Ok this is why I love Canada y'all - a quality Korean meal in the middle of a National park. I knew this place was good when they don't take reservations and there is a line, and the clientele is mostly Asian. Always full. We ordered the shared dinner for six since we had 7, plus Kalbi and Soondubu. Everything was really good. The food comes FAST - very impressive and we were hungry. Highlights - - Kalbi was very delicious. Great flavour. - all the soups were really good. Especiallly the big soup that comes with the six person dinner. We were in Jasper and ate here on a whim. I didn't have great cell reception so I couldn't check Yelp first as I usually do. We thought the food was very good. The service was great, very sweet servers. The atmosphere was not like a Korean restaurant, no decors music that's Korean. The food was not very authentic. My husband and I had bibimbap and tofu soup. They don't give banchan for free but you have to pay. Understandable since this restaurant is far from any Asian markets but lettuce was the main veggie in my bibimbab. If anyone is desperate to have a Korean dish, this can work. The first thing I have to point out, is that we had to purchase banchans, and that made us sad. Then the banchans came and didn't taste great, that made us sadder... The food was alright, but personally I think my bi bim bap tasted a bit off. As the rice was a bit soggy so the texture wasn't quite right. In fact, the rice got seriously stuck on the sizzling clay pot, and I had to REALLY scrape it off (with force).  My fiance got Yuk ge jang and he said it was "fine". It was spicy but not flavorful. I think overall we were disappointed because the banchans were not complimentary and the food seems to be off/water down. We understand it's more costly to get ingredients to Jasper, but we would rather pay extra to get good dining experience. No matter what korean resturant you go to, there is always side dishes. I understand it's a tourist town so I expected higher tourist price but no side dishes really? 2. One of the few ethnic food choices in Jasper. Located in the city center, Kimchi House serves satisfying Korean food to a mostly tourist crowd. It was packed even at the start of the summer season, while most other places are sitting at about half capacity. No dedicated parking spaces, so look for some street parking, or preferably walk. Waitstaff was very friendly. There was a brief wait for dinner for a party of 3, and most tables are built for up to 4 people. No KBBQ grilling tables, all meat is pre-cooked. Tables can be combined for larger parties. We got a jug of water for our table and waitresses were very responsive whenever we asked for anything. It's a little cramped inside and does not give off Korean vibes at all, but kept reasonably tidy. Was disappointed to see that banchan is not free, but charged per side dish. The menus displayed in the window are slightly different than the printed ones we were given, and display a variety of basic traditional cuisine. Would not recommend getting the set meals as they don't encompass the best dishes and are for people who don't really know what to order and play it safe with their food. Food came in a reasonable time. We started with the Tofu and Kimchi (exactly what it sounds like, nothing crazy here, although the tofu was fresh), and Bin Dae Duk. I was surprised that they didn't have kimchi or seafood pancakes, and these doughy alternatives were small but fine. The Saeng-Son Jegae was our favorite of the evening. It's a little sodium-heavy as a lot of spicy Korean soups are, but there was a solid quantity of seafood and good ratio of broth to meat/vegetables. Bulgogi was a little on the sweet side, but does the job. Dolsot Bibimbap was also decent. Leave the bottom layer of rice alone when mixing so it continues cooking in the stone bowl, and scrape off the crispy bits at the end to eat. Two single room washrooms in the back, one marked for male and other for female. All in all, a welcome alternative to more traditional pub food in Jasper that won't win any culinary awards, but certainly hits the spot after hiking up a chilly mountain. read more

The food is not bad, per se but I wouldn't really call it authentic Korean food. The soon tofu felt very watered down and lost a lot of its taste. The tteokbokki (rice cakes) was not quite what I expected, especially the shape of the fish cakes but it had a nice mix of items. The bibim naengmyun was overflowing with toppings and the beef was odd in that it's not what I usually find in the dish and was too warm for a cold dish. There was also a LOT of cucumber and radish. The dolset bibimbap was weirdly watery However if I didn't know these were specific Korean dishes, they weren't too bad. It gets busy though so you might have to wait for a table. read more

If your looking for a restaurant that is still open and doing business with normal hours? Check out the Kimchi House. After the fires of this spring the downtown area is still trying to come back. We were passing by late afternoon evening and had a hard time finding anything open that was sit down service. If your from the lower 48 don't expect this to be your average Korean restaurant. No Banchon was served with our meal. Well I stand corrected you can get the Banchon but they charge for it. But our main entrees were very good. Plenty of seating. Clean, attentive service. Clean restrooms too. Do not have a parking lot, only paid street parking. read more

Sure, it's a little dated on the interior, but one of the best meals we ate in Jasper on our entire trip! We had the "dinner for two" with chicken and beef. The food is okay. Decent even if you consider you're in an area where good Asian food is not expected. And the wait staff in the dining room, well, you can see they're doing their best-- I really feel for 'em. But having had friends visit this place before COVID-19 who reported their kitchen was a bloody disaster (I want to say this was 2017?), well, their kitchen situation is still a terrible mess, at least for dining in. This visit, we watched several even not large groups (say 2 or 4 people, let alone one group of 12 people) who would get say 1 dish... then wait another 20 minutes for another dish. Friends and I watches several groups, over 40+ minutes, get maybe 2 dishes or 3 dishes, trickled out slowly, one at a time, while the rest of their group waited. One particularly bold set of diners got one appetizer dish, then straight up asked their waitress how much longer til the next. Their waitress went back to the kitchen, reported it'd be at least 20 minutes (!), which very understandably was not going to fly and the diners, very politely, informed her they would be leaving, paid for the dish they ate, and left. As the evening wound on, this scene or ones like it repeated at least a half-dozen times. I don't know why the kitchen here is such a disorganized mess, let alone has been for 5 years or longer. I can only report what I witnessed, and that the dishes friends and I ordered took nearly an hour to come out in the end. I'm not sure we stayed because we felt bad or we (politely and silently) wanted to watch the disaster unfold? Oh yeah, for the record, ban chan is not complimentary here; you will pay for each dish of kim chi or beansprouts or whatnot you order, and you will also pay for each bowl of rice. Dining room was a bit dated, especially for Jasper but these things could be overloooked with the food. I ordered the spicy squid (hot) with rice. And my husband had the bulgogi. Both came in a timely manner and were extremely flavourful. For Jasper the price was resonable. I will come here for dinner for sure again. There are many things I would like to try. My family and I asked around on our vacation to Jasper, and Kimchi House came highly recommended! My main frusteration with this place is the amount of time it took for my family to receive our food. We ordered the large family pack, and given the amount of food and the number of people in the restaurant already, we anticipated a long wait. That being said, we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food. This was especially frustrating given that we were told that it would take 25 minutes to get the food. The food on the other hand was simply phenomenal. Every dish was perfectly cooked and I throughly enjoyed each dish. My family of 5 were extremely full leaving the restaurant, and felt good about the cost of what we ate as well. Overall, the wait did deter my rating, but the food saved it all. read more

Well, we needed more sauce because our food was sooo bland. We can't recommend this place if you've had good Korean food in the past. You will be disappointed. Anyway, I just decided to leave it as those two items since I couldn't and didn't want to make a quick decision. My bf was irked and told me later it was because when I was inquiring about the menu, our waitress made a face to the other waitresses like she was irritated that's why my bf said we should just leave. My thing is, if they didn't even want to serve us, they shouldn't have seated us to begin with. Anyway, a Korean waitress brought us our food and was super kind. The other 3 Filipino waitresses were more on the "hurry up and eat your food and get out of here so we can close" attitude. Ok the food- The bibimbap was delicious and satisfied my craving. I like softer rice so this dish was excellent for me. I actually didn't want it on the stone pot because it cost more and I didn't care for the crunch rice at the bottom. However, the Filipino waitress just rung me up for the more expensive item. The galbi. Yikes. It came on the sizzling skillet which was neat but it was raw and stringy when the skillet stopped sizzling. We had to ask to have them take it back to cook a bit more, yikes. I actually would go back again if I ever come through this town and order other items on the menu because they looked good. However, I would definitely request for the Korean waitress. I would recommend the dolsot dup bap over the dolsot bibimbap because they have bigger and more flavorful pieces of beef rather than the ground beef that was given in the bibimbap. The yuk gae jang is great if youre looking for a warm noodle dish. The sundubu is a little lacking in the amount of tofu given compared to the restaurants in LA. ##Found fly in food & extremely rude store-owner## FOUND a fly in my dish. A girl took away the food and gave us a replacement dish without saying anything. She did not ask how we wanted it to be settled. The replacement was served in a noticeably smaller size, and this raised doubts about whether it was a freshly prepared dish or merely a portion of the previous one. I left the food there and did not eat it... We paid for all the other food we had consumed, and we thought at the very least, the bill for the soup with fly should have been comped.... However, the store owner yelled and interrogated us as to why we refused to pay for the dish with the fly. He yelled out that "flies in food is a normal thing and happens very often". We asked him did this happen a lot in his restaurant? He refused to answer the question and said, "I don't know". We refused to pay for the soup (mostly because of his attitude) and started recording the whole thing. He did not apologize the whole time... Very disappointed. Didn't know what to expect but took one for the team. Restaurant is small but neat. As other reviewers have mentioned the ban chan's are ala carte. Went for value and the wife and I had the meal for two for $42 CDN. For this you get fried mandoo, which was tasty, crispy and the sauce wasn't fancy but worked well. Second course was an udon style soup. Broth was a bit heavy on the black pepper but warm and not too salty. The vegetables in the udon soup were somewhat non-standard. Head cabbage, carrots, mushroom, broccoli. Must be tough to get produce to the middle of a national park. Next came the main dishes. Beef stir-fry and chicken stir-fry. Thought it was going to be bulgogi and chicken bulgogi but no, stir-fry and with the same vegetables as the udon soup. Deja vu. Service was attentive and given the location I think they did okay. If there is a next time I'd go with ordering off the menu. The more traditional dishes that other patrons were eating looked better. read more

After traveling for over a week without any Korean or spicy food, I was craving Korean especially as Jasper was initially cold when I got there. Found Kimchi House and ended up eating twice here. Both times were well worth the wait...and there was a wait both times. Service was better than expected in light of the circumstances. The first night, half of the restaurant was reserved for a tour group. The second night, we arrived during dinner rush and waited about 40 minutes to be seated (felt like I was back in Hawaii where waiting is the norm)...and there was no tour group this time around but the place was packed. Both nights the food was spot on but a bit pricey for Korean food and you get no ban-chan (side dishes) unless you order them. This is unusual for Korean restaurants as the ban-chan tends to set each place apart. Flip side is that there is no wasted food. Highly recommend this place if you are ever in Jasper. read more

We didn't expect there would be any Korean restaurants in Jasper but surprisingly we found one near our hotel and we had to try even though we thought it couldn't be authentic. We just hoped it's edible and didn't have any expectations. However, food was surprisingly good and we actually loved our seafood stew sooooo much. It was a lot for two people so we couldn't try any other foods but I can guarantee that at least the seafood stew was excellent.
