Wow!! Where do I start?! I travel for food and right off the bat the entrance entices you. Red carpet right up to the front door. The front door is remarkable, absolutely stunning. And the wine room gives you many options to choose from. Both imported and local. As you walk farther into the house, you will walk into a cheese and meat room. Then further along you will have your dessert, pasta, and bread section. The cheese selection is impressive. It's truly not what you typically see everyday. Everything is imported. And they make their own pastries, bread pasta with imported flour. The staff is friendly and will give you great recommendations. The overall experience here was unmatched. In any event, we had our choice of six bespoke sandwiches, a quiche or soup de jour. Sandwiches served on fresh toothsome baguettes, with a side of olives and a mini biscotti cookie. Well 2 stars for having some good cheese selection and porchetta on the menu. I can honestly say I've never been treated so rudely as the woman working in the cafe. From the moment we walked in everything she said was rude. We were really hungry and traveling through so we didn't take the time to find other food. It's a tiny offering of ingredients on half a baguette for $12-$15 a sandwich. There was no condiments like olive oil to give the sandwich's depth and just a sprinkle of whatever was included on the sandwich. My feedback would be to actually put the ingredients you offer on the sandwich. The pastries were dry lacquered frozen items from their distributor. They don't offer a cheese or salumi plate despite having tons of cheese/salumi sitting there. I've eaten at a ton Of gourmet markets and especially Italian markets throughout the US and Europe. I agree with all the Yelpers that this is a local gem, seemingly out of place. I would more expect this in an upper middle class suburb...but Wheeling, WV? When I finally arrived in town, I headed straight to Good Mansion because I needed a sandwich for the following day. The gentleman behind the deli counter informed me they only make sandwiches during lunch, but suggested I pick a meat, cheese, and baguette to assemble myself. I put it together in my hotel room that night feeling like it was rather plain. When I finally had a bite the next day, I loved it's simplicity. As many chefs will tell you, the quality of the ingredients is key! I made an effort to peruse the wines before I checked out. I definitely wanted to try a local offering, of which they have a whole display for, although I was only in town for one night. The only thing I wish they could do legally would be to sell wines by the glass for consumption there on site but alas, they still provide a generous tasting of wines with the sandwiches we ordered and ate on premises. We picked the right day to go to Good Mansion Wines! Took a day trip to Wheeling just to check it out and stopped here for lunch. They had cooked this beautiful porketta and the sandwiches we absolutely delicious. The bread was freshly baked and really amazing, and the meat was simply amazing. The sandwiches was simple, but all the ingredients were such high quality. The guy behind the counter was very friendly, and they have done everything right with regards to covid19, a few very well-spaced places to eat inside, and also curbside pickup is offered.
