i just had cataract surgery in my left eye here yesterday. The staff, especially at check in, pre-op nurses were extremely courteous, patient centered and friendly. The facility is neat, clean and comfortable.
My only negative comments have to do with the sedation administered during the surgery. Had it not been for the eye drops used to numb my eye, the IV administered sedation for pain relief was totally useless. I was awake, anxious and was completely conscious including the sticking, burning, pressure sensations with the procedure being used. At the completion of the procedure when asked why I didn't notify someone of the pain I was experiencing, I said I was not about to complain when the surgeon was involved with an instrument in my eye. It would have been nice if the CNA or someone else would have asked me if I was ok, which was never done. Their assumption that I would tell them during the procedure was not valid to me because I had no way of knowing from experience how much pain was to be expected during the surgery.
My assumption is that a minimum amount of IV sedation is used to reduce considerably the amount of time spent in recovery thus allowing the patient to leave quickly so as to free up space for the next patient.
Also it would have been nice if I had been advised of what to expect within the next 24-48 hours post op. I was not expecting the post surgical eye pain and the totally blurred vision from my left eye leading to an unhealthy dose of pessimism.
Dr Nagy, the attending Ophthalmologist is exceptional and would highly recommend him for your cataract surgery. It has been 24 hours since my surgery and now I'm more optimistic about the results.
I believe if the proper amount of IV sedation had been administered, this surgery would receive an A+.
One should not have to endure the pain, feeling the incision, the extraction of the cataract, the needle injection of the antibiotic and total discomfort when having cataract surgery. read more
