I was looking forward to a haircut. I am a transgender man. I am only comfortable going to barbershops, as I am a man and get men's haircuts. When I stood to go to an open chair, I was told that I could not because I had to wait for the barber who cuts women's hair. I experience things like this every day, and this was the third time today someone has brought me to tears over calling me a woman or ma'am. This is so harmful. If you are trans looking for an accepting, compassionate, and inclusive barbershop, this isn't it. I was going to sit down and wait, but my wonderful husband encouraged me to walk out, considering he wasn't interested in a haircut from someone who did me great harm, either. I do not understand why me having breasts and a vagina impacts my hair. I do not understand why a men's barber refused to give me a men's haircut. And even if they had, I'm sure they would have charged me extra because of how I look. I am not interested in paying a titty tax. Especially not to people who made me cry and feel like less than human. Unless i am asking you to trim my pubic hair, I fail to understand what my genitals (which were not on display) have to do with the hair growing from my scalp. It is 2022. I have gone to this shop periodically for the past 35 years, when I was sporadically living in the area. Always got a good and reasonable haircut. Just came back from an extended vacation and my hair and beard needed cutting. Went out of my way to go there (I live 30 minutes away) and learned that the owner had retired (that's ok - I am not fixated on any one barber - but she was very good). Literally got the worst haircut I can remember. As it was happening, I realized that she was going about it differently than any other barber I have used (neither using clippers as they should be used or scissors, but rather using clippers as scissors). And she used an electric razor to trim my neck rather than a straight or safety razor. After I left, I realized that my hair was different lengths on each side, as was my beard, and that she had trimmed my mustache so far from my upper lip that it will take a week to look normal. I had to go to another barber to get it all sorted out. And it was not inexpensive at all - about the same cost of my regular barber. That is $48 (40 + 8 tip) I wish I had back. I had seen some very bad reviews but thought that they were just too particular customers, but now I know that they were accurate. read more

I'm sure the cut depends on the lady doing the cutting - I got the older lady - but I will not be coming back to see how good the others are. One of the worst cuts I've had in the past 10 years, at least. Positives: She did it the way I asked for. That's why this is a 2 star rating and not 1 star. Negatives: She did it very poorly. I spent more time trimming up the areas she missed after I got home than I did in the barber's chair. Maybe she was having a bad day, but ... no repeat business from me. I would have gladly sacrificed the neck and shoulder massage for an actually good haircut. I swear I'm not picky about this stuff, but you would have had to have been blind not to see the unfinished areas, to not see the obvious errant hairs she missed. I was shocked, frankly. I just moved to the area and I found this barbershop on Yelp. This is a korean barbershop. All barbers are older Korean ladies. This is my 3rd haircut here from 3 different barbers so decided its time to give them a review. For $13 haircut + tips (don't forget to tip), this place is definitely a good quality haircut. And you a get a mini head, scalp and shoulders massage after. I had a better haircut BUT that was from the same barber I have been going for years. Made the mistake of letting the heavyset, older woman cut my hair. She yanked and pulled my head in ever direction without any warning or care, dug the scissors and razor into my scalp, cut my hair unevenly (while completely missing others), and barely spoke to me (I got more conversation going out the door from the other staff than I got from her). I've been coming to Kim's every three weeks for almost a year now, which says something because I am extremely picky about who cuts my hair. I'll generally give a barber a few tries to get it just right, and then if I'm still not satisfied, move on to the next barber shop. My barber of choice is Jung. For the money, she does a solid job, and isn't excessively chatty (actually, none of the ladies are, which is something I appreciate in a barber shop). When you go to any new barbershop or hair stylist, you have to find a barber or a hairstylist that you like and stick with him or her. It took me three trial and error(?), but found a barber who does a wonderful job and the way I wanted. That was 2012, and I'm still coming to the shop and to her. The only reason this got over 1 star was the price, it was cheep. The lady cut my hair super fast and did not do as asked. When checking if it looked ok at the end, I said no I wanted it much shorter. She proceeded to cut it very poorly to save time and shorten it up, but still did not cut it as short as requested. read more

This place is so inconsistent. My husband and son usually go here because the staff are so nice to my four year old, but we will not be coming back. Third time here and I've been happy every time. You can't go wrong for $13. Barbers are efficient and friendly. This is the only place I've ever gotten my hair cut with classical music playing in the background, a nice touch.
