The staff on the phone, in person and certainly those giving the massages were very attentive and wonderful. I would never get another one again. I came here because of the reviews on yelp and Google. The other reviews have to be fake about massages. The facial cleansing was amazing. I did enjoy it. My face was smooth and felt refreshed after I left. They used several scrubs and creams to make my face super smooth. If not for the blanket issue below, I would come back for this service. My worst complaint of all, this building is 80+ degrees. On top of that, they MAKE YOU (you don't have an option) to wear a sheet and blanket. I was soaked in sweat after my facial and massage. Extremely uncomfortable. Lastly, they gave me hot tea at the end. I did not expect it to be hot tea when it's currently 86 degrees outside. Who wants something hot to drink when it's blazing outside. Got an hour neuromuscular therapeutic massage from carlos and omg..so amazing..ive had hundreds of massages and this one is up there as top 3..and ive had massages at the chuan spa at the langham in Chicago. He massaged my whole body but I requested for him to focus on my upper shoulders and neck and this is one of the few times a therapist actually did so and didnt just do it for 5 minutes. Amazing technique and attention to detail. He also had a few surprising additions that I didnt expect like a weighted heat pad on my eyes and under my neck as well as my stomach and a cool device that vibrates my head. I was welcomed eagerly offered tea and the space you wait in is lovely- clean cute and MY GOSH THIS PLACE SMELLS SO GOOD WTT!! I dunno what they burn or whatever but o m g every room smells so insanely delicious. The tea is David's tea which is one of my fave tea brands and the decaf one they made me was absolutely delicious. Front desk was super sweet and helpful. Now the massage- OMG!! This is the first ever massage I've had so I went with my husband who grew up in asia and has had many. The staff were SO kind! I was really nervous bc I've only really ever seen massages on tv and the undressing freaked me out but I felt so comfortable. I wasn't brave enough to go nude but they said I can be completely clothed to nude to that's an option. My masseuse was as verbal but not overly so. Just making sure I was comfortable and the pressure was right. It was awesome! The beds are heated which is delicious! I also love the heated eye mask and pillow for when you turn around! Scheduled a couples 1015am Relax, Refresh, Renew massage package. This included a Swedish/ Deep tissue 60 min massage, a 30min body scrub and a scalp treatment. We decided to add a essential oils eucalyptus treatment. We got on our bikes from 39th and it took us about 20 min to arrive. Alejandro is the man! I was a bit prideful which prevented me from having him decrease the pressure as it was intense. Upon arrival, Tao Spa was clean and inviting, and we started our massages exactly on time. I had Tibasay as a masseuse, and she was great! Tao is like the restaurant at the top of the ski resort mountain: they treat you like crap bc they don't expect you (probably a tourist) to come back. Tourist places have poor service and Tao is no exception, which sucks for me as a potential ongoing client. I have been here twice for 2 separate massages. "High" lights: - Mediocre massage from kind but lacking therapist who did not know her muscle groups and was stuck in surface effleurage. I requested she go deeper in specific areas several times before I realized she simply didn't know how. - Phone and email confirmation for a female therapist I had requested, but when I arrived, it was a man. Apology? Nope. Instead, I was blamed for their last minute switch. - When I asked for a small discount for being forced to reschedule, the manager said it was my fault bc I hadn't answered my phone when they called with a day-before confirmation. Ok, but you also didn't leave a message? Am I supposed to wait by my phone for your call, just so I can be sure I get what your email confirmation said Id get? - They finally agreed to a 10% discount, which they didn't even process. I left a nice tip anyway bc I am nice. Also I just wanted to leave, after being spoken to so defensively. 2 stars bc both massage therapists were quite personable and nice. But I will never, ever come back as the hyper-defensive management will 100% treat you like crap and blame you if they do anything wrong. Like the tourist ski resort, they assume you'll just ski down the mountain and never return to complain about their undercooked, $15 cup of microwaved ramen. TLDR: come here for your mediocre massage and bad customer service. read more
