This place was BOMB! We had fish tacos and a fish burrito, and both were so fresh and delicious. The portion sizes are just right, and the ambiance is super cool. Recommended by Aaliyah at Hala Tree Coffee, we all sat in the car for 15 minutes waiting for it to open. You order and eat inside but pick up your food from a food truck set up outside. There's plenty of seating inside and they also have a patio. It was a Friday so we all ordered the Ono Fish Tacoz. Super tasty as they were topped with lettuce, pickled red inions, balsamic slaw, lime crema and a side of their mango chili sauce. We bookmarked Shaka Tacoz as our lunch stop on the drive to Waikoloa. I was super excited to try the Ono Tacos but I actually enjoyed the Birria style pork tacos better. The fish was a little dry. The Birra was flavorful and tender and definitely more filling. There's a few parking spots outside. Lots of seating inside. Incredible tacos and you can mix and match different proteins! Every serving comes with 3 fabulous filled tacos with great ingredients. Interesting sauces are available like guava hot pepper (recommend!) and mango chile and chipotle, all super flavorful options. The steak and fish were my favorite proteins, the steak was not chewy at all and the fish was grilled perfectly. Loved all of the pickled toppings. Bonus, you can see the sunset from the patio! This was a definite pit stop on our way from Hilo to Kona. The restaurant has parking out front and you order inside which has seating available but pick up the food at the outdoor area where they are made. We got the Ono fish tacos and birria style tacos. Both come in 3's. The ono unfortunately was a little dry but flavor was not bad. The birria tacos were flavorful, crunchy and filling. Def recommend the birria tacos. We're vegetarian, so we ordered 5 chorizo tacos and one bean and rice taco to try, plus an order of chips and salsa. The lava sauce was almost black!! Very good. the lady taking orders were nice and fast. They cook the food in a food truck outside and you get it or the front counter lady brings it in if she has time. I like that you can pick your sauce on some. I think some come with a certain one but maybe you can change it. All the sauces were VERY tasty. And spicy too. This place is OK, don't get caught up in the social media hype. I had 4 steak Shaka Originals the taste of the meat by its self is lacking flavor. I'd recommend either cutting the white sauce or the pickled onions because having both just makes the tacos sour. I had the chipotle side salsa and it had a little kick, it was good. Cons, soft taco are made with 2 corn tortillas, but not here unless you pay extra. The other con, well if you have read my reviews before, I hate when an establishment only offers canned soft drinks, it's 2026 we need to move past this. The crispy cheese shell paired nicely with the flavorful pork. Cilantro and onions topped the meat and the shell was lightly dusted with a white crumbly cheese. The outside has great views, but they have not added a shade so people can actually sit outside and enjoy the view. We each got the Original Shaka Tacoz plate and sampled a few different proteins. All were great, but the chicken really stood out thanks to its incredible marinade. We also tried the salsa verde and the mango chili salsa. Neither was overly spicy, unless you're sensitive to hot food, but both were packed with flavor. The mango chili salsa, in particular, I'd happily bottle up and take home. It would be perfect with a margarita! The fish was perfectly cooked and the pickled onions and romaine with lime juice made for a delicious bite. The surprise was the mango sauce. It was quite sweet and tasted identical to skittles lol, idk how they did that, but I loved it with the tacos. My husband got the steak burrito which was also delicious. Found Shaka online and when I asked a passing family how they liked it they said "do it, even if you aren't hungry, you should do it". Lol We were hungry and that was all I needed to hear. The fish tacos were great! The axis deer was also pretty good, but if I had to choose one I'd stick with the fish due to the added toppings. Wish I could try more options like the burrito. My son had the 2 keiki chicken tacos which just comes topped with cheese. He loved them! Great variety of hot sauces! They aren't just spicy, they also have amazing flavor. There is small bar like sitting area on the patio that overlooks the ocean. This place is worth a stop. Parking - Only handful of spaces in front of this location. Free parking. Ambiance/Environment: It's medium sized space with a good amount of indoor seating. They also have outdoor seating with a great view of the ocean. The "kitchen" was outside in the food truck. Service: We ordered with the cashier then picked up our food outside when it was ready. The cashier was nice and efficient. Throughput was quick; we received our orders within 8 minutes. What we ordered: 1) Chicken Burrito w/ mango sauce - I ordered this burrito. This was a huge burrito and stuffed with so much ingredients! The mango sauce was sweet with a hint of spice. It gave the burrito an extra kick. I really enjoyed this burrito. 2) Steak Salad w/ mango sauce - My bf ordered this. The steak was cooked well. It sat on a bed of salad with generous amount of toppings. Perfect dish if you don't want anything heavy, yet fulfilling. 3) Steak Tacoz w/ verde sauce - My PIL ordered this. The steak was also cooked well.
