Loved this place! We stopped by while on an outing to the outlet mall since it was so hot outside, and it was the perfect break from the heat. I got the peach ice cream, and absolutely loved it! One member of our party was allergic to dairy, and he was thrilled that there were non dairy options, and the best of both worlds was the kooler, that combined both the lemon and raspberry sorbets. We knocked on the door and the workers were inside cleaning up and refused to look at us at the door. A bunch of other customers also waiting outside. Kilwin's truly hosted the best Santa! He had all the bells and whistles. He was very personable with each of my children. He asked my son to keep his list. If you have a sweet tooth, this place is for you. They have delicious chocolates, caramel corn, and ice cream.Today, we had the chocolate toasted coconut and the marshmallow Smore's ice cream. Located at the Tanger 2 outlets. The ice cream is very good. Not super sweet but very good taste. The Traverse City cherry has lots of cherry bits. We got an ice cream cake from them also. Buyer beware: This Kilwin's location could be a hazard to your health. On Tuesday while shopping at the outlet stores, we stopped in for some ice cream and fudge. When we noticed that a young employee was not wearing a mask, we asked him to wear a mask while handling our food. He refused to wear a mask, saying he was not obliged by South Carolina law. While Kilwin's Corporate website claims they care about the health and safety of customers and staff, proprietor Jake Higgins responded to my complaint by referring to COVID-19 concerns as a matter of "opinion." Here's some of his email: "This is a terrible way to address your anger with goverment [sic] at a family business where we believe everyone's safety and liberty are equally important.  An apology is not in order as well as your complaint is an opinion and not a violation of any protocols or laws. My staff have the freedom of choice to wear a mask if they want to or if their parents require them as the lawful mandates were completely rescinded by our State and County governments." We all know that COVID-19 is a risk to health and safety, especially in hard-hit states like South Carolina. According to the CDC, less than 1/3 of residents in this county are vaccinated, so it's essential we maintain precautions to prevent the spread of the virus. Under S.C. law, Mr. Higgins has every right to require his employees to wear masks. He has a responsibility to contribute to public health in his store, and he is failing to do so. Candy makers were friendly. Don't think Cashier was happy about being at work. Butter pecan ice cream was average. Ordered 2 cashew caramel chocolates and 2 pecan caramel chocolates. Very good. They look alike and the cashier put them all in the bag together so we couldn't tell them apart until we broke them open. This could be corrected by putting them in separate wrapping inside one bag. Their salted caramel ice cream is the best and most popular item however when I tried it I didn't really care for it. It was good but I think I've had better. We just got ice cream and I got myself a salted chocolate pretzel. The guy working here was so nice and let me have multiple samples of the ice cream. Ice cream flavors were good, they also have a nice counter filled with fudge, chocolates and all sorts of yummy things. Prices were okay but service was good. The guy helping us was really nice. The 2 other girls who were also behind the counter should have asked me for assistance but they just stared at me and were too busy talking amongst themselves. Bought some fudge had a bite - pulled back the paper further to find a CURLY BLACK hair (see photo). Complained to Kilwins and was contacted by the rude female manager there.......4 days later! I was told I had to bring the slice back in to get a refund! Now why in the world would I keep a hairy piece of fudge for that long? Also, why do I need to inconvenience myself and go down there? On hot summer days, we would cool down by swinging by Tanger Outlet which is where this little gem is located. I also visit the Kilwins in the area that I live in now, however not as often as it is father away. My favorite ice cream flavor is pistachio and butter pecan. They have quite a few options for flavors and are happy to allow you to sample them all. I would order the waffle bowl with two scoops, add hot chocolate syrup and caramel, top with pecans, and walnuts and top with a cherry. Kilwins Ice cream is about as bad as it gets for what they call ice cream. There's so much guar gum and other fillers that it's a crime to call it ice cream. It's flat and flavorless and sticky. It won't even melt. I've had other so called ice cream from other places that are about the same.Cold Stone being one that comes to mind. Not to mention that they charge almost ten dollars for two scoops of sticky goo. This is the most expensive ice cream shop I've ever been to. We got 3 large dishes of ice cream to take home. No toppings or anything just ice cream our bill was $36.22!!!!! They charge $7.19 for a double scoop, then when you ask for third scoop they charged an additional $3.99 each scoop. We stopped in this place during our Christmas trip on a recommendation from townies and we are glad that we did. We got from what we understand are their two most popular home made flavor ice creams in a waffle cone. I got the sea salt caramel and my wife got the toasted coconut. May be the best sea salt caramel I have ever had and we take ice cream very seriously where I am from. Wife says hers was amazing as well. The three gentleman that were running the place could not have been any more pleasant, professional or happy about what they were doing. Great atmosphere, price, employees and ice cream. Wife and I decided to stop here after buying some books. The place smells amazing as soon as I walked through the door. Didn't try any of the truffles -- everything looked fairly standard (which isn't a bad thing), but I did get a cup of ice cream - I forget the name of it but it was chocolate with some vanilla and marshmallows and pecans.
