I went to this business and inquire about if I could just get my pants hemmed maybe a half an inch and the owner told me it would be $48 then I want it bypass to be bring in just a inch. She told me it would be $45 for a pair of pants that cost me under $20. They wanted to charge me over $80 just to do minor minor alterations. No thank you. I live in Los Angeles and their prices are not that astronomical. Please do better read more

Avoid this place! Kim's was recommended to us by a local store for prom dress alterations. We were given a pick up time and paid in advance. I felt the charge was a steep, but didn't question it based upon the recommendation. We walked in during our pick up time to see my daughter's dress quickly being done. She tried it on and nothing had been done to the top of the dress which was one of the areas she had marked to do. Our pick up was the day of prom, and she was unwilling to do anything to correct it sooner than late afternoon, which was too late for us (photos, dinner, etc). Her reasoning was because she had other pick up appointments coming in, but we were there during our pick up time. We don't understand why she did not do a little more to try to help us, or find some way to make it so that my daughter could comfortably wear her dress even if it was a temporary fix to get her through. We left there with my daughter sobbing that she did not have a dress to wear to prom, and we paid for alterations that we did not receive and no refund for the work that wasn't done. Ok work interesting customer service. I had a pair of pants hemmed here as I had just moved from another state and needed a new tailor. When I went in she was very short, not quite rude, but short with me. When she measured she put one safety pin in one side of my pants and that was all she did. When I received the pants they were ok but not perfect as they could of been with a little more care and time in measuring both sides, maybe a chalk mark, I don't know, I can only base it on what every other tailor in my life has done. read more

I ordered 3 maxi dresses on-line from a boutique in North Carolina. I adore the patterns of material but it didn't show in the pictures how wide the sleeves were. They were big puffy sleeves, plus two of the dresses had Elizabethan collars. I tried on the dresses, told her what I wanted and even brought a dress to show her. I asked her to just cut the collar and make it a v-neck like the one dress I did like. I was surprised to pay her up front. $214. cash for the three dresses. I was a little apprehensive but was absolutely thrilled when I saw the dresses.. Not only had she cut down the sleeves but she put a button in exactly like the dress I liked. Mrs. Kim might not have a lot of social skills but she is an excellent seamstress. I love her work!! read more

I chose Kims based on seeing some good reviews about prices and quality of work. I regret my decision to use Kim's alterations. When I first came by to drop off my bridesmaid dress and ask about whether she'd have time to get it done before the wedding, she was very cold and didn't even say hello. She was very short with me and hurried me to quickly throw on the dress and leave. I felt like I was being shooed out. She also made me pay for the alterations upfront and I regret that for sure. We had agreed on a day and time for me to pick up the dress and when I showed up (even later than originally was said) she said it wasn't started yet. Instead of apologizing and being kind, she told me to come back at a later time and shooed me out again. I came back to pick it up when she said and she didn't even let me try it on to make sure it was all good, just shooed me out quickly, not bothered at all that I had to come back a second time because it wasn't ready. Finally, I tried on the dress at home and it doesn't fit any better than when I had it originally. I can tell she did at least one of the things we talked about but it still isn't fitting correctly. I now am having to get help fixing it a day before this wedding that I'm in. The price was ridiculous - double what I paid for the dress even - and you can barely tell a difference in the dress I brought in and the dress I took home. Very disappointed and wish I could get my money back. read more

She did a good job, but definitively not worth spending $96 DOLLARS to slightly shorten and take in a dress. She also gave me a set date and time when it would be ready. I came by hours after this time just in case she needed more. However, it wasn't ready. She wanted to push the pick-up date to the next day, but I refused. Also, this place was cash only! I'd 100% suggest to look somewhere else first before going to this location. I went to this location due to the ratings on Yelp, but it truthfully isn't worth the price. Extremely expensive, but she did good work. However, it was for a wedding and she wanted 2 more days. I said no because I couldn't wait. She said 6 hours after the agreed time and we still had to wait a half an hour. read more

Unprofessional, lazy, careless. That's how I would describe the "service" I received at Kim's Alterations. I wanted my vintage fur scarf repaired/altered. On 11/17/13 I took it to Kim's alterations to see if they could fix the scarf and how much it would cost. The owner, who was very hard to understand, told me she could fix my scarf and gave me a pick up date of 12/6/13. Almost a three week window to complete the alterations. Plenty of time to get the alteration completed. So I thought. I went to pick up my scarf on 12/7/13 the owner laughed, said the scarf wasn't done. Never apologized for her oversight. just laughed and acted like she didn't care nor did it matter to her. I asked her if she could get it done in the next few days considering I was really inconvenienced, waiting over three weeks for this scarf to be fixed. The owner said she could have it done in several days time and to come back today, on 12/10/13. (Get this!) Today, when I went to pick up my scarf, she said she couldn't fix it. Huh!?!? After stringing me along (pardon the pun) for almost a month, you tell me you can't help me??!! Un-be-lieve-able!! The owner never apologized for what she did, or in this case, didn't do. I don't know how this woman stays in business. Her unbusiness-like, unprofessional and lax disposition was horrible and unacceptable. Really really really really bad service. I recommend if you have any alterations to be done in the South Bend area go somewhere else. Don't bother with Kim's Alterations. read more

I came in with a jacket and a few pairs of pants, all in need of tailoring on short notice. The woman who helped me actually said she'd stay late on a Saturday night to get them done before I left town. What awesome service. I'm sure it is annoying to have a new customer asking for a quick turnaround, but she was SO friendly and the prices were more than fair. Everything fits wonderfully. I'm recommending Kim's to all my friends! And I'll be back this fall with the cardigans and jackets! read more

I bought my prom dress with a broken clasp on the top. I took it in to get it fixed and to remove the train which I thought would get annoying through the night. She also wanted to shorten the dress a bit, which seemed like a good idea. The alterations were a bit pricey ($80), but when I picked it up I was very happy with the results. Skip to prom night; my dress clasp broke halfway through the dance, so I found some safety pins to hold my dress together for the rest of the night!! I had another prom I needed the dress for, so I took it back and explained my problem. She fixed it right away, in front of me (free of charge)! Kim is an amazing seamstress and I would defiantly go back, and recommend her to everyone! read more

My fiancé had a zippered sweatshirt for about a month when the tab came off the pull. Broke right off. Metal. So I took it to Mrs Kim. I figured she'd be busy and that I'd come back for it later in the day. Nope. She looked it over to check to see if any teeth were missing. Since it was just the pull, she popped off the pull, slid on a new one and had me out the door in under 3 minutes! And her price was reasonable! We were delightfully surprised. She said my pants, inseam reduced to 26 inches, would be ready Friday. I arrived about 2 p.m. They were not ready. She said ready at 4 p.m. Ready Friday to me means ready when the shop opens. Had to make an extra trip. GRRRRR! read more

Great work, the drapes were hemmed nicely. HOWEVER, if they provide you with a time the job will be done, call first!! When I arrived at the scheduled time, the drapes had not even been started. I was told noon, still not started! Decided to ask for a call when the drapes would be done since I live about a 30-minute drive away. At 4:00p, I received a call that they were done. Why not just say - I'll call you when they are finished!! read more

My husband and I took many items to Kim's to be altered and she did a fantastic job. My husband's pants were altered in the waist, legs and seat and my skirts and dresses were altered in the waist and hips. We had many different types of materials and sizes but they all fit perfectly and the alterations are barely noticeable. We are thrilled with her work and will definitely return!! read more

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!! Only getting 1 star because I have to in order to post this. Such a rip off!! I had my daughter's dress altered here. I went to pick up and to my surprise it still DOES NOT fit!!! Does the woman offer to fix it or even take money off of the so called alteration she did??? NO!! $48 down the drain and now I have to take it to someone else to fix!! This place is NOT recommended by me. I went to this shop because of all the high ratings on Yelp. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! I dropped off four new maxi dresses and told her I wanted them to touch my toes, and when I tried them on I even pointed out what parts of the pattern I wanted cut. Also one of the buttons on the dress came apart and I asked for her to sew it back on. She instead sewed the dress together and tossed out the button so there's no slack and it's uncomfortable to put on. Also ALL four dresses are to my ankle and look absolutely ridiculous! Lastly she said she accepts card on the phone but when I came in she told me to bring cash, probably to not get taxes deducted. She also charges whatever she wants. For one shortening on the length she charged 18$ and for another shortening it was $21. For the same material! I am so furious and there's absolutely no way to fix these. She sewed the dresses however she wanted with no regard to what I asked. I am so frustrated and now I have four capri length maxi dresses. Plus she didn't know I was Korean and was complaining in Korean to herself so I understood her. I don't even want to give her this one star. I will never go back. read more
