Turtle fudge is so tasty! I love how you can taste test the fudge before buying it. The employees are so friendly and the place is so family friendly and family oriented. I got half a slice of fudge, and the price is based on the weight of the fudge. I needed up paying $6 for a small piece, a bit pricey. But the turtle fudge was very thick, rich, and chocolaty. One of the best fudge/ice cream shops in Mackinaw City and that's saying something since there is no shortage in these parts. Diverse selection of Kilwin's ice cream flavors. There's pretty much something for everyone. I had the Turtle Waffle Cone. It was so good, probably the best ice cream I think I've ever had in Mackinaw City and again, that's saying something because I have sampled a lot of ice cream at a lot of shops in this town by now. I consider myself a connoisseur of all things ice cream, so I know what I'm talking about here. Back to the Turtle Waffle Cone. It was so rich, smooth and creamy. I think that I could eat that everyday and not get sick of it- it's that good. It's what quality ice cream should be. I also tried the Salted Caramel and it was unreal, with quality caramel syrup over velvety ice cream interspersed with chunks of caramel and sea salt. It was worth the calories and fat it contained, I'm sure. My husband got the Mackinac Island Fudge twice (yes, the ice cream is so good, we went back twice during this most recent vacation). A lot of ice cream shops offer Mackinac Island Fudge, but this was far and away the best variety of it either one of us has ever tried (I sampled his and grabbed a sample from the counter as well). Oh, and I tried their low fat sorbet, too, which was actually quite nice. I won't be surprised if my husband tries to special order a vat of it from Kilwins someday or makes a day trip up there for more while I'm not looking (just kidding, maybe). I think our ice creams were about $4 each- not cheap, by any means, but worth the price and pretty much on par with other ice cream/fudge shops in the local area. It is a tourist town, after all, so I expect to pay a little more (and did). The fudge is some of the best we've tried in the area. At a certain point, every fudge shop's is good and to an extent, they all start to taste alike after a bit (and after sampling the wares from one shop to another), but it comes down to selection and pricing, as well as individual quality. Kilwins, like everyone else in Mackinaw, makes great fudge. The prices are a bit higher, but competitive with the other shops in town. They're peanut butter chocolate was beyond good, rich and buttery. I also liked their dark chocolate fudge, while my husband went crazy for the maple nut. Was it so much better than every other fudge shop around Mackinaw? I don't really know about that, but it was up there in terms of variety, price and quality. The service was friendly and they were pretty generous with the samples of both fudge and ice cream, as well as the candies, of which they had an enviable selection. Pretty much everything a full-service chocolatier should have around, they did. We enjoyed watching them make fudge in the back, but only here did I manage to observe the process for making waffle cones. I thought the demonstration was pretty entertaining. It's weird, because I always wondered how they were made and now I know. FYI It isn't an especially involved process, but it does call for the use of a waffle maker. read more

'Ello chaps! Few things get a 5 star rating from this guy, but Kilwins always does. Kilwins is a specialty chocolate shop with roots in northern Michigan. Don and Kathy Kilwin started the company some time ago and later sold it. New ownership later grew the company with franchises in many states, sprawling from Michigan to Florida and out west to Colorado. Specialty ice cream and chocolates and all so delicious. Try them all! Their specialty is Mackinac Island (Michigan) fudge, which are offered in several flavors. (Tip: Fudge is not chocolate so don't eat large quantity of fudge in a single sitting or you'll be sitting elsewhere with a rumbly in the tummy). Many Kilwin stores create some of their delectable chocolate products in store. You can watch them in action making in-house fudge or other treats. NOTE: Ever want to know what's made in-house and what is shipped in? Just search on products for the Kilwins label. If it lists an address for that local store, then it was likely made there. If the Kilwins label lists a city of "Petoskey, Michigan" then it was likely shipped in - but still delicious. Just know Kilwins chocolate is a little more expensive than your ordinary Hershey bar - but the quality is so much greater and well worth it! read more

Forget the fudge this is an ice cream town and Kilwins makes some good ice cream. The girl at the counter said cake batter and strawberry chunk were her favorite flavors but she's 18. Our more mature palets thought the coconut, which is really rich vanilla loaded with toasted coconut and chocolate chunks, the maple nut and chocolate were amazing. Kilwins makes their own ice cream so the only way you are going to get it is to go there. read more

The store and the packaging for the fudge and sweet products are Charming. The the staff was pleasant and helpful and the fudge was fantastic. We also picked up a caramel apple and a turtle candy which were awesome as well. Definitely our favorite fudge shop amongst them all in the state of Michigan. read more
