This used to be the Hampton Inn, but has been revamped into a Kimpton hotel. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and there's a great work space with plenty of outlets to charge up! This hotel has been an absolute nightmare to deal with. I was hit with a smoke fee even though I did not smoke, do not smoke, and there was absolutely no smoking in my room. The hotel has completely ignored my repeated attempts to resolve the issue and $576 overcharge. They continue to hold my money with zero communication, zero explanation, and zero accountability. It's unacceptable for a hotel to make an unfounded accusation, charge a guest for something they didn't do, and then refuse to respond. If you value honesty, transparency, and basic customer service, stay far away from this place. This experience has been frustrating, unprofessional, and completely disrespectful to guests. read more

Good location for theatre visitors. The staff here is attentive. Clean room , comfy beds and hot water in the shower with good pressure. Visit the rooftop restaurant and bar for happy hour. It's great, the food is phenomenal with super city views and drinks. Yes, there is construction next door. A large building that will take years to complete. When I first arrived & tried to open the front door to enter the hotel, one of the porters nearly knocked me over with a luggage cart! He never apologized or even acknowledged me. These "luggage employees" never again helped anyone nor opened a door. They stood next to the door, looking at their phones, staring into space, or chatting amongst themselves. The only help they'd give is occasionally pushing the handicapped button for one of the two doors. What are these being paid? Whatever it is, it's too much! The front desk staff was not welcoming nor helpful. The only staff that was nice was housekeeping. This hotel is still being remodeled. The bathrooms are so small that you must close the door to even turn around. The door doesn't open completely because the shower is in the way. The walls are not finished & those that are done, are decorated poorly. The bed is VERY soft (cheap mattresses) and the noise from 8th Avenue is terrible. These are just single pane windows that open with a twist of a handle. They are gigantic windows, and there's nothing you can do stop people from falling out. How is this legal?!? I was told, twice, that a manager would call me regarding problems I encountered during my 13 night stay. I have yet to hear from any manager. I'll never stay here again. Terrible hotel. read more

It's a no from me! I had to unfortunately stay here as it was the only hotel with openings during a super busy work week. Check in took almost 40 minutes and the hotel is dingy and gross. My floors had not been vacuumed and there was random change on the floor by my bed which had been there forever. I was too afraid to even put my bare feet on the floor. Paint is peeling, the ceiling looked like it had a leak and the fire alarm went off at 5 am the first night I was there. Would never recommend this place! read more

And, you get a free breakfast each day you stay there! The place is old and can be a bit too crowded for some people. Our plastic shower curtain was stained but not too gross to use. Before I even arrived, Marilyn at the front desk gave A1 service! When there was a glitch with reservations, she reconfirmed me and helped me book a second night. Once we arrived, both Nancy and Marilyn were super nice. We got in really early and a room wasn't ready, but they held our bags while we got breakfast. By the time we were back in the afternoon, we were set. I love that they give water bottles -- which is small but a huge help in 100 degree weather. They also provide breakfast, but right now its brown bagged. It included yogurt, a banana and boiled egg. I do wish there were better options like bread or muffins. The room was fine, not over the top but just what I expected. Decent amount of space, clean, and a comfy bed. The location is great, the train is right across the street and we walked to times square and central park. Lots of restaurants in walking distance too! I would definitely stay here again. read more

Sometimes I am super nervous about a chain hotel in the city but this Hampton Inn was absolutely perfect. Six floors. Great location. Nicest front desk staff. Clean rooms. Plenty of space for me to stay here with my kids. Highly recommend. We will be back. We came on a Tuesday night - March 2022 - so a little cold, a little covid - but this was readily available and had the best price that I found. We are loyal to Hilton properties so I didn't make my search much wider than those. read more

Had a repeated problem with my wife's key, but it turns out they record them with a fairly weak magnetic signal, and my wife was trying to store her key in her maglock iPhone case which was continuously killing the magnetic key signature. So keep your key in your pocket away from even a weak magnet. Menus near the front desk direct you to Ray's Pizza and the Galactic Diner. If you're looking for good Italian food, walk across the street to Fiorentina's. Excellent hot food and reasonably priced food (for Manhattan). Insomnia Cookies around the block is recommended if you're in the mood for a treat. All in all, very pleased with our brief stay here. read more

Great location of this hotel- super accessible and walking distance to Times Square. Check in was quite easy and seamless and surprisingly our rooms were able to check in around noon. I didn't find the hotel dated as most are suggesting. The elevators are a bit slow, but my room on the 6th floor was clean, updated and actually quite spacious especially for being in NYC. There is also the signature free Hampton inn breakfast (I didn't take advantage of it so can't speak to the quality or experience of that piece). The lobby has enough seating as well. My only gripe was the bag check attendants hovering over me and blatantly asking for a tip as they handed me my duffle- I have no issue doing so, but the way it was handled felt super uncomfortable on that piece. read more

Second Hilton in a month that has been a bad experience. Flat pillows, can y'all not provide some with actual stuffing? Random stuff (I'm choosing to assume paint) on the walls, random nasty stain on the bedding and dirty room. Elevators are awful, there's only 2 so unless you leave/come super early or late you will wait a long time. One day we waited 40 min. Staff was nice and helpful and breakfast was what you'd expect. Wow, this used to be our favorite place to stay in the theater district. How the mighty have fallen. AC in the lobby was bad, the AC in the room was nonexistent. The ice machine on our floor was broke. One of the two elevators broke while we were there. Generally the place isn't being kept up. It feels run down and tied. We won't be back. The only reason this place got two stars instead of one was because of the location. It's walkable to just about everything. The room was one of the worst Hampton rooms I've stayed in. You could see the mold in the shower. There was rust on the doorframes. The door to the bathroom might as well not have even been there as there was a giant gap which allowed little to no privacy. It also didn't necessarily feel safe in our room. The door didn't lock because it was bowed so the deadbolt was useless. I was uneasy most of the time which also meant I didn't get to rest and appreciate my vacation. The staff was friendly except for the girl checking for vaccination cards during breakfast. I ran down to just grab a muffin and a cup of coffee. I was unaware I would also need a vaccine card to enter the breakfast area that I couldn't get into without showing a hotel key for the hotel that I had to show a vaccine card to even enter. Which makes perfect sense (only not really). I don't mind showing it but I wasn't staying to eat and the girl was rude about it which was frustrating. Overall I wouldn't stay there again. We booked this hotel for 1 night due to location to subway and its promixy to but not in Times Square. The room was AMAZING! SUPER CLEAN, ROOMY. The concierge who checked in our luggage super friendly. Breakfast was busy but amazing to find breakfast included in NYC. Overall hotel was outstanding and we will come back and recommend to our friends. Our only complaint was parking. I prebooked 1 day of parking but we went to a museum the next day and it was $60 for the day! Had I know day 2 would be that expensive I would of parked elsewhere. We spent $100 in parking which was half our hotel stay. I think the parking is out of their hands, I recommend a little more info on the website to set expectations about daily charge outside the pre-book rate. We have just spent 3 nights in this hotel and it is by far and away the worst hotel I have experienced 1) check in was slow with only one staff member on the front desk. We had arrived early and asked to be called when our room was ready but they didn't call 2) Both lifts were broken with them manually managing one lift, however you could not call the lift to your floor so after 30 mins of waiting one morning we were forced to climb down 393 stairs to avoid missing a tour booking 3) although breakfast is provided, it is basic and served on paper plates and cups with plastic cutlery. 4) wallpaper is peeling off the wall 5) as noted by other reviews the rooms are tiny with no room to fit at the desk chair 6) most importantly the staff we encountered were exceptionally rude and unprofessional making no effort to assist guests read more

Was disappointed in experience at this location. I unpacked and then found my deadbolt didn't work. Repacked, switched rooms, unpacked, tried to take a shower. Water was only scalding hot. Reported problem and was told that was "interesting." Nope, it's annoying. Packed again, changed rooms again. And for first 3 days their key machine did not work, guests had to wait to be accompanied to be let in room. After a week here, I was extending stay in NYC for 2 more weeks and sought an extended stay price. They could do nothing for me. Got a better deal at Courtyard Marriott and moved. No problems there!! Stayed one night after getting this hotel through Hotwire. Great location as the C and E subway lines are right across the streets and Times Square is a couple of blocks south. Paid parking was right next door. Check in was smooth as the staff was super friendly. My room was on the second floor. Two elevators were fairly quick. This hotel is definitely older and wear/tear is easily visible on the bedroom and bathroom walls. No microwave or mini fridge which was disappointing! Beds were comfortable; comforter was questionably clean but I threw it off onto the floor. Bathroom was super small and smelled musty. Neutregena products were given and plenty of towels provided. Breakfast was your typical continental breakfast (waffles, eggs, yogurt, cereal etc); they had a very large eating area so plenty of seats for everyone. They definitely need to upgrade this place as it is wayyy below the standards of other Hampton Inns that I've been to....but for less than $100/night I can't really complain too much. read more

Whoever the front desk person is 11/2 at 12am needs to be coached and developed lacks customer service skills and literally will dictate what questions he will ask based on your skin color. I entered the hotel right after a white male who was asked for a room number and their name. I was asked immediately after him for my name, the room number and the guest first and last name and then was told "sorry the room isn't listed under that name, you sure you at the right place?" Sadly, this was from another BIPOC. Then when i asked why I was not treated the same I was told because "he came correct". The employee than asked for me to take a seat and move away from him because I asked about his differential treatment. The best part was him yelling about how "I don't pay his check and he can do as he wants" The employee needs a racial bias and customer service fundamentals training ASAP!! CONS: The hotel needs a revamp. Our room was dingy and worn, curtains dirty, wallpaper peeling off, our toilet wouldn't flush well unless we took the tank top off, we had to connect the chain to the plunger many times, our a/c didn't work when we first checked in and had to be repaired, and one of the bellhops kept stopping my friend to ask for her hotel key card b/c he didn't believe she was staying there. PROS: There's a free breakfast bar (but not vegan or vegetarian friendly) and it's in a very convenient location to subway stops, Times Square, Central Park, Broadway, etc. Other than that one bellhop, the staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Great location but not my favorite stay. I stayed here for five nights in April from Orange County. We booked pretty far in advance and we only booked through them because I am a Hilton member. Here are my pros and cons of this place: Pros: - Perfect location. It was close to Time Square but far enough away from it. It was also nearby stations for quick access. - Comfortable stay. The beds were comfortable. - Pretty spacious. Our room and bathroom was a good size. - Complementary late check-out - Complementary luggage hold for those there early (no early check-in though) Cons: - The people working here were definitely not friendly. Never a "hi" or "goodbye" when leaving. They all had straight faces. And we walked in and out a lot. - Staff is unprofessional. One of the guys that takes your bags had his car serviced right in front of the hotel. The rest of the staff was chatting it up and laughing at him. Ghetto. - AC was either super cold or not enough. Nothing in between. - Complementary breakfast was crazy. I never got a chance to actual eat here because every time I came down it was a mad house. They even had a sign that said you needed to go before a certain time. Basically you can forget about it after 8am. The person I came with did get a chance to eat here and he said all the food was nasty. - No early check-in but they were able to take our luggage Besides the location I am not loving this place and probably wont stay here again. read more

Stayed here for a total of 3 nights. The pros-- the location is ideal - north Times Square, south of Central Park! The room has the basics necessities. The front desk staff was helpful and kind. The cons were that our bathtub drainage was poor. The water drained very slowly as I showered. We were woken up by a false fire alarm at 8AM on our second day and we had to inconveniently leave around 10am on our final day because the water and electricity was going to turn off for maintenance. Hampton hotels are under the Hilton umbrella. The goal is to try to spend my points to get hotel rooms and not spend money. Who doesn't like to save money? I have stayed at many Hilton's in NYC and this one is more like 3 1/2 stars but I'm rounding to 4. Pros: 1. LOCATION!!! It's in a great location. Close to tons of Broadway plays, Time Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Radio Hall and more. It's located right between 51st and 52nd off 8th street. The con is expect tourist prices. You're in the middle of everything. 2. Free breakfast from 6-10am. Yay for free! They include eggs, cereal, yogurt, bacon, lots of bread and waffles. There were other foods too but I can't remember everything. The con is you need to make your own waffles, toast your own bread (something was burning and broken when I was there), no fresh juices and some of the food was cold even though we were there around 8. Service from some of the staff in that area was horrible. One of the ladies was pretty rude. Things seemed like a mess...or maybe all the customers were wrecking the area. 3. The room was a good size, beds were comfy, and everything was pretty clean. Don't expect any good views from any rooms in the hotel. Since they are a small hotel. I was happy that we could at least see out to the street. 4. There was a vending machine on our floor and a small store downstairs. Sodas were about $1.75, which was cheaper than some vendors outside. 5. There wasn't a long wait time for elevators and check in and out was smooth. Other Hilton's aren't always that great. Cons: 1. The service was inconsistent. Some staff were really great staff and some were a little snotty. Overall service wasn't bad though. 2. This Hampton Inn is pretty small. Which is not exactly a problem but on the phone the lady said she would request a room with a balcony for us because I'm a gold member but this hotel doesn't have any rooms with a balcony or views. 3. There are no refrigerators inside the rooms. The guy was nice enough to set one up free of charge. Also no good coffee maker. Just a tiny cheap one. Good thing Starbucks and other coffee shops are just a block away. 4. The room was quiet but it smelled a little like mildew. Not a huge problem because we really only use the room to sleep. Overall I would stay here again but it's not my first choice. read more

Some things are best experienced just once. Tax audits, root canals, and this hotel would fall on that list. First off, let me say that this hotel is staffed by some of the friendliest and nicest people in the world. Sandra at the front desk is a stellar staff member and makes you feel like you're the most important person in the world when you're speaking with her. The issues with this hotel have nothing to do with the staff. The issues with the hotel have to do with, well, the hotel. What can I say except it's older and a bit dated. The furniture is chipped and worn; my room smelled like mildew; the grout in the shower was blackened; the AC stopped working on the final day I was there; there was chipped pieces of plaster just laying on the window sill that had apparently come off of the wall. To be fair, this is a tourist hotel and I made the mistake of booking there as a business traveller. As such, expect to wait a bit for a free elevator in the mornings and early evenings and don't even bother attempting to battle your way through the free continental breakfast (but also it's NYC so just walk a couple blocks and get a bagel you cheapskate). Maybe this sort of situation suits your fancy and if so, have at it. But, in my opinion, this hotel is kind of like marrying your high school sweetheart- sure it kind of seems cute at first but ultimately you can do better and just need to get out there more. read more

This hotel was decently reviewed, priced and a perfect location for our visit so we decided to stay here. It was only a couple of blocks away from Time Square, restaurants and transportation. This hotel is also part of hotels.com. The receptionist staff here were awesome and helpful. The served breakfast was well stocked and better hours (7a-10a). The breakfast area is huge to accommodate the many guests they have. It's a busy hotel. I did notice that anyone can eat here as they don't seem to monitor the area. They do have 24 hour coffee, tea and hot coco for your stay. It was perfect after a cold day walking around. The room were decent and clean but needs a little updating. The beds and pillows were too soft for me but the sheets were clean and soft. No bed bugs found! ;-) The rooms did not smell and their wifi works. The bathroom was decent and well stocked with clean towels. Since they didn't have a air vent, when using the shower, the mirror fogs up; also, causing the wall paper to come off. They need to fix that. My only grip here was the shower head. It needs cleaning and I tried to clean it the best I could before using it. The shower head is not made for tall folks but the head can be easily removed to move freely. I would stay here again due to the accommodation for a decent stay.... read more

So the hotel staff is great and love the bell desk service. The rooms are a bit dated and need some love. The rooms are clean and the AC works great and when it's hit you will appreciate that. The beds are comfy and rooms very clean. The breakfast was ok and typical of all other Hampton's. Not too many selections but the banana waffles are the best. You have to try that. I booked 2 rooms for a 2 night stay in Times Square North in New York City. On Sunday morning after one of my family members got sick we opened the curtains to find black mold all down the wall and under the window seal. My sister had been sleeping 2 feet from where the black mold was. After talking to the front desk they stated they would only refund me 1 nights stay. The next day I called an spoke with the hotel manager Yon G and he told me "I should be lucky they refunded one night". You're in Manhattan so keep your expectations low especially at Hampton Inn prices. The only thing this place has going for it is it's location. It is truly accessible to so many things: walk to Times Square and Central Park, several subway stations around the corner. That part was great. The hotel itself is very dated. If you have a room by the elevator you will hear that all night long so be ready. The hotel only has 2 elevators and you will wait a long time during busy times to catch one. They do clean the rooms daily so that was nice. The breakfast is as good as "free breakfast" can get in Manhattan so set your expectations low. This is one of the cheapest hotels you can find in Manhattan but you get what you pay for. If all you want is a clean place to sleep that is accessible to everything this is it. read more

Breakfast was okay, to get you started for the day. However, it really needs an update, cleaner hallway rugs, like shampooed all the way, update paperwalls and a bit fresh paint - like change of colors. Decor of the rooms should also be looked at. There's no complaint from me with Hampton Inn. It's smack dab in at the heart of Time Square which makes it accessible to walk to other parts of, New York, such as Manhattan, Queens, and the Brooklyn. Upon arrival, I'd say noon-ish, the room wasn't ready to be checked in until 3 pm, so I had time to walk around and familiarize myself with the local businesses, streets, and the overall environment NYC offered. Before heading off, I did leave my luggage securely at the inn because I was not gonna lug that suitcase around with me. Housekeeping and staff did a magnificent job tidying, restocking, and maintaining the entirety of the inn. The room was constantly blasting at 60 degrees, which the thermostat can easily be adjusted to any preferred setting, though, it did help with the aches and soreness from walking throughout town. The sheets, towels, trash bin and ice bucket remain freshly changed, in addition to my bed always being tidy. One of the highlights from this Inn is that they serve breakfast through 10 am with comfortable options to choose from, the food was always very gratifying, in fact, it played a huge role in fueling me through the day. Alas, my three days in New York has come to an end and I must check out by 10 am, at least I got to enjoy Hampton Inn's breakfast one last time. I recognize the staff's integrity and working diligently, and appreciate them. Moreover, during my brief stay in, New York, Hampton Inn represented my dorm room. I'd definitely come back to this hotel should I visit New York City again. read more

The location was fantastic and the staff is very friendly. I didn't have any problems checking in and the staff greeted me each time I came back from being out. The reason for the three stars: this hotel is pretty run down. For the price, I expected something a little nicer. The room smelled old and our door lock was janky. At one point, we got locked in the room and I had to mess with the lock for a while to get it to open. The engineer came up and made some adjustments but I felt uneasy about it for the rest of the stay. What if there was an emergency and we got stuck in? The free breakfast was crazy!! I really couldn't pinpoint exactly why I was super turned off by the breakfast...I don't know if it was the amount of people at it, or the type of food..the staff tried to keep things orderly, but it was a total mess. I ended up eating breakfast out instead of eating there. (Which made the high price for the room seem even worse.) If I was to get a discount offer, I would definitely stay here again. I wouldn't consider staying here for the same amount I spent on this trip though. read more

Air conditioning sub par and engineer changed filter after we complained it was beyond hot and temp would not go down ... totally not a maintenance schedule in this building. Complain, your air sucks and they react... seems a better business model would be be proactive... security is a joke! They are both so busy buried in their phones on social media they could give a rats arse who comes in and who goes into the elevators. An entire lazy group is employed here. If you want sub par Hilton Hampton and am not into security and modern amenities then stay here. Plugs to charge your devices are on the floor and won't hold your plugs, they slip right out due to no grip. Avoid this old hotel until they upgrade... nasty old bathtub and dated tile. read more

Perfect location for walking to theaters and restaurants. The front desk staff is pleasant and always helpful. I will say the cleanliness of the bathrooms needs improvement but I ALWAYS travel with disinfectant and quickly give it a freshen up. I love that there's a coffee maker in each room and the included breakfast is definitely a plus in a city where everything is pricey. read more

I delayed this review hoping the hotel would make things right but they haven't. Date of our stay was November 20, 2022. The problem? No hot water. We returned to hotel late in evening so we just brushed out teeth and went to bed. Come Monday morning cold showers. Due to business meetings we had to leave before management arrived for the day so I called and left a message for the manager later in the day. No return call. Through the chat feature on the website I was told they would get back to me later. Never happened. Contacted Hilton and they gave me 15,000 points on my Hilton Honors account which I don't think is adequate. Hot water is essential not a luxury so a total refund should be the solution and an apology would be nice. The moral of the story is if you stay at this hotel check to make sure you have hot water before you accept the room assignment. read more

Honestly, I did not expect this hotel to give me the amount of trouble and inconvenience it did. I've never had such an experience at any hotel I've stayed at. I am from CA and stayed at this hotel for a week and really wish I did more research before staying here. 1. I didn't know you had to rent a fridge for $20 until my second to last day here so a ton of food went to waste. I really wish they would've let us know that it was even an option because I have never been in a hotel without a fridge. I also did not know that there was a microwave available downstairs until I asked someone. At one point in my trip I called the front desk and asked for face towels and pillow cases -- they came back with large towels and medium towels (the towels leave a bunch of lint on your body btw). The next day I asked for toilet paper. We never received the toilet paper lol. They called and even asked if we received it but we never did. If my husband didn't find a closet and grab some we would've had to call again. The WIFI did not work when we first got here and I had to call tech support. The location of the hotel was probably the best thing about it but you could probably get better somewhere else anyways without all of the inconvenience. read more

We have stayed here in the past few years and found it clean and maintained. BUT this stay, Nov. 10-Nov 17, 2021, it was extremely disappointing and shockingly poorly maintained!! There was only a "flip lock" on the door, no bolt like before. The sink in the bathroom was clogged and it took about 10 minutes of running the water to get any hot water. The wallpaper was peeling and wood was stripped from the door leaving it sharp to the touch. We let the management know and they didn't seem to be concerned. read more

We've stayed here twice. The first time was a five star stay, the second was worth two or three. I love that it has the look and feel of a small town hotel, in the big city. Great location, short walk to Times Square. The continental breakfast puts it over the top. The issue with our last stay was the building-wide AC inefficiency this summer. It was in the mid 90s, and our room didn't get below 75 degrees with the AC on full blast the entire time we were there. We came inside from our walks around the city, sweating with not much refuge. We called the front desk, they said they'd have someone from maintenance come right up. A couple hours later they showed up and changed the (very dirty) AC filter. The air blew stronger but it never cooled any further. I called the front desk back, at first they said they'd have someone come back and try to work on it more, and after no one came, I went down to speak with them and they said "Everyone's having the same problem, the building is really old, there's nothing we can do." I found that interesting since the hotel advertises itself as new, but apparently the building is so old that basic comforts are out of the question. I've spent nights in markedly old hotels, I've never once had an issue with the air conditioning in any other hotel. I was told that a credit would be possible for the uncomfortable stay. They left a note to have a manager call me when they were back on duty. No one called. I called a couple days later and left another message for a manager to call me back. Never got the call. I would've loved to make this our place to stay every time we come to NYC, but we're having doubts. I've never encountered a hotel with no AC and management that doesn't do what they can do alleviate a negative stay. read more

My current stay at Hampton Inn Manhattan-Times Square North was disappointing. The first taste of dissatisfaction happened before check in because of inadequate parking accommodation and communication with attendant. We arrived early and checked our bags withe the bell hop and was told we would be notified when our room was ready. We were not notified. After spending the day taking in the sights we checked in. Upon exhaustively entering our room we quickly learned we were assigned someone else's room there personal things we in there so we knew. We immediately went back down to notify the front desk. We were assigned a different room. When we woke I realized I forgot my toothbrush and toothpaste so I asked the gentleman at the front desk. He was unable to locate the items so he said he would send someone up, of course waking my wife at 5 am. I continued to get ready for the day then the hot water wouldn't work. I picked up the phone to notify the front desk but the phone would not work. So I walked back down to the front desk and the gentleman rudely told me the pipes were old and I needed to let the water run for 10 minutes before I could experience hot water. I am not checked out yet but I'm sure there are more thing to go wrong. I do not recommend this hotel read more
