I really wanted to like this place. I'm a big fan of coffee shops and try to find as many local ones as I can when I travel. This is the oldest coffee roasters in West Virginia. The inside is pretty neat in the seating area. However, when we started to order drinks, they were out of the first two things we wanted...at 11:00... I ended up going with the house blend coffee, and I actually had to throw it out after drinking half of it, it was that bad. Just bitter and undrinkable. I had the group I was with try it too, and they agreed it was bad. To get to the bathroom in the back of the building, you had to walk around trash on the floor and multiple mouse traps. I know it's impossible to avoid mice, but it definitely just kind of throws you off when you have to make sure not to step on a trap. Needless to say, I would probably look for another place unfortunately. read more

The shop was cute and clean. Barista was super friendly but doesn't know how to pull a shot of espresso. No china for in store drinks should have been a red flag. The barista seemed incredulous that we were just ordering espresso. She pulled an 8 oz double shot. That is not a typo. Maybe come for the charm, but don't come for espresso. read more

I was disappointed. I am not from this area, but used YELP to find a coffee house during my drive from Pittsburgh to Columbus. There are not many coffee houses to choose from in this area. The one closest to me was closed at 10:30 am... So I went here. The drink was just not good. My cappuccino featured espresso pumped from a metal carafe, like the one's in the Holiday Inn Express lobby. Not freshly brewed. The steamed and frothed milk? Also from some jug, not frothed for my drink. The resulting beverage lacked flavor, was not hot enough, and could have come from one of those machines at the airport. Service was weird, too. When I walked in, nobody was behind the counter. A non-logoed, non uniformed, non-aproned woman said "...hi...," like she was sure I was either lost or trying to sell her something. She seemed almost disappointed to have to get up and walk behind the counter to actually sell a drink. To top off my bad experience, they only take credit cards for purchases of $5 or more. So 100% of their menu falls below their limit. Very customer friendly. It's a cute little place in a neat, old, repurposed building in a characterful downtown. But they don't understand coffee. This is a really cute coffee shop across the street from the Convention center. They have a fairly large space that looks like a living room with 2 sofa seats. They offer free WIFI as well. I love this place because they Roast their own coffee beans! They can customized your latte since they have a variety of flavors and powders. There's also several brewed coffee pots that you can sample as well. Their default milk is nonfat! They sell pastries too but not sure if they're homemade. My cranberry white chocolate biscotti was perfect with my extreme toffee latte. read more

Placed an online order for multiple pounds of coffee at the beginning of April and still haven't received it. Have been told on several occasions my order will be shipped the following day and have yet to see a package. Called today and asked for an update on the order, was informed that they didn't have the majority of my order in stock anymore and I would have to wait until the next shipment came in, again after being told it was being sent to me last week. I asked for a refund and was advised I had to go through the website and of course there is no refund option, only a contact tab to correspond via email. So I sent an email and now I guess I have to wait until whoever runs the website decides to read it...I pray it's not the same person in charge of online orders. It's a shame that after being a loyal customer for 20+ years I can't see myself ever wasting my time or money trying to get coffee from them again. A simple phone call or email from the company with updates regarding my order would have been appreciated and at least kept me informed. I've forgot my $95 order multiple time only to realize I was still waiting on it when I was at the grocery store buying coffee. Word to the wise avoid the website and set reminders if you do order. They sure do t go out of their way updating you. I'm going to give them a few days to respond to my email and if I don't hear back I guess I will have to take a trip and visit the store front and speak face to face with the owner/manager. read more

This place is wonderful! When I lived in the area I went to a coffee shop called Second Cup on a daily basis, and was heartbroken when it closed. But when I was in town recently and had some writing deadines to meet that only that good coffee shop vibe can aid, I found this place. As soon as you walk in, it smells like heaven - if your idea of heaven involves coffee aroma. There's a few small tables and a wall of product. The woman working was very sweet and made us tasty caffeinated beverages - and that's when I noticed there was a giant second room with comfy couches and armchairs with tables by the window for prime downtown Wheeling views. I will DEFINITELY be back next time I'm in town. read more

I stopped in here at 2:30pm today, 4/20/19, for some coffee to take on a walk at Heritage Port. My daughter picked up a pack of crackers and I ordered a small cappuccino. I asked if they took cards and the lady said "Yes but there's a $5 limit and you aren't there yet this is only $2.50." I said, "Ok, how about with the crackers?" She sighed and said "You still aren't near $5." I asked "Well can you give me a total so I have an idea of how much the difference is?" She sighed again, rolled her eyes, and said "You're at like 3.50." I looked around for a second trying to decide if I really wanted to get something to make up the difference but her attitude was a huge turn off, so I put the crackers back and told her nevermind. I don't like to leave bad reviews but she was RUDE. I've been coming to this place on and off for over 10 years when I'm in town and have never before had someone working here be this rude. Located just steps from the river across from the Wesbanco Arena, the street has plenty of parking spaces available to Wheeling Coffee & Spice patrons. The shop offers a second large sitting room and also tables in the main room for patrons who want to enjoy their drinks inside; but the river is always available for those who would rather enjoy their drinks outside. The staff is wonderful at Wheeling Coffee and Spice. They will tailor your drinks to fit your desires and also provide helpful information on options (in addition to small-talk). There are also regulars who you can count on for some quick conversation while waiting for your order. It is impossible to write enough compliments on this coffee shop. Nice enough staff. Perfectly terrible coffee. I was driving through on my way to Pittsburgh so I decided to stop here for a stretch and some caffeine. I ordered a latte with an extra shot. Even though there were "no public restrooms" I was permitted into the employee only area to use the facilities. They only have skim (?!) milk and it was heated to molten lava temps. I was barely able to hold it let alone drink it. Once it cooled down it was a watery scalded bitter beverage. Next time Starbucks it is. Which is too bad. Cute local shops are typically my favorite. read more
