The day my son was scheduled for treatment, we hit unexpected traffic and ended up running late. I called the office just to let them know we were still on the way and left a message since they were in a meeting. To my surprise, someone called me back almost immediately. Not only did they reassure me that everything was fine, but they also asked our ETA and told us to drive safely. That level of care alone was amazing. I've never had a clinic call me back so promptly--let alone show genuine concern and understanding. Anyone who lives in San Diego knows traffic is unpredictable no matter how early you leave, so that grace meant everything. When we arrived, they were ready for my son right away. We met Juliet, who was incredibly warm and friendly. What stood out most was how she took the time to explain everything to my 15-year-old before doing anything. This was his first real procedure beyond a cleaning, and that communication made all the difference. She even showed him the tools ahead of time, which helped ease his nerves tremendously. Her gentle spirit and patience did not go unnoticed. Then doctor Cuisia came in shortly after and was just as kind and reassuring. She explained exactly what was about to happen and got started right away. As a mom sitting there watching my baby have dental work done, I was nervous--but with these two women, I felt confident he was in excellent hands. Once the treatment was finished, my son said, "That wasn't so bad," though he made it clear he doesn't want to repeat it anytime soon . His mouth was numb for about three hours, and they were very thorough in explaining post-procedure care--especially warning him not to eat anything crunchy, hard, or chewy so he wouldn't accidentally bite the inside of his mouth. I truly appreciate how they educate both the kids and the parents. That alone sets them apart. I couldn't ask for a better dental practice for my kiddos. Thank you so much, Children's Dentistry of San Diego, for your compassion, patience, and top-tier care.

I want to be clear that the quality of clinical care itself is not the issue; my concerns relate solely to billing conduct, transparency, and the handling of insurance-related disputes. After receiving care, I submitted the claim to my dental insurance provider. The claim required escalation and is currently under active review by the insurer. This process was communicated clearly and in good faith, and I have documentation, including a claim number, demonstrating that the charge is under legitimate insurance review, not ignored or refused. Despite this: The office pursued payment while the insurance claim was unresolved asking for "just a small payment" while they wait. The matter was escalated to a third-party collector before insurance determination There appears to be no reasonable accommodation for standard insurance dispute timelines There was no transparent explanation of why the bill was deemed immediately collectible rather than pending insurance resolution Patients should not be pressured to pay balances that are actively under insurance review, particularly when the provider is aware that the insurer is evaluating coverage or reimbursement. This practice places patients in an unfair position--either paying out-of-pocket prematurely or being threatened with collections while complying with standard insurance procedures. Further, the billing escalation process appears to lack: Appropriate verification that insurance review was complete Ethical safeguards before referral to collections Clear written communication outlining patient rights during an insurance dispute While I respect the clinicians and the care I received, billing practices are part of patient care and ethical responsibility. Referring a patient to collections under these circumstances undermines trust and may violate professional and consumer standards. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed for: Compliance with ethical billing standards Appropriate handling of insurance-pending balances Policies regarding referral to collections Oversight of third-party billing or collection agents acting on the practice's behalf I am submitting this complaint in good faith to ensure accountability and to prevent similar experiences for other patients. edit: Owner responded - yes, this is for this business Lil Smile Dr. Toppi. I am also a healthcare provider and I know this is 100% unethical. They did send me to collections for $300 while my insurance was escalated. I did pay the $300 (minus paying the "interest fees" - another unethical practice!) while my insurance worked on it out of fear. It is sad way to treat patients and other people deserve to know about these unethical practices.

They get a coin they can insert to exchange for a prize. All smiles has all the essentials of a pediatric dentist, from tvs with Disney movies playing in the lobby and ceiling above the dental chair, to little hygiene gift bags with toothbrushes and toothpaste. They are respectful of health decisions like waiving fluoride, making sure to add notes to your chart proactively so that you don't get asked at every visit. They have an amazing staff! Their office clerk Cynthia made sure the visit went smoothly, Dr Job is personable and attentive and their hygienists are great. One of my children had a dental extraction of a baby tooth that wouldn't budge. The process was smooth and painless for my normally anxious daughter. The shining star of our most recent visit was Danielle! She is so perceptive, kind and caring, she saw my other daughter who wasn't getting her teeth cleaned that day was hoping for a turn at the toy tower and she gave her a coin for waiting nicely. She also gave advice for toothpaste and flosser recommendations in a collaborative fashion which was encouraging and empowering. She listened to concerns we had and was willing to answer questions I had about alternative toothpaste options. 10/10 pediatric dental practice!

I have great coverage through work but they wouldn't let me know ahead of time what my bill would look like although I asked several times. Finally got the bill and the charges on the bill were quite frankly silly, especially concerning the appt experience we had. We had an 8:30 appt which they said was the earliest appt possible. Got there early and it still took 20 minutes to be seen. No books or toy, only iPads in the lobby. My child is 2 years old, he doesn't need a tablet. Once we were shown inside, another 10 minute wait. All that waiting for an appt that lasted 5-10 minutes, including the fluoride varnish. What was frustrating is that my 2 year old is not shy and quite comfortable with dental examinations (we floss every night, brush teeth and tongue scrape twice a day) and the dentist barely looked at his teeth and I'm honestly not even sure if the varnish she applied touched his teeth? No exaggeration, she went in with the varnish in less than 5 seconds. If he was screaming or crying, I would get that but he was sitting calmly in my lap and was totally fine! I would be perfectly content paying the additional fees for a quality pediatric dental experience but this was not it.
