazing ocean view if you sit outside in the back. We're vegetarian, so we ordered 5 chorizo tacos and one bean and rice taco to try, plus an order of chips and salsa. The salsa was good, we just thought it needed a little more salt and spice for our taste. Such an awesome lunch spot if you are out here visiting or touring Kona coffee farms. You order at the counter and then pick up your food from the food truck parked out front. We parked across the street off the highway, and the lady taking our order was super nice and patient. This ended up being one of our favorite meals of the trip.

Plentiful seating and enough parking right outside and across the street. If you come in the evening, you might get lucky and catch a beautiful sunset. Food was good! These tacos definitely run more of a local fusion than true Mexican tacos down the road. The carnitas tacos were basically kalua pig but still good! Make sure you order inside with the friendly workers and pick up your food outside at the food truck window!

I think this could be one of the best taco places on the big island, however on a scale of tacos in general, not the best. Needed cilantro and probably do more cheese.not a ton of flavor. We got birria tacos and then the original Shaka tacos with pork and chicken. It looked great but just need something more. Also 3 tacos is not filling enough for a meal. Maybe the fish tacos are where they stand out. Ambiance is nice, cool to eat with an ocean view and service was really nice. Cool atmosphere and food came out quickly. Limited parking. Nice stop for a light bite if in the area.

The fish tacos were a bit dry and flavorless for my taste. The mango chili sauce was sweet and tangy with no spice. The shop itself was lovely with a patio in the back overlooking the water.

Stopped in for the venison street tacos, $20 for three, and absolutely worth it. The meat was tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right without being overpowered by the toppings. The place has both indoor and outdoor seating, and I'd recommend grabbing a spot outside if the weather's good bc you get a clear ocean view that adds a lot to the experience. The vibe is relaxed but well-kept, and prices are fair for the quality and the setting. A funny bonus: while enjoying my meal, I could see a pig being groomed down the hill! Not something you see every day, and it somehow fit perfectly with the laid-back, coastal charm of the place. Service was very fast. Overall, great food, decent value, and a memorable setting.

I wasn't impressed. The fish tacos were buried under sauces and slaw, so I could barely taste the fish--though the fish itself was well-seasoned and tasty. Prices felt high for what you get. Overall, very underwhelming flavors for a fish taco. The worst part was the outdoor seating: yes, the views are great, but the patio was crawling with lizards. It almost felt like a theme, and it was distracting enough to kill the appetite.

This place is OK, don't get caught up in the social media hype. I had 4 steak Shaka Originals the taste of the meat by its self is lacking flavor. I'd recommend either cutting the white sauce or the pickled onions because having both just makes the tacos sour. I had the chipotle side salsa and it had a little kick, it was good. Cons, soft taco are made with 2 corn tortillas, but not here unless you pay extra. The other con, well if you have read my reviews before, I hate when an establishment only offers canned soft drinks, it's 2026 we need to move past this. But other then this, tacos were ok mediocre at best. But then again, I am from California, home of the best Mexican food so it's hard to compare.

This was by far.... One of the best, if not the best fish tacos and burritos... that I have ever had The service, was amazing. She was sweet, answered everything that we needed to know. She took her time with us to and didn't rush us to pick. We just got here and can't wait to go back two or 3 times in the week that we are here The burrito. The burrito was by far one of the stupidest burritos that I have ever had. It was full, the sauce that came with it, which was the hottest one they have was phenomenal and probably one of the best sauces that I've had. I would bottle it if I could. This place is a solid 10-10. No question. I'm dying to go back and I left 3 hours ago

Best tacos I've had in a long time! Great spot, easy ordering online and then you can take it outside to eat with a beautiful view of the ocean. The service was also really great and helpful Tried: chicken burrito, steak tacoz Loved: my steak tacos were amazing. Recommend getting the cheesy tortilla and the guava ginger sauce on the side - very unique but perfect with the tacos!

Shaka Tacoz has popped up in a few searches and was a recommendation as a quick bite spot on our way back to Kona from Black Sands beach. The carne asada were nicely seasoned and then topped with a bunch of delicious pickled onions, sauces and shredded lettuce. . The Birria tacos was much less complex but tasted extremely good. The crispy cheese shell paired nicely with the flavorful pork. Cilantro and onions topped the meat and the shell was lightly dusted with a white crumbly cheese. I would highly recommend these two, if you're undecided.

To begin, the greeting from Richard was welcoming, informative, and made us feel like we were visiting long-missed family friends. Once seated, the ambiance was open and comfortable, and of course, the view is beautiful. Our server, CC, was genuinely friendly and efficient despite being the only server on the floor AND shadow training a new server as well. She is skilled managing the floor! Now, as to the food.....I cannot praise it enough. The Brunch menu had a variety of options that made our choices difficult. We opted for the Lilikoi French Toast and it was fabulous. Truly memorable. We also tried the Banana Bread and it was heavenly. We were told that the everything on menu is house made, and I can say that this level of care shows. While we didn't get the chance to try any other menu items, we did watch the Salmon Eggs Benedict being served to several diners near us - it was a beautifully plated dish and we overheard rave reviews. Adding to the comfort was a musician playing guitar and singing beautifully. Frequently, he shared interesting local tidbits and stories about the songs he chose. Our party agreed that returning to Kalikala Cuisine is an absolute MUST when we get back to Kona. A big Hell Ya!

The overall experience felt lively and relaxed, and even the little geckos running along the railing trying to sneak a sip of syrup added a fun, memorable touch. That said, the food didn't live up to the setting. While everything tasted fresh and the presentation (especially the avocado toast) was beautiful, it was surprisingly lacking in flavor. It honestly felt like the island ran out of salt and seasoning--very bland for how fresh it was. Overall, a great place to sit, relax, and soak in the view, but unfortunately the food was the weak point.

My husband ordered the loco moco with coffee, and I ordered the macadamia nut pancakes with POG juice. In hindsight, we probably should've ordered just one dish to share. Portions here are very large, and lately we've learned that ordering less is smarter for us, both to avoid wasting food and money. I completely forgot about that in the moment. The pancakes came as two large pancakes, and I wasn't able to finish them. I kept them simple, no extra toppings. They came with butter and syrup on the table. The pancakes themselves were fine, but a bit dry. They relied a lot on the butter, and I personally didn't love it because it was salted butter, while I prefer regular unsalted butter. Nothing bad, just not something I'd crave again. My husband's loco moco was actually enjoyable overall, but we didn't like the chicken katsu substitution. It was completely soaked in gravy, which made it lose all crunch. If you order loco moco here, I'd recommend sticking with the classic beef patty instead of substituting, since anything breaded will likely lose its texture in the sauce. In the end, we weren't upset, but we also weren't especially impressed. The food was solid, portions were generous, and it felt like a reliable, filling breakfast spot, just not a standout one.
