I had an appointment scheduled and completed all of the required paperwork that was sent to me by the office right before my appointment time. After arriving, I was informed that the dentist was not in and that I would need to reschedule for another day. This was extremely frustrating and a complete waste of my time, especially since there was no advance notice or courtesy call before I came in. I also had to travel a long distance and waste gas to make it to this appointment, only to be turned away at the door. What made it even more concerning was being told that this "happens a lot." If this truly happens a lot, then maybe someone should pay attention and fix the issue instead of repeatedly inconveniencing patients. People arrange their schedules, take time off, travel, and make an effort to be on time for their appointments. Patients deserve better communication, better organization, and more respect for their time. read more

I am extremely upset and honestly shocked by the level of care we received at this office. I brought my almost 6-year-old son, who has a disability, in because his face was swollen, his mouth smelled bad, and he had a fever. It was very obvious he had a serious dental issue, likely an infection. Instead, we were seen by someone named Soha Hemmat, who introduced herself as a doctor, but based on this experience, I seriously question her competence. She spent less than two minutes examining my son. No thorough check, no concern, no effort. She dismissed everything as "just a virus," told us to brush his teeth and give him Tylenol, and walked out like the situation didn't matter. That was completely wrong -- and dangerously negligent. My son's fever continued, and his condition did not improve. We had to contact his actual doctor and take him back to be seen again just six hours later. He was properly examined and diagnosed with a clear infection, and immediately given antibiotics. This could have gotten much worse because of her careless and dismissive attitude. I have been coming to this office for four years and have always had professional experiences, which makes this even more disappointing. But this encounter was unacceptable. No parent -- especially one with a child who has special needs -- should be brushed off like this. This office seriously needs to address this situation. Either provide proper training or reevaluate who they allow to treat patients, because this level of incompetence and lack of care is not just unprofessional -- it's dangerous. Our Experience at Super Dentist I'm sharing our experience so other parents know it's okay to ask questions and get a second opinion when it comes to their child's dental care. This review is simply sharing our personal experience and the information that was given to us so that other parents can make informed decisions. When my son first visited this office, we were told that certain treatments were not covered under our insurance (Denti-Cal). To be sure, I contacted Denti-Cal directly. They confirmed that the service my son was receiving was actually covered. When I brought this information back to the office and asked them to double-check the coverage, they refused and insisted they were correct because it had never been covered in the past. However, after verifying with Denti-Cal and reviewing the coverage information myself, it turned out the policy had been updated and the treatment was now covered. About a year and a half later, my son went back for another cleaning and exam. At that visit, we were told he would need four crowns. My son is only three years old, so hearing that immediately felt like a lot. On top of the crowns, they also recommended a pulpotomy, which is essentially a baby root canal. As a parent, hearing that a three-year-old might need multiple crowns and a pulpotomy was very concerning and felt like a major procedure for such a young child. Because the treatment plan seemed so extensive, we decided to get a second opinion from another dentist. The second dentist told us four crowns were not necessary and that the cavities could be treated with fillings. They said that at most, possibly two crowns might be needed because one tooth was more damaged. They also told us the pulpotomy was not needed. That was a huge difference from the original treatment plan and really reinforced how important it is to get a second opinion when a young child is being recommended major dental work. Around that same time, I happened to meet a couple of pediatric dentists while driving Uber and Lyft. When I mentioned what had happened, they told me they had heard similar concerns before and that they had a colleague who works at Super Dentist about once a month. According to what they shared, that colleague had mentioned that insurance is not always run properly and that families sometimes end up being charged for services that may actually be covered. Hearing that, along with what we experienced ourselves, was concerning. When I explained the situation to our insurance provider, they also encouraged us to get the second opinion. Both the second dentist and our insurance provider confirmed that the original treatment plan seemed much more extensive than what appeared to be necessary. My advice to other parents is to always verify coverage directly with your insurance and ask for the procedure codes if you're told something isn't covered. Insurance policies do change, and it's worth double-checking. It can also make a big difference to get a second opinion if a treatment plan seems extensive, especially for a very young child. At the end of the day, parents trust dental providers to recommend what is truly necessary for their children. Unfortunately, this experience made us lose confidence in that trust, and because of that we decided to take our children to a different dental office. read more

Honestly awful customer service at this location. They blow you up via text message to book an appointment. And are so unhelpful at the front desk. She told me I need to sign up for the $99 membership, I paid for it and then she said oh it doesn't include cleaning so you have to pay an additional $40. After this year I won't be coming back. I would rather take my kid to an actual dentist office, that is clean, well mannered, professional and helpful. Also, our appointment was at 10am. Absolutely unacceptable. The lack of response and care is beyond frustrating. This is now the second time I've experienced this same issue--calling either to make an appointment or ask a question, only to be met with silence and endless delays. After my last treatment left my teeth extremely sensitive, I decided to wait a bit to see if things would heal on their own. But when the sensitivity didn't improve, I reached out. It has now been over a month and a half with no follow-up. Despite calling multiple times over several weeks, leaving messages, and even being "transferred to a supervisor," not once has anyone returned my call. Not once. I could have brushed it off if it were a one-time mistake, but the fact that this has happened to me more than once is unacceptable. Patients should not have to beg for a call back when they're in pain or seeking help. The lack of professionalism, urgency, and basic communication is beyond disappointing. I truly hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, because no one should feel ignored by the very place they're trusting with their health. If it happens a third time, I won't just be disappointed--I'll be gone for good. read more

Please please do not take your kids here. I very much regret taking my child here and am traumatized by the experience. Our first few visits were fine, but then we had cavities. So I went with their advice and got them fixed. Went back because I saw some darker marks on her tooth, then they forced xrays when she was resistant, causing a lot of tears and frustration. They were rude and could tell just wanted to hurry us along, and meanwhile were getting upset at my child (who was only 3) that she wasn't holding still. Took her to another dentist immediately, found out that the care I got from super dentist was abnormal for a child of her age. They were surprised by the work that was done on a 3 yr old and were incredibly patient as we got our daughter acclimated to a dentist again. Now she loves her new dentist and every time we drive by super dentist, she says "she hates that dentist". So please don't take your kids here. In addition, they keep texting you even though I've asked them to stop messages all together multiple times. read more

**UPDATE** Customer Support had reached out to me and clarified that the there would be no cost for the visit. The breakdown we received was from the insurance and Super Dentists were going to "write off" the "patient's responsibility" as we're within network. This doesn't negate the experience part of the visit but definitely removes the sting. Since they are so close to our home, we may come back now given the convenience. --- I scheduled my 19mo daughter's first ever dentist visit with Super Dentists about 4 months in advance. I brought up on the call that it was important for me to verify that the visit was covered under my new insurance. The woman on the phone said that I would be contacted near my appointment date. I was sent a link to fill out a bazillion forms before our arrival that included insurance information and photos of the insurance card. I did wait until the day before to complete some of them. I never got a phone call. On the day of the visit, we arrived 5 min in advance. The office is nice and they do go all out with their Super Dentists (heroes and villains) brand. Upon check-in, the receptionist asked for my insurance card. I asked if they had all of the information as I had filed it out and scanned the card. She said yes but then still asked for the card. I gave her the card and expected to get the status of coverage. We waited for the start of appt for 15-20 min after our scheduled time. I even came to ask what was taking so long a min before the assistant called my daughter's name, I also got the card back and asked if everything was ok with the insurance. I was told yes - in my world this meant that the visit would be covered. The total time in the dentist chair was under 10 min. The assistant struggled to brush my daughter's teeth for 5 min as she was uncooperative. Also, there was no "tour" of the facility or anything to get my daughter to "like the dentist" as was listed in one of the many documents I filled out online. The dentist came in and was fairly nice, she had me bear hug my daughter to stop her flailing so that she could have access to look at her teeth. Asked if we started brushing yet and said that we should. We had no specific questions and so the visit was over. I had to ask for a toothbrush as "they don't do that anymore but will make an exception for us". Then a month later we got the bill. Insurance did not fully cover the visit as this dentist is out of network. Our part - $95. For 10 minutes and tons of paperwork. If my dentist can run a pre-auth in 15 min and tell me how much I would pay, why couldn't they? Will go elsewhere. read more

So I received a call from the office to look into my scheduling complaint. After reassurances that this will not happen again, we tried to verify that the rescheduled appointment would be valid. Imagine my surprise when I was told that the office was scheduled to be closed again on the day of the rescheduled appointment. Obviously there is something wrong with their calendaring system. I understand that things can change, but when were they going to inform me that the office was closed? When did they know and when were they going to inform their patients? Our daughter has had perfect teeth and zero complaints. We just moved and this is our first time going to the dentist in San Diego. During her visit, she was told she had multiple cavities and needed over $300 in work. My mom was a hygienist and wrote this handwritten notes. I then got a second opinion with Dr. Lee, at Amazing Kids Dentistry, and Dr. Lee could not find all of these cavities. I can't believe we almost subjected our 6 year old to so much work! The office also does give away prizes, unless your kids had zero cavities. That did not go over well when our 6 year old got nothing and our 4 year old got a prize. read more

I received a bill for $284 with no information whatsoever about what the bill was for or when it was for. There's no online portal to be able to review billing. I called the number provided, but they don't have access to billing information and said they would leave a message for the office to call me back. I asked if she could transfer my call, and she couldn't. I asked when I would receive a call back, and she said within 48 hours. So if they happen to call at a time that I'm in a meeting or driving or doing anything else, I would have to start all over. Abysmal. read more

We've been going here because it's close and convenient, and we've been happy with the level of care overall, especially with our orthodontist. The atmosphere, on the other hand, is totally off-putting. From the Super Dentist music videos to the SD gift shop full of branded tooth cleaning products to the degrading staff uniforms, it feels more like a Chuck-E-Cheese than a dentist's office. Maybe that's what they're going for, but I find it tacky. All the branded adornments and product-placements also help explain why I have to regularly decline services and visits that aren't covered by insurance. If you choose to come here -- again, great service -- just be sure to pay attention to your bill. read more
