Wow! Kilwins is an absolute must-stop on Bay Street in Beaufort--you truly can't miss it. This place is heaven for anyone with a sweet tooth. They have everything from fudge and chocolates to ice cream and milkshakes. The shop is spotless, and the staff is extremely friendly. A huge bonus for me was that they also have a public restroom, which is always appreciated when you're walking around downtown. Yes, it's not cheap, but it's 100% worth it. Everything is delicious and clearly high quality. My husband ordered a milkshake--it was pricey at around $10, but he said it was amazingly good. Totally worth the splurge. After finishing a long walking tour of Beaufort on a very early November afternoon, we needed to cool off. We walked on down to local favorite Kilwins and ordered two fudge coated ice cream cones filled with toasted coconut and chocolate toasted coconut ice cream. They did not disappoint...they were generously portioned, deliciously rich and tasty!!! Our server was very friendly and helpful. This sweet shop was as if a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, See's Candy, and Thrifty's had a baby on the streets of downtown Beaufort, South Carolina. If you aren't from California, you most likely won't get that reference, but it's spot on. I used to work at a RMCF, so I can appreciate a handmade treat from miles away and the shelves of this cute shop are filled with them. House made caramel, fudge, candied apples, and hand-dipped chocolate delights line every surface and are beautifully crafted. Outside of their confections, Kilwin's is staffed by sweet scoopers and welcoming copper pot stirrers. New Orleans Praline Pecan ice cream: magnificent alone. Made better in a waffle dish. Beaufort's Kilwin's is a smaller Kilwin's and didn't have the variety of selection as some of the other stores I have been in. But the service was friendly and I managed to find items to satisfy my sweet tooth. read more

Service by Abigail wasn't great....but the ice cream was good. My kids and I arrived in the evening and greeted Abigail since she was by the door but completely ignored me and only starred at me. We went towards the ice cream side of the store. Abigail did not come to help us until another family walked in to get ice cream as well. I asked if she could add chocolate drizzle to my cup and said she can't unless it's a cone but I had gone in previously with the same request and had no issues. First time here and it was good! From candy to ice cream and milkshakes. We got the peach ice cream and the chocolate milkshake and some chocolate. They were all delicious! The chocolate they used for the Milkshake was rich and my family enjoyed the peach flavored ice cream! I frequently dream about that toasted coconut ice cream, so on our second trip to Beaufort I HAD to get it multiple times. The smell in there is absolutely heavenly from the making of the waffle cones. The workers all act like they don't really care if you live or die, but frankly I don't give a crap about that since the interactions last approximately two seconds. The fudge we got on our last trip to Kilwin's was horrid! The chocolate fudge was as hard as a rock like it had been sitting in the case for days, and the peanut butter fudge was just a yucky gummy goo. My mother says no fudge purchased and not homemade is ever good, and I stand by that. So really that's on me for buying it and not making it at home after our trip (which I did do for the first time ever and mine was way better lol um anyway... lmk if you need tips Kilwin's)... I will still give four stars because the ice cream is that damn good. read more

High Prices - Better Quality 'Ello Chaps! Kilwin's is a speciality chocolate and ice cream shop with roots in northern Michigan. This specific location in downtown Beaufort opened at the beginning of December 2018, joining a growing list of other locations throughout the Lowcountry and U.S. The company's headquarters remains in Petoskey, Michigan, although many locations are locally owned franchises. The speciality ice cream and chocolates are all oh so good. Try them all! TIP: ask for a sample of fudge. They're delicious. Mackinac Island recipe fudge is their speciality. TIP: Fudge is not your typical chocolate like candy. You can't eat it the same way, so don't eat a whole slab of fudge in one sitting. Many Kilwin's stores create some of their chocolate products in store. You can watch the action making for yourself. Want to know what's made in store and what's trucked in? Look on the back of the packaged items. If it lists a Kilwin's Petoskey address, then it was produced at the company's main facility in Michigan and shipped in; if it's the local store's address, then it was produced in house. Kilwin's has a great handle on quality of product. I've been to 30+ stores and most of the products of equal quality no matter where you are. This is one reason why the price is higher than many candy stores. But, you get what you pay for. Sometimes the offers are hit or miss. Some of my favorites like the peanut cluster is not offered in every store, nor are the famous chocolate covered northern Michigan cherries. Stable offers could be of help to the stores. Also I think each store should be allowed to offer one unique sweet-based item to set it apart from somewhere else. Maybe it's a pecan based sweet treat in South Carolina, a Chocolate shaped space shuttle in Central Florida, and chocolate covered orange in South Florida. Overall: I give Kilwin's FIVE Cheers out of Five. They have a fantastic product, although more expensive, makes up for the cost with quality. Service is more often than not top notch. read more

Please ask for a sample of fudge before you purchase. We made the mistake of assuming it was good and bought $40 worth. Got back to our room and it was all terrible. No flavor just SO SWEET! The chocolate was not a flavor I could say was chocolate. Peanut butter had no peanut butter flavor. Combo peanut butter chocolate no flavor. If you want fudge or any sweets with flavor go to the Chocolate Tree around the corner and down the street! Nothing against Kilwins. Just a total waste of money!! read more

I was in Beaufort last week to visit my grandkids. I had found Kilwin's on Yelp prior to my trip. I'm so glad the kids and I went to check it out! This place is a must! Hands down the best ice cream and waffle cone I've ever had. And the chocolates were drool worthy. It was so hard to choose but the kids got the chocolate covered marshmallows and they were out of this world. We got a turtle Carmel apple for my daughter in law and she said it was amazing! The staff is beyond friendly and so helpful. I can't wait to come back in November so we can come again. read more

And I was not served for 5 minutes but the staff high schoolers was very rude to me, then when I was served my ice-cream I walked over to the counter and not checked out for another 5 minutes. So my mom and I went a couple of months ago and I just have to say I am disappointed, I've heard such good things but the truth is, the ice cream is good but the service was not.
