This is a five star for young people checking into the lounge to enjoy a fantastic evening. It's a bust for those looking for a five-star getaway. Baker that isn't welcoming, a door not opened, a long wait for check in. Misinformation from the front desk, a hard and uncomfortable bed, cheap and uncomfortable pillows, missing toiletries and a littered floor... all add up to a two star experience with a five star price tag. As we were leaving the hotel to walk to Bayside, the front door area was filled with drunks, with one threatening to kill another... until the threatener fell on his as$ because he was so drunk. I would've given 5 stars, but I'll explain. This hotel is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! When we arrived it was FREE WINE HOUR!!! Score there! The guest service rep Carlos was nice & friendly. I advised him I booked thru FunJet & prepaid IN FULL in March. He said ok they'd only run my card for incidentals. I later checked my card was ran for $924. I INSTANTLY became IRRITATED. He apologized & said Funjets credit card was declined. BULLSHIT LIE!!!!! He also said I had to call Funjet to clear up the error. MAJOR PISS OFF. I called Funjet & they confirmed my payment in full in March. They called & said they got the run around too and after 30mins Epic agreed they screwed up they also charged Funjet 3xs. They also told me they would release the $924 hold & I called my bank they said its a lie!!!! Then Carlos also ran the card for ANOTHER $300. This was just getting better & better. He comped me $100 (whoopy doo). The parking is also a joke! $39 a day. (Hidden fee) it does take the valet service 10-30 mins for your car. The rooms were beautiful. The room service was great. I believe this hotel has all the elements necessary to be "epic" but it's just not there yet. As much as I wanted to enjoy my stay, I felt like from the minute we drove up there was problems. The valet guys were atrocious. Not I do not drive a porsche (yet), but service is service and my green bills are as good as the next guy. Took about 10 minutes to be helped or directed because a ferrari pulled up behind us and the valet guys were like leaches. So finally inside, we were helped by a friendly guy at the desk. He gave us our key cards and a bellboy helped take our stuff. We get to our room, get all of our stuff in, and I was impressed with the room, it was spacious, open plan and large sliding glass doors let in a lot of light. The bell boy had left, and then I noticed a card and cheese platter. I lifted off the plastic wrap and it reeked. I opened the envelope and see that it was dated the previous day, and wrote to a Mr. and Mrs. [insert any name but mine here], it said happy birthday and enjoy your stay. Well, it happened to be my birthday, so I thought, maybe they have my name wrong? Then I second the whole Mr. Mrs. thing? And our check in date was never the previous day. The smell of sweating cheese started to tick me off. So I decided to use the room phone to call down to the desk to see if we got the wrong room. I was forwarded by one person to a different person, it hang for so long I put in on speaker and started getting my luggage together - no-one picked up. Now I went from accepting that I could be in the wrong room, and being pissed off. I decided that I should sort this out immediately so went down to the front desk, we saw the same guy that checked us in, I handed him the card and told him, this was not addressed to me, and the stale cheese was the icing on the cake. With minimal apology, he simply handed us new keys and said that he had given us a new room, with a better view. I told him I needed the old key because all our stuff was still in the room with the cheese and we needed to collect it. He did offer a bellboy to help but we declined. After our drive we were looking to just get settled into our room and relax. So finally in the room, and he was right, much better room, plus we were higher so we had access to a better pool. We relaxed, I really enjoyed the soaking tub, we ordered room service which was fast. Got ourselves ready and went out for the night. We didn't get back that last because we figured we'd get a few drinks at the hotel before calling it a night. We went to the outdoor bar on the pool deck. We stopped several servers and asked if there was a bartender or someone we could order drinks from, no-one could help us, after 20 minutes hanging around, we decided just to leave. I was looking forward to sleeping in that bed, the pillows, bedding and mattress were sooooo comfortable. Unfortunately beauty sleep was never attained because all night long there was a high pitched yapping dog that just wouldn't give it a break. I maybe got 3 hours due to exhaustion, but even into breakfast time we could hear it. Because of this we didn't order breakfast from room service, because I was so ready to get outta there. We went down to check out, thank god they serve tea and coffee at the table in the lobby, I needed something after a night of no sleep. Check out was easy, we didn't have to wait too long for valet, maybe 10-15 min; we had called from the room before we came down so timing worked out well. Overall it wasn't a great experience, and I think that's just fate. I'd like to go back, planning maybe a girls weekend, so we get massages and use more of the facilities. I'd be willing to give Epic another shot to prove to me that it really is Epic. read more

I was recently in Miami for a work conference at the Epic Hotel. What a stay it was. From the moment I walked in I felt at ease. From the life size Jenga board, to being greeted with a glass of wine, and to the extremely sweet and friendly check in this place was great from the start. I was extremely satisfied with my room. The bathroom was beautiful with great fixtures, a beautiful tub and a great stand up shower with a rain shower head. The bed was also extremely comfy... The pillows were a bit soft, but that's nothing to complain about, really. Onto the conference: they really outdid themselves. The conference rooms were great, and not stuffy like many are. Being on the 14th floor with floor to ceiling windows definitely helps with the ambience - people were energized and the space was great. The staff there was incredibly friendly, always willing to help and extremely knowledgeable of what to do and where to go. After my conference was finished my fiance arrived for a nice weekend stay in Miami so we got to enjoy the other amenities the hotel has to offer: roof top pool, lounges, restaurants, etc. Fri night we decided to go to Area 31 for dinner and drinks. This was really a deciding factor for me, actually. We ended up going to dinner pretty late. Say around 10:30pm. When we arrived the hostes told us they just finished seating tables, but we could sit in the lounge to eat. No biggie, it was late and we wanted to just enjoy ourselves. As we're sitting about to order drinks the hostess comes over and says "you know what, I'm going to seat you over by the window, it's only two of you". We thought, wow that was really nice of them. They totally didn't have to do that. It really made the evening - our waiter was awesome, young and knew the menu. He also made suggestions and even gave us complimentary drinks. Never a bad thing. After we finished eating we went out on the patio for some more drinks and listened to music. It was a perfect cap to a good meal.... Notice how I said good meal, not great meal. Well everything about the meal was GREAT, but the food wasn't the best I've had. Def top quality, but not spectacular. Still, I'd go back, no question. On to Kyma lounge. Love this place. The bouncers were even nice. That sounds like an oxymoron, but it's true. The staff was nice, it wasn't over crowded, and the drinks were STRONG. The next day we spent at the pool deck. It's beautiful. Not to sound conceded, but I've stayed at some extremely nice hotels around the world, many of which are famous simply for having a nice pool deck (cough, Mondrian LA, cough) and this absolutely rivals any of them. Besides the fact that children are allowed there, but that doesn't detract from a thing. All in all if you're in Miami and don't feel that you need to stay on South Beach, stay here. It is beyond worth it and you'll be made to feel welcome and special. They even let us have the room an extra three hours on our final day just because we were flying late.... Ok maybe 4.8 stars We took a pre Christmas long weekend to Miami . both our jobs are crazy busy over the holidays....relax before the stress ! With the art bezel people filling up the SoBe hotels we tried the Epic in DT Miami and we were very satisfied Excellent customer service, quick check in and bags to the room quickly. The room was beautiful and spotless. a huge balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the inter-coastal. We saw manatee and dolphins swimming through. The rooms are very similar in layout and decor to our Las Vegas favorite the Cosmopolitan. Housekeeping was invisible and the room was always made up no matter what time we left it for them . The pools while a little windy were wonderfully heated and the attendants did a great job with the towels , drinks and food service. The lobby bar/club was cracking both Fri and Sat nights, no cover and strong drinks. The .2 star deduct was for the valet and doormen. There always seemed to be a traffic jamb and they were a little slow in getting taxi's . Seemed more interested in driving the very high ends cars and talking to each other. First let me say, I'm a very stingy with my stars for hotels, so 4 stars is considered very good in my book. This is a lovely hotel, with an amazingly breath taking lobby (with a fashion photo shoot going down while we were there). Its located on Biscayne in the newer area of down town Miami, where all new skyscrapers are built. I hadn't been to Miami in about 6 years and was surprised by how many new swanky buildings there are. This area is about 10 minute cab from South Beach (across the bay). Similar to the Mandarin the design is comfortable contemporary (some Asian influence), lots of large floor to ceiling windows. We stayed in a mini suite ($549) - spacious with big flat screen TV that swings around to face bed and sitting area (smart use of space), great linens, excellent view from 17th floor, nice master bathroom with two sinks, closed in toilet, a sunken tub and a stand up shower. Great "light dimmer" function in suite, makes for great late night ambiance! Since this is a Kimpton, don't forget to use your Kimpton frequent stay card, we got a free upgrade and $100 in spa credits. Spa experience is not nearly as good as Mandarin, but nice. It appears Gym and Spa are outsourced to a fitness club, so you don't get "special service feel" you would at Mandarin or any O&O spa. Treatment rooms are very nice (zen like), changing room is nice but very small with few amenities (although they do have a nice steam room). Gym is large with lots of good equipment (treadmills with TV's) etc... Not sure about pool, didn't get to see it. Cool outdoor roof top Restaurant and Bar on 19th floor, with comfortable couches and chairs overlooking city, we went there for a drink (all Kimptons have a free wine happy hour). With so many hotels in Miami to choose from, you need to decide what experience you want. I looked at hotels on South Beach, but have found that many are old and worn (and it can be noisy down there). It's hard to know what you will get. If you want a new, very hip, cool hotel, that has beautifully designed and appointed rooms, consider this one. Be prepared for $20 cab fair to South Beach. read more

This by far is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. Let's first start with the fact you must wait in your car/cab for 10-15 minutes before the valet lets you pull in. Second the amount of money you pay to stay here for the service is awful. Third DO NOT go to the spa here the showers are not clean, the staff doesn't know the difference between a steam and sauna room, the hair brushes look like they have never been cleaned. Fourth reason room service is disgusting if you plan on having a nice meal for 150.00 then you are out of luck here the food was 30 minutes late, it didn't come as said on the menu, and customer service for room service I am convinced doesn't exist. Coming from The Four Seasons right down the street which by the way is wonderful! This place is awful DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. One kind of okay thing the view from the pool is nice(don't expect good service out there either) but tis' a nice view. read more

The building is beautiful but the service is poor. My room was not ready when I checked in at 8pm--I was upgraded but I can't imagine why a room is not ready by 8. Room service took over an hour and they brought the wrong food. Breakfast was not much better. I would stay here for the location but go elsewhere to eat. read more

HOTEL DID NOT HONOR BOOKING MADE DIRECTLY THROUGH WEBSITE! I arrived at 9:00 P.M. Friday evening after working all day and flying 3 hours. The hotel informed me that the reservation, despite being made directly with their website, was no longer available b/c the person who had the room asked to extend their stay and was paying a higher rate. Due to a NASCAR event in town all the other hotels were sold out. I ended up booking at the Loews in South Beach for a much higher price. The hotel offered nothing in exchange. Said they knew they did this the day before and didn't bother calling me. The inept manager even pointed to our phone number on their screen and said "yeah, we should have called and didn't. There is nothing i can do now". HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE and HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT. I WILL NEVER BOOK AGAIN WITH KIMPTON OR IHG. read more

I have now been to the EPIC hotel twice. The first time I went was about a year ago for a Happy Hour at Kyma Lounge. Happy Hour was ok, the place was a bit small for the amount of people that were there so it made it quite difficult to mingle. It didn't bother me too much since there was an event going on that night. The main reason for this dismal review is because of the valet service. I left Kyma at least 30 minutes prior to the people I came with and went to valet to retrieve my car. I turned in my valet ticket and proceeded to wait...and wait...and wait some more. I tried to be patient figuring that they were just really busy. After about 45 minutes I went up to one of the valet workers to ask about the status of my car. It still took probably another 10-15 to get my car once a "special" request was put in. Needless to say I was not very happy leaving there but I assumed maybe they were just extremely slow. Imagine my surprise the next day when I spoke to my friends and they told me it didn't take very long for them to get their car. So I started thinking that maybe my car was being discriminated against. Well two weeks ago I returned to the EPIC hotel for a surprise birthday dinner at Zuma. Silly me I didn't take the time to research parking assuming that I wouldn't have the same problem with valet. Well dinner at Zuma was nice. The food and drinks were very good. We sat outside by the water so even though it was humid watching the boats made it all worth it. We were a party of 9 and the waitress that took care of us was wonderful, she was very attentive to our party. Even more surprising without even asking she came out with separate checks. I can't say enough about the service. I left with a huge smile on my face. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take that smile home. Three of us turned in our valet tickets together. The first car probably came out within 5 to 10 minutes (nicest of the three cars). While I am waiting with the rest of my friends I tell them about my horrible experience with valet the last time I was here. Their car came out about 5-7 minutes later. My friend asks if I wanted them to wait with me to get my car. Well we have a similar car (mine is maybe 2 years older) and it hasn't taken them too long to get their car so I'm thinking this is a good sign and I told them not to wait. Boy was I wrong. I gave valet another 15 minutes and when I still didn't have my car I went to find someone who looked like they were in charge to find out what was the deal with my car. Once again a special request had to be put in to retrieve my car. A valet manager calls me over to where the cars come out of the garage and tells me to wait right there so I don't have to wait on them to drive the car up to the "normal" place you receive your car. He also tells me it will probably take another 10 minutes for the car to come down because it was parked on one of the higher floors. I told him about my previous experience there so he gave me his name and told me to name drop the next time I came (his name) and tell them to park my car on the 3rd (VIP) floor. Umm I have a much better idea...how about your refund the amount I paid you for valet. I think I still waited 15 more minutes to get my car. I couldn't wait to get out of there. All I can say is that if I NEVER go back to the EPIC hotel for anything it will be too soon. So I've now reached the conclusion that it is not my car per se that is being discriminated against but rather specifically me. I hate to think that way but to have this happen twice and to be the ONLY African-American in my party both times I don't know what other conclusion I can reach. To compound my poor experience, I tried calling the hotel the next day to complain to the manager. The manager listened to my story and took my name and number to have the valet manager give me a call. Yeah.....still waiting for that one. read more

This is the worst hotel in Miami. The rooms don't have great views and despite their modern appearance are falling apart. The beds are extremely uncomfortable. However, the biggest issue was that the valet damaged my car and REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS. To me, this is completely inexcusable for a large organization and therefore, I will never stay at this hotel again. read more

Omg valet parking was horrible! I waited 30 minutes for my car after my meal at Zuma. The 6 or 7 people that came after me got there car first and when I asked the lady four time about the car and she wave me off with its coming and the 4 people that were parking the car were standing around doing nothing while I waited! Wow I expected more from a prestigious hotel like Epic to hire people that can carry out good service but apparently not! I'm really disappointed and if I ever go to any hotel I would not choose this one if service from the parking is this bad really reflexes the hotel services. read more

BEWARE FUTURE BRIDES. I stopped in this afternoon to check out their event spaces. They were able to accommodate my request and allow myself and my fiancé to pop our heads in. We were done in less than 15 minutes but the front desk wouldn't validate our valet ticket. So $15, cluster fuck valet situation and an additional 20 minute valet wait, we were finally able to leave. The hotel and the room service/ turn down service are nice. One odd thing is they do not provide wash cloths. You get hand towels and bath towels but that's it. The staff is friendly. I went to the spa and would recommend if you go that you ask for someone that is seasoned and that is their main job or that they can at least provide quality service. The girl that did my massage talked about the 10 other jobs she had and frankly it showed in the quality of her massage. She did not put much effort into the service. I paid approx 160.00 for a massage that felt like it was a person without experience and knowledge of proper technique. I could probably get a better massage from a random person without any training. It really was frustrating to waste that kind of money for a service in a facility of this caliber. The situation turned out to be stressful and unenjoyable. I was stressed about getting ripped off with the crappy service which defeats the purpose of trying to take an hour out of the day to go relax and pamper yourself. Then, they booked me for the last appt of the day which meant as the service was finished they were running around trying to get you out of the facility. People running down the stairs with dirty laundry, a lady in the restroom trying to hurry and it get cleaned, and then the front desk was closed down and the girl and what appeared to be her boyfriend were there anxiously waiting for me to exit so they could leave too. It's not like I took my time getting changed, I threw on my clothes and left as to not keep anyone waiting. Ultimately it was not an enjoyable experience and I could have received better results using my foam roller. I would recommend they screen their employees to ensure the service they provide is worth the amount of money they request. Also, if everyone wants out by 9 pm schedule so the last appointment is done at 8:30 not 9 because it really takes away from any relaxation to be rushed out the door. It comes off as though you're not appreciated as a client. Nobody should feel rushed out of a spa service, especially someone that just wasted a lot of money for very poor quality of service. read more

My stay at the Epic hotel was great. here are some pros and cons about this hotel.One pro is that all the hotel rooms have great views of Miami and also has balconies in all of ther hotel rooms. Another pro is that not only do they have room cleaning they come back in the evening when you're out they have nightly turn down service. One last pro is that they have an over the head rain shower. These are some pros of the Epic hotel. The con is that any time you can here people walking down the hall witch you can tell that the walls aren't sound prof.Other than that my family and I had a great stay in Miami. read more

The Epic is a great hotel. The hotel staff was fantastic and made sure our stay had no flaws. My stay lasted a week and was a mixture of business and pleasure. The pool staff continually ensured that we were fed and well cared for in the drink department. I can't say enough about the staff which is where the rubber meets the road in this industry. My only ding was with the housekeeping. I had a couple of minor issues and the housekeeping manager took care of them immediately. There are two restaurants on the property. Area 31 and Zuma. It is also located close to Mary Brickell which has a LOT of restaurants and bars. Only a 20 minute cab ride to South Beach. read more

we really enjoyed our stay here. We were on the 27th floor with a balcony and a beautiful view. I felt well accommodated and would highly recommend to others. On the 16th floor you will find an excellent spa, a pretty good restaurant and a beautiful pool. And if you forget something, like a toothbrush or a razor, they don't try to charge you for everything. This hotel was a nightmare the valet service was horrible and they can never remember where they parked my car. The text to get your car is pure BS!!! Don't even think about taking a hot shower without having to press the button on the shower to get hot water I had to call maintenance for that just to have him talk to me like I was crazy for not knowing this ghetto hotel makes you press buttons to get hot water! On top of that the pipes make Extremely Loud Noises after anyone takes a shower. The girl at the front desk was super rude she let everybody get their rooms before us and then had an attitude when I demanded my room after sitting there for 3 plus hours. Oh just to have their so called new trainee try to ask for my ID again after I already gave it to the first girl as if I'm a criminal what a jerk off! Fyi he wasnt even the one checking me in.This place is a nightmare I can't even understand so many high stars people gave, obviously people are used to low end hotels which this one is. Can't believe how awful some of the service is for the spa / pool. The front desk people at Exhale we're great but once your actually downstairs you will get a great massage and then from there is no service from there. Towel rack empty and no one at the desk to provide your with one. Going to the pool the server greets us with "the pool closes at 7" exact words. No welcome feel what so ever. We find a place to sit but no one come over of the 3 people huddled around the umbrella. I walk over ask for 2 towels. We then wait to see if we are going to have one of them walk over to offer pool service... nothing. I then walk over to the outside bar of Area 31 and purchase a bottle of Prosecco. As we walk back to our spots the same guy who told us the pool is closing finally comes over to us once he realized he just missed out on a bottle and tells us we can't sit here it's $250. I haven't seen such a horrible employee at a world class hotel in my life. Zero service, zero hospitality. I am in shock. Security understood where we were coming from cane to EPIC for a spa day of relaxation and got complete opposite. Unbelievable read more

I was in Miami for a caribbean cruise and stayed here for a night. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! When I first stepped into the lobby I was immediately impressed. The interior design was very upscale, the celings extremely high, and they even had a very elegant christmas tree set up. We stayed in their Cityview Deluxe room which was very nice. I especially loved their rain showerhead! Their room service was very fast and hotel staff extremely friendly. I would definitely stay here again. Also, prior to booking the reservation, I had found a great deal online for a room here. I called them to see if they would pricematch and they did! This hotel should absolutely be your top choice in the downtown Miami area. read more

The hotel is beautiful, but the valet is terrible. You always have to wait at least 30 minutes for your car, but the last time I was there, in December, I was still waiting after 45 minutes, so I went to check with the desk. They couldn't figure out what happened to my car. Finally they told me they had lost my keys. Then, after about an hour, it showed up. Either they lost my keys or took it for a joy ride and didn't expect me to leave so soon. I was there for an event and had to catch a flight early the next morning, so I didn't stay long, and I am guessing that caught them by surprise.
