We went here for lunch this summer. First of all, it is in a great location. They are located upstairs on the main drag of Jasper (they have an elevator on the outside to get you up there if you have mobility issues). The patio is fantastic, and if you have small kids they will probably be excited that they can see the VIA rail trains go in and out. Service was excellent. We had the sweetest server ever, even when my kiddo with special needs decided to swipe the table and break some glass. (We offered to pay for it, she declined so we gave her a big tip). Menu is good - a variety of food and hats off to the Indigenous items they included. Since it was lunch time, we just decided on a main meal and no appetizers (we were hiking after this), but I really would like to come back here for the appies. We decided on the Wild Game Burger -Alberta Elk & Bison patty with caramelized onions, forest mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, pickles with old fashioned mayo-mustard sauce, served with Canadian kennebec home-cut fries while kiddo decided on the kids mac and cheese. Food came out in a timely manner. We really enjoyed how juicy our wild game burger was and I really loved the mushrooms and onions on it. Our daughter gobbled up her meal. I would definitely recommend this. Prices are high, but so is everything else in Jasper. If you want cheaper do a chain restaurant. The scene: evening, early spring, gray, still cold, mountains in the distance. A quiet town. The street lamps come on. A table by the window. The people: a mother and her son, tired from the day's (short) hike in the snow. The atmosphere at the street: hushed voices, some bit of hustle and bustle as strangers rush to fill some void. Hunger. There were more steps from the sidewalk up to the restaurant, a seeming offense to legs tired from pushing against the snow earlier in the day. The local game and seafood, both in varying forms, were the tempters. We got our table, and we sat down. Drinks first - CRFT Blonde Ale was a winner - and a lovely herbed bread and butter started us off. Menu choice this night focused on the game dishes. Some calamari to start too, though our hunger made a short life of that starter at our table. And then we got our mains. Well-prepared, unpretentious, flavorful, and - for us - just the right proportions. My bison medallions - ordered rare - were prepared just perfectly, with (as I told my son) the only instance of spaghetti squash that I think I have ever liked (alongside other well-prepared veggies as well). His mixed game burger didn't stand a chance. He even ate the mushrooms, a sure HT. Our experience here was so wonderful, centered, warm - It helped that our server was equally so, and you can see how much she connects with the customers as one would with guests in a home. We liked our meal so much we came back again the next night for more. And the second night did not lose any luster off the first. What a gem. We were in Jasper on a group tour and had a free evening to eat dinner on our own. My wife had a friend recommend Fiddle River so we walked 15 minutes from our hotel to downtown. Upon entering this quaint second floor space, we were immediately greeted by a smiling friendly face and seated immediately. The server took our drink order in minutes while we perused the menu. We landed on the Fish & Chips and Wild Game Meatloaf (Elk, Bison and Boar). Both were excellent choices that you cannot get everywhere. Unexpectedly not that great of a meal. I guess my palate is not used to game animal meat, which is no fault of the restaurant. It's good to try different things occasionally. I started with their French Onion Soup. For this course I do think the restaurant failed. The bread and melted cheese was a slice of bread that sat on top of the soup bowl, like the two parts were cooked separately. To me this was oddly different and not in a good way. The soup itself was a little bland, not salty or overly salty, which is also different than most. For my entree I tried the Game Meat Burger and fries. Meat was lean and more chewy than ground beef. It was interesting to try. I did ask first and learned the meat was ranch raised animals, not wild. Otherwise I would not have tried it. Service was very good to start. When they got busy it was hard to get someone's attention to pay. The restaurant is upstairs, I don't know if there is any other way to get up. TL;DR: some hits and misses, I would rate the food 3.5 but the service was so sweet, they get a 4. We came by one lovely evening in September based on the great reviews online, and also we were attracted by the promise of game meat on the menu that was not in burger/meatloaf format. I made reservations on Yelp and was glad I did as the restaurant got packed, even with the patio seating outside. There were hits and misses with the food - I would advise adventuresome palates to go forth and go your thing but if you aren't really into the gamey flavors to stick to the classics. The service was really sweet, the servers were so nice and the restaurant was very homey. They were trying to be as efficient as they could be and I appreciated that. Food: Bread: they served us bread after we ordered and it was a rosemary loaf with whipped butter. Very soft and went great with the butter Fiddle River Flair: delicious salad, nothing to complain about. Smoked Seafood Chowder: we shared a bowl of this and it was so delicious! Not much smoke, but the flavors were delightful and came together really well. It was creamy but not too rich and had an abundance of seafood. Would definitely recommend this. Fresh Steelhead Trout: served with a coconut curry sauce and rice (it was a mix of different grains that I don't remember). This was also really delicious, I liked the fish which was done well, and the sauce and rice were good. Alberta Elk Stroganoff: this was unlike the stroganoff I've had in the US with a creamy sauce, and had a dark demi glace sauce instead. The meat was a little gamey tasting, and kind of dry. I thought the braising would improve any dryness but alas. Bison Petite Tender Medallion: this was like a steak with less fat! I liked that it was medium rare so it stayed more juicy. I'm not sure the haskap berry sauce did all that much, but I think it went well together overall. Service was excellent, food and drinks were average. We just settled into town after a long drive and decided on this place due to good reviews and an appealing menu. Our server Dee was more than accomodating with food and drink options, was attentive eventhough they were very slow customer wise, and friendly as we chatted with her about the area. We ordered a few drinks: the Sun Dog and Fiddle Mule. My Fiddle Mule was tasty but I decided to switch to the hazy IPA on the next round. My guy didn't enjoy the Sun Dog and I agreed wasn't very good. He ended up switching to an Old Fashion, but again it wasn't up to par. He did ask Dee to spruce it up a little, which she did with an apology, and came out better. I ordered the Rainbow Trout dinner and my guy the Fiddle Fish Pot. My dish was tasty enough and the Fiddle Fish Pot was ok, but better with lemon and had a strong cumin taste in my opinion. Personally I did not like the flavor of the sauce on my partner's dish but he enjoyed it. All in all neither one of us were wowed and said we didn't know that we would be back for another dinner. The main reason I'd come back was the service and to support a local established business that just maybe wasn't our taste preference. Went for a Labour Day dinner tonight and generally had a good experience (older H&W fr Vancouver who enjoy good meals world wide). It was almost busy when we arrived at 7:15 and got busier with a couple tour groups checked in. Ambience was nothing special after a good hike up some stairs to the restaurant. The busyness was accentuated by the waitresses constantly rushing around. Our server was good and made sure we were happy to be there. A few quick food comments. The complimentary bread basket was freshly baked sliced whole wheat bread. Good bread is always a good sign. We had the meatballs and mushroom bruschetta plus the Fiddle River Flair salad and one main, the trout. All were good with the meatballs tender and hot, the bruschetta nicely sautéed. Salad was freshly baked sliced and the trout presented as a boneless filet not as the whole fish which is the way trout is usually done, but this was a nice change and no bones to pick around. But the one item worth coming back for was the smoked seafood chowder. Even though it was the smaller cup size rather than bowl, it still had all the seafood one could ask for and they made sure you had one healthy piece of each type of seafood....prawn, clam, mussel, salmon, cod(?) plus some chunks of potato and maybe squash, there was hardly room for the great broth. It is located right across from the train station, on second floor and has a lovely outdoor patio. We had a very tasty and tangy basil smash mock tail while waiting for our meal. Pam, our server, was awesome and provided us with a very pleasant experience. She suggested a wine for my friend and was very knowledgeable on the menu items. My fish pot had mussels, shrimp, two types of fish and clams submerged on a tomato broth with saffron, and had lentil coconut rice in the center of the plate. Food was incredible had the stealhead trout with coconut rice and veggies. My mom had the bison medallions with mashed potatoes in season mashed. Had the maple pecan cheesecake was to die for. First time in Canada! Found a reviews to try this spot. I wish I could give it 4-5 stars however got to keep it real. It was solid food for a small town vibe so I would still recommend if you're looking for a place to stop and eat. They do offer game meat if you want to try some different meat options. Unfortunately our chowder came with a layer so you know it's been sitting out for a while. The dish I would recommend is the Fish Pot, this really saved the experience for me. The mussels were decent too if you like mussels. The service was a little scattered and she seemed annoyed when we asked for extra things like more bread or utensils. Who knew our favorite restaurant on our entire trip to Banff and Jasper would be this cute little place we randomly decided to stop into one night for a bite. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything was packed with flavor and even things I didn't think would pair well together, did. My husband and I scraped our plates clean. The broth so flavourful with lots of onion but not overpowering, with a bit of bread (some French onions is all bread-not this one.) The only critique is we would have liked to see burned cheese on the side of the bowl. Highly recommend! Then we had the calamari and it was also very tasty! We ate dinner here while in Jasper. Located upstairs on a busy Downtown street. Easy parking in the public lot across the street. Elevator access is available for those who have difficulty with stairs. Restaurant looks like it is a local favorite. Seemed like there were regulars who were dining there as well as tourists. You can but the oil paintings on display created by a local artist. The food was very good and everyone enjoyed their Fish and Chips and Schnitzel dishes. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor which is nice. I had a nice view of the street and trains. I started with the fiddle mule. It was alright. Looking through the menu, I was struggling with what I wanted to eat. They serve wild game here too. Debated between the seafood chowder, mussels or the fiddle fish pot. I ended up going with the fiddle fish pot because I love seafood stews. It was delicious. Different flavors than the stews I usually eat. I typically go for the tomato based but this one has saffron coconut broth. It was very flavorful and tasty. Also filling for 1 person. Came with rice. I enjoyed my meal with great views. The restaurant is cozy and intimate as well. If you are ever in Jasper, do stop by for dinner. read more

We ate at the Fiddle River restaurant Friday night. We loved it. There is an outdoor courtyard on the top floor so we had a view of the pedestrians below and all the mountains. Our server was friendly, prompt, and had suggestions for our upcoming visit to Edmonton.I had the candied smoked salmon appetizer and Fiddle salad which included curried carrots and a horseradish whipped cream. Really good. My entree was the wild game meatloaf. Dense and chewy. it was served with mashed pototoes, bannock, (a chewy fried bread) and veggies (roasted red pepper, sauteed purple cabbage, steamed broccoli) . Wild game meatloaf with a rich sauce that won over my discerning son as did the Canadian mussels with blue cheese, garlic, and white wine sauce. The kid's menu fettuccini with butter and parmesan comes optionally with a grilled shrimp skewer - my daughter wanted a second. The Fiddle Fish Pot had tender, fresh chunks of salmon in a tomato soup as thick and tasty as a sauce, with a spicy kick that builds slowly until you get to the bottom of the bowl and you realize your mouth is watering. Went here on a Thursday night around 7pm and there were lots of tables available. We went upstairs to the balcony but were unfortunately seated away from the railings and heater lamps. We were welcomed fairly quickly and ordered the seafood chowder, meatloaf and snapper. Seafood chowder was the main highlight! Meatloaf was delicious and very filling. The snapper was nothing to write home about. The spinach mushroom sauce had more flavour than the fish. Most likely wouldn't order that again. After eating the service got very slow. It took forever for our waitress to come over with the bill and machine so I took off a star. I definitely recommend the seafood chowder. It is located upstairs and across from the main train tracks and a view of the mountains so the setting is good. And, it started off really well with their seafood chowder which is awesome and the salad was equally great due to its freshness. Where I got lost, however, were the main entrees: the elk or moose stew and the bison steak. I thought the stew would be more tender but the meat was a bit chewy and the Steak felt like I would never be able to chew it out. The accompanying veggies and mashed potatoes though made up for the protein portion. I'll readily admit that it MAY be my fault as it was only the second time that I've had non-cow red meat. Maybe I'm not used to the texture. Nevertheless, in light of the cost of the meal in comparison to how much I enjoyed it, I could not justify 4 stars. read more

What a great little restaurant. We started with a nice Canadian blend wine. The Canadian wines are actually pretty good. We each started with a side salad. They were huge! The homemade bread was very tasty. For our entrees my husband had the Alaskan king crab legs and I got the fish pot. He had the better meal. He enjoyed every ounce of his one pound of fresh king crab legs. My fish pot had a couple of empty mussels and some weird mystery fish with skin on it that wasn't to my liking. We finished the evening off with a slice of Bailey's ice cream on an Oreo crust with chocolate syrup. Delish!! Service was impeccable and we enjoyed our dung experience. read more
