Our waiter Ash was very nice. Great local vibe. I had the bison chili which was very good and a kale caesar salad. Husband had the bison cheese burger and a local craft beer. Reasonably priced.

With a very unique and wide spread flavor profile you will find something to love. I saw Gluten free options, vegetarian options and many other allergy friendly things. The service was very good. They had plenty of servers and the did great with check in and asking if we needed anything. We did the sirloin bites appetizer or small plate, the Avocado Pico burger and Chicken fried poutine. The fries are home made and so good. It's a cute little restaurant on the edge of town with outdoor seating if you want and a nice cool interior which wasn't too loud.

I had to wait a bit to be seated even though a number of staff saw me but once I was seated the service was excellent. And the food was super delicious. I'm pretty selective with burgers and the one I order was too notch.

Driving on our way back from Devil's Tower back to Custer, SD, we decided to stop here for dinner. We came around 8pm on a Sunday and was seated immediately. We ordered two sour beers on tap and loved them (Shiner Lemonade Shandy from Spoetzl Brewery and Strawberry Whip from Sawyer Brewing Co). $7 for a 16oz was a steal. We ordered a cup of the bison chili, gouda jalepeno bison burger, and bison short ribs. All the food was amazing, especially the bison chili which had a great depth of flavor - Highly recommend! Service was quick - we were in and out in 1 hour and the waitress was nice and attentive.

I like dark beers and they had two on tap. I couldn't decide which stout I wanted and they gave me samples of each so I could decide. I ended up with the nitro stout and a club salad for lunch. The parking lot was almost full when I came a little after 1 o'clock. Appears to be a popular place. I would come back here again.

My husband and I stopped in to eat after some hiking in spearfish canyon. The atmosphere is very casual, they have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a small bar area and restaurant area. We started with the cheese curds. I really enjoyed them but for $12 just wish there was a little more on the plate. My husband really enjoyed his brisket dip. I got the Erock burger. I enjoyed the flavor but unfortunately they cooked the burger alittle too long, it was very dry. Disappointed. The homemade fries were a nice touch. Our waitress was really friendly and did a great job with service!

Great beer selection on tap - including Stella Cider as an alternative. Items are clearly labeled as Gluten-Free (GF) if needed. I had the Smothered Chicken and my boyfriend had the Smothered steak tips. He couldn't stop raving about the sauce. Service was very friendly and prompt. Our server "Amy" made sure my boyfriend was well - satisfied with his Draft beer selection - offering a taste if he wasn't sure. read more

So came in extremely great and friendly service. .. I had the portabella burger just amazing tender full of flavor and the fresh cut fries are the perfect side for this meal. The chop meal is amazing juicy, tender, and with the topping absolutely to die for... The side of bread you recieve with the whipped compond butter is also just over the top.. As a restaurant manager myself I would recommend this place to anyone traveling this way... So trust me when I say come in quick, I mean it. read more

THIS is the place to go after a day of climbing in Spearfish Canyon. The burgers were huge, but the healthy options (vegetable sides) were also really good. I only wish we discovered this place toward the beginning of our visit to Spearfish. read more

This place was wonderful. The service was exceptional, they always checked in on us. Making me feel like a valued customer, and I was worth their time. There was little wait for our food, and when my juicy brisket dip with bacon and mashed potatoes on the side came, my mouth was watering. It was beautiful, a masterpiece, and I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it. I was not disappointed, the flavors were like a symphony each flavor complementing each other. Stopped here as we read reviews online as it being the best food in Spearfish. Food was good; loaded French fries rock! Looks like a fun place to sit and drink at the bar on a rainy afternoon. We just came to eat as we were passing through but the wife had a burger that she said was the best she had on our entire trip out west and I had the French Dip which was very good. Wish they would have had some local buffalo on the menu...I love buffalo! read more

This place was Excellent! Too many choices for one visit and everything we ordered was good! Ended up ordering the bananas foster for dessert and it was great ! My husband and I had our wedding reception of 20 people at Killian's Tavern. They have a spacious banquet room that can seat twice that amount. It was a lovely experience. The service was great and the food was delicious. read more

We were looking for a place to eat in Spearfish on our way through and saw the good reviews for Killian's. They were spot on. The food was great! My wife said her filet was done perfectly and there were plenty of vegan/vegetarian options as well. Our server, Maizie, was very friendly, helpful, and available often. We'll definitely eat here again on future trips to Deadwood/Black Hills. read more

OK, while on a driving trip through the area, I was expecting a fantastic meal here with my husband. Not so much! My brisket dip sandwich was NOT fork-tender. It was just OK. My husband had that concoction with beef tips and some sort of sauce that he really thought was weird. It seemed to have milk curds in it, but I think it was blue cheese. His beef was not very good, so I gave him half my sandwich. I wouldn't recommend this place...sorry! read more

Great but not good on busy nights -but, this is understandable on a busy night. That being said, when one orders a 15 dollar burger and receives something far below par-so far below that only one fourth of the burger was eaten it is not ok. This happens, but when I related this to the wait staff they apologized- but I was shocked to see the $15 burger still on the bill. They were so busy that no one who could remedy this was available. read more

We stopped in here for a beer. They have a great selection (draft and bottle), and they just put in a whole new set of taps for an even bigger draft selection. The owner is VERY knowledgeable about all kinds of beer, and seems committed to keeping great new beers on tap. The only things that bothered us were the high price of beer ($11 for 2 pints) and the small parking lot (not sure where everybody parks when it gets busy). read more

Best restaurant I've been to in a long time. Had problems at another restaurant in Spearfish, called Killians and even though they were about to close,the hostess said to come on down and they'd stay open for us. TJ, our waiter was great and also very helpful with things to do while we were in town. The food was to die for. A fillet mignon that melts in your mouth, bacon mac and cheese like none other, an awesome cheeseburger, and corned beef that was so flavorful and tender. I'm ready to go back right now just thinking about it. The absolute best food we've had on this trip. read more

Fantastic. Best word to describe it all. Promptly seated when we arrived. Excellent drink menu and a wide variety of craft beers on tap. Our waitress (Michelle) knew the beers and helped us with beer and dinner selections. They were willing to make substutions for ingredients my wife did not like. Restaurant was steady busy and the plates coming out were loaded up with very interesting dishes. I had a spicy burger and my better half had the Greek pasta with chicken instead of Ahi Tuna. Burger was hand packed and just a touch of pink. Perfect! The home made pickled jalapeños were slammin. The fries stole the show. Double cooked big chunks of sea salt. The sign out front was right, best burgers in town. The pasta was creamy with lots of olives, spinach, feta and big strips of grilled chicken. I had to try and it was top notch as well. I took some clients to this spot last week for a large group dinner. Killians did not disappoint. I had the pork that was simply amazing! The balsamic salad dressing surprisingly was a show stopper. It is made in house and was so good. I could not recommend this place enough. Good people, great food, and a nice South Dakota atmosphere. read more

History

Established in 2012.

Our building was first an open air market here in Spearfish, but eventually turned into the Bell Steakhouse in 1978. Years later, it became Mad Mary's, then Shoot the Bull (which closed Jan 1st, 2012) and this past July became the current Killian's Tavern. We are a completely new restaurant with celebrated local cook Nick Caton at the helm. And don't be fooled by the name. Our roots are not Irish, no matter how much we may love the Irish. Our namesake is all about family, as Killian is the name of owner Nick's son.

We loved it when this business was in its old location, but this space is so much better. They have couches, a bar, high tops, and even live music! They also sell merch. The bar is just beer and wine, FYI. No THC drinks either. My husband and I were in town for three days and we hung out here every day. I bought two cigars to take home and the employee gave me this sealable envelope and a packet to keep the cigars fresh. What an awesome place. We want to come back to Deadwood just to visit this place again! FYI - no one under 21yo and there aren't TV's. Enjoy your smoke, your beer, and talk to your people! I kinda wanted to go back with a book. Haha

Absolutely ZERO Deadwood cigars! Didnt have time to light one up, i was just looking to buy and walked away empty handed...disapointing to say the least.

The owner and all of the staff are incredibly friendly and engaging. The wine list is extensive and evolving. They have other drinks too if wine isn't your thing. My favorite place to be is seated in a barstool at the counter with a nice glass of red in hand, getting to know the people around me. I'm so happy this place exists and highly recommend it.

I visited Killian's with my family and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. I ordered the zucchini noodles with blackened salmon, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were bold and balanced, and the dish was light but still satisfying. What I really appreciated is how this meal can easily be made vegan or vegetarian by simply skipping the salmon -- the zucchini noodles on their own carry great taste and texture. Whether you're plant-based or just looking for a healthier option, this dish is a solid choice. I'll definitely be back for it again. Two words: roasted beets! I've had two dishes that include Killian's house roasted beets and they are both delicious. The first is an arugula salad with goat cheese and bacon. I added cooked chicken which was served warm and went perfectly. The other is a plate of warm kale, roasted beets with a fried egg and a splash of Tabasco. It sounds weird but it's amazing! You get a side too and I ordered it with the garlic infused mashed potatoes. They also have $7.50 gourmet burgers during the week and delicious fries. One of the best craft beer selections in the area. Good local beers on tap too. read more

Our last stop in Spearfish on this vacation. It did not disappoint. Our server Amanda did very well for us. Social distanced as best as could be. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms. Piping hot which led me to believe they were microwaved but the flavor was there so no complaints I had the bacon Mac and cheese and added chicken. The girlfriend had Thai curry noodles with chicken. Both were delicious. We also had a sangria that did the trick. Will recommend this restaurant to anyone that asks about Spearfish. read more

We are from Las Vegas where there are plenty of places with excellent food. So while traveling we like to Look for places to experience the local flavor of the towns where we stop. We decided to try Killiqn's tavern in Spearfish, SD. It was an excellent choice. We had the petit steak, excellent. The decor was great, a laid back atmosphere where you can converse and actually hear each other. We highly recommend this place. Also our waitress Kylie was fantastic.
