Whisk is simply one of the best lunch/bakery/catering places you will find in the Ohio Valley. We…read moreeat there almost weekly for lunch (and of course to grab a couple flavors of cupcakes to try!), have used them many many times to cater small events (bridal showers, birthdays, etc) and recently asked them if they could make cupcakes for the cookie table for our wedding! I think the total came out to just shy of 500 mini-cupcakes in 5 different flavors... They were all beautiful (photo credit: Hannah Barlow Photography) and absolutely DELICIOUS! We were worried with all the cupcakes and cookies from friends that we would have a ton of leftovers, but those cupcakes went FAST! We can't thank or recommend them highly enough, they are the best! Oh, and the cake! They also did our wedding cake, we wanted something small (just for the two of us), elegant, and fun, and they absolutely nailed it! Perfect and delicious and we are not proud of the amount of cake we have eaten - it's just so good!

UPDATED REVIEW:…read more Ordered a round tier cake for a family celebration. Icing flowers on top were beautiful but icing on the side was a combination of too many colors and some bare brown spots(side colors weren't requested but would have been fine if it would have looked better). Buttercream icing tasted delicious however it was too thick and looked like it was used to fill where the top tier was slanted equaling too much icing and not enough cake. The cake tasted good but not great because the texture was too airy, very crumbly, and lacked some in flavor. Overall my opinion is that it tasted better than some cakes made from a box and even some grocery store cakes but it left a lot to be desired as bakery cake made from scratch. Additionally, I ordered a dozen mixed berry scones. These scones did not taste as good as the scones I ordered from Whisk a couple years ago. I nuked them to soften and warm but unfortunately the mixed berries were hardly tasted or seen and a flour type taste overwhelmed my palate.

The crust is my favorite part of a pie, so to me, hand pies are a nearly perfect dessert because of…read morethe ratio of crust to filling. I visited Centre Market with the intention of just browsing, but I saw American Pies and Pastries in the market, with their immaculate display case of hand pies, and I succumbed. I'm helpless to a fried hand pie. And they had banana cream hand pies! That's what initially drew me in. But in the end, I made an audible and changed my order to a blackberry hand pie at the last second. The blackberry hand pie was a great choice. I am a jam lover. Give me jam with a base like buttery crust or shortbread or something like that, and I am in heaven. The hand pie had just enough jammy blackberry in it, with a glazed tender crust. Lovely. We also got a Boston cream hand pie. (Wow, does that one sound vulgar!) That one was good, too. Sounds indecent, tastes great, with a nice coating of chocolate on the outside. American Pies and Pastries sells several flavors of hand pies -- the ones I mentioned, but also apple, cherry, blueberry, strawberry, lemon, chocolate, coconut cream, and Buckeye (chocolate peanut butter). They also sell cheesecake, brownies and other sweet goodies.

They had quite the variety of fried pie flavors to choose from. They also had brownies, cookies and cheesecakes. Everything was delicious and freshly made. The employee there was friendly and happy to answer any questions that we had. I highly recommend giving this place a try!

Their frozen, blended coffees are outstanding, frozen tea smoothies are great, and their espresso shots will get you going in the morning. The aesthetics are great. Flowers are maintained during the summer, and ducks are fed nearby on the grass, the inside is pretty as well. Chess, checkers, scrabble are available to entertain you and your friends. They sell some WCS merch if you want to rep their coffee joint. They offer free Wi-Fi, which is why I did a lot of my business work here. Parking can be weird, so I usually just park in the nearby plaza. The only thing that makes this place better is its proximity to Avenue Eats. I'd recommend eating at Avenue, then walking 100 feet to Wheeling Coffee Shoppe for desert and coffee, of course. Wonderful little place.

In many of the upper and lower corners, wallpaper is falling off of the walls. There's dustwebs around the ceiling. The baseboard is DISGUSTING. There's a layer of dust on every shelf. Then there's the refusal to get wifi for customers. I've gone in once every 5-6 months to ask if they have wifi so I can work in there, it's nice to work in a coffee shop where you can get drinks and snacks from them for a few hours, but they refuse. Every single time I've gone in for the past 2 years they say, "oh, the wifi is down"...just say you don't want to pay for wifi for your customers. As much as I want to support local small business over chains, at least the chain coffee shops are clean and have working wifi. If a store is this dirty to the customers eye, I don't trust the machines and food storage. I am done trying to support them.
