What a great find in spearfish! We were trying to find a place for lunch and found this gem on yelp. Obviously gets bonus points for the owner being a big cyclist (decor around the place). The menu is something you'd find in a huge city and not the small town of spearfish! Tons of options and both traditional and unique options. OMG this was so good!!! Cowboy burger sans bacon with sweet potato chips. My mouth is happy and my belly is about to pop!! Great choice in beers (I had the Father-in-lager, excellent!). I don't understand why servers aren't trained properly, even the "experienced" servers. 1.) If the is an up-charge on an item, then the server should inform the customer at the time of ordering, not upon the customer noticing the charge upon presentation of the bill. 2.) Also, when hair is noticed in food, it has been my experience that the order is not charged to the customer, but not here. 3.) It seems that they are following a trend of a "service charge" of 3.9% for customers to pay by creditcard, which was apparently posted in the restaurant. I think that they should raise their prices to include this rate. This was my last visit to Killian's (over a few dollars and attitude) even though the food is delicious! read more

Burgers (the Wilson has an awesome twist with the peanut butter) and sandwiches (brisket french dip was unique and wonderful) were great. Fried stuff (fries and cheese curds) was off and the fryer needed an oil change. Staff was friendly but kitchen was touch slow. Overall i would recommend as our sandwiches were terrific. read more

Stopped here last Wednesday night just before 5 pm based on other's reviews as we passed through. The food and our server were good (young man, cannot remember his name), hence the 4-stars. We ordered the brisket dip and the chicken fried steak. The sweet potato chips were delicious! Took a star off because it was like high school mean girl gossip hour behind the partition wall by the kitchen (if just rating on this, I would have given 1 star). Not exaggerating, even people who worked there but were not on shift came in just to gossip; we even heard the bartender asking them why they were there if they were not working. Note to the young women servers that I doubt will read this: that partition wall has openings on either side and your conversations were very unprofessional and carry through the restaurant, especially when not that many people are there yet. read more

Killians has great food and a great beer selection on tap. Sitting at the bar is fun for drinks and some appetizers. It has a laid-back pub feel that's cozy and casual. Do not be fooled by the facade... Or the interior for that matter. Back when I was a kid, this place was a great steakhouse! After being closed, changing hands and names, it's re-opened again as Killian's. It's obviously a bikers hang out... Mountain bikes that is.... As I walked through the doors, I was seemingly sent back in time. The place has not changed with the exception of old bikes hanging from the ceiling. The booths, fireplace, barn wood walls and rock bar and quite possibly the very warm carpet, were there when it was Bell's steakhouse... Decades ago!!! So, let's get to the important stuff, the service, the food, and drinks!! Our waitress was great and since we brought our kiddo, she did great making sure he was content by bringing him crackers and pointed out the crayons on the table for him. I ordered the petite filet and white truffle mashed taters, my hubby ordered the Cajun bacon chislic (I breaded steak tips) with a side of hand cut fries. I don't think he and I said a word to each other til our plates were cleaned! My filet was super tender and full of flavor! Mashed taters were yummy! The steak tips were unlike any we'd ever had which, when you are in the hills, steak tips are everywhere, everyone says theirs are "world famous"... News flash! Killian's SHOULD be, because they were unique, tender, the flavor was off the charts! If you like craft beer, they have a great selection of local and not-so-local choices! They also have a nice wine and mixed drink selection as well. This place is a bit of a hidden gem! The chef has some amazing flavor profiles that rival anything you find in a big city! Stopped here with the family for lunch after hiking Devil's Bathtub. They had a nice beer selection that included a few local brews. We started with seared tuna and Sriracha nachos for an app. For our main meal my wife and I spilt a Cobb salad and pesto burger (our waitress's recommendation). Our kids had chicken fingers and French fries. Everyone walked away happy with their meal. One of the better ones we had on our SD trip. read more

Let me start with the good: Our waitress (Dani) was prompt, friendly, informed and attentive without being overbearing. They have a great selection of beer on tap (17) so there should be something for everyone. The atmosphere is casual and is good for just about anybody that would want to visit. The potato and bacon soup was good. Now, the not so good and the reason for the two stars: The food. Either my wife and I showed up on an extremely off night, or this place is completely overrated on Yelp. It was a Tuesday and about 6pm, so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. My wife ordered The Dip which, according to the menu, was their version of the French Dip. The meat was incredibly fatty, sliced thick (even thought the menu indicates thin) and just had a really weird flavor. I ordered their "surf and turf" which was a sirloin and salmon. I wasn't expecting anything amazing...after all, it was sirloin and salmon. However, what I wasn't expecting was the overcooked travesty that arrived on my plate. The sirloin actually tasted good, but I ordered medium rare and it was closer to well done than anything. I think they cooked that salmon 10 minutes longer than they cooked the steak....I can't recall the last time I had a piece of fish that was that dry...and I eat a lot of smoked fish. And lastly...why no Killian's on tap!?!?!? We are only here in Spearfish for a few nights as we do some touristy things in the area, but I cannot recommend this restaurant to anybody....unless all the want is some beer and some interaction with friendly waitstaff. read more

After driving around all day in Black Hills, we were starving and Yelp led us to this place. The service was fast and friendly and the food was tasty. Great eclectic menu with choices from pure heart attack food to healthy things like kale and beets. The staff was awesome and although this is a beer pub they even had a decent wine list for us winos. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food. We had a great time here. First time here, so we weren't sure how the food would be, but we were totally impressed. The Funk Blackened Salmon was very good. I'll ask to go a little lighter on the cajun seasoning next time, but it was very good. And the Lamb Burger was awesome. Done perfectly; juicy and absolutely delicious. Capped it all off with the creme brulee cheesecake... wow! Waitress was Emily, and she was excellent too. We just hope this place stays consistent, because it's good. read more

Very good steak. In fact, the rib eye was excellent. Sides were very flavorful. Salads were sparse but good. Everyone in my party of 5 enjoyed their meal, and everyone ordered a different steak. We left Deadwood disappointed that there were no good food options and headed to the closest city we could find, Spearfish. Thank goodness we did because we found Killian's. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the restaurant had a clean and cozy feel. The menu had so many options, and I don't if I was just really hungry but every option looked amazing. We decided to share between the two of us the poutine chicken fried steak and the crab stuffed mushrooms. I consider myself a chicken fried steak aficionado and was blown away by the crispiness of the batter along with the moist tender steak. The poutine was great with it's rich gravy and tender cheese curds atop crisp homemade fries. The crab mushrooms hit the spot with large chunks of sweet crab. We left happy and full... so happy that we decided to swing back after leaving to try their creme brûlée cheesecake. Which left us with even fonder memories of Killian's. We've been traveling for two weeks and have stayed in "posh" areas like Jackson Hole, Wy; without a doubt this meal was "hands down" the best meal we've had! I highly recommend that you stop here as this place rocks. By the way, all the plates that passed looked delicious. read more

To start off, they have crayons and a giant piece of paper on the table. This is about 75% of the reason I am giving this place 3 stars. The other is for the servers friendliness and knowledge of her beer selection. Claiming to have the best burgers in Spearfish may be a stretch. The burgers were bland at best (even topped with cheese, bacon, and bbq sauce). The bbq sauce tasted like all sugar and no bbq. The ketchup tasted like pure sugar as well. The tomato on my burger had mold on the side of it and the I would highly recommend the the fries over the sweet potato chips. I am a huge fan of sweet potatoes and these were lacking flavor beyond belief. On top of all of this the food took a half hour to come out, which they said they were under staffed. This kind of stuff happens but the rest is a little out of hand. Spearfish being a small town we didn't have expectations of the food and this place is lacking. My boyfriend also wanted to include that their gray crayon selection could be better...... All in all, I would not recommend. read more

Great diverse food. I come from Seattle where the options and variety are infinite. You can get a kale salad with beets, goat cheese and salmon here. Burgers are delicious. And their seafood isn't bad either. The Ahi club is my fav. Take my word from someone from Washington state. Win win.
