We got one lunch stew (kimchi ramen, rice, japchae) and one spicy pork combo (comes with veggie dumplings (6) and miso soup) We were in heaven eating this up and we grabbed mango soda, chrysanthemum tea, ramune, ginseng drink to wash it down. Beautiful stop in Oberlin, but employee changed the atmosphere negatively. He shook his head when asking for a dietary accommodation for me and another guest, and angrily informs you when you ask for something the kitchen doesn't have that day. Kim's usually has such a beautiful small shop feel. Hopeful they're able to find more comforting staff once the college students return to campus. Kim's is the ONLY legitimate Asian meal you can buy in the Oberlin area. Everything is perfectly seasoned...inexpensive for the student's budget...and the perfect portion for a filling meal without needing to waste or carry leftovers. My son survived a week-long workshop at Oberlin last summer by going to Kim's every other day. When we returned to visit the campus last weekend, my son and I both ran to Kim's at separate times just to recover from the other food options. There's a counter if you want to eat in the store, but things are packed well enough to bring home safely. My only complaint was that the chopsticks provided were of the poorest quality. They broke in half almost immediately after I took them out. (I'm Chinese -- don't worry - I know what I'm doing. Finally, no. This is not a place for ambiance. It's a grocery store run by an owner who also enjoys sharing her cooking. And I thank God for that. Both Kim, her equally talented son, and the small but diverse array of produce and inventory make Kim's a must-go for recuperation from the land of sandwiches and fries (albeit, Ohioans are great at those.) I'm a big fan of kimchi, particularly the Napa cabbage variety. Hadn't had any in years since we moved to the sticks. Somebody mentioned this place so I went there and bought some. Jiaozi and kimchi is a wicked good combo. read more

My go to order is spicy crispy chicken (its not spicy) and pork buns, 18 dollars so I can't go here too often but when I do good the food is quality extremly filling and delicious. Every time I've ordered something else its been delicious. Grocery prices are high but for what I need, Thai Sweet Chili sauce and the occasional meat it works fine. Small place but a lot of charm typical order takes about 10 mins to make. read more

I am leaving a bad review due to safety. I have a serious gluten allergy and was thrilled when they gave me a special gluten free menu. They had pork buns, dumplings, ramen and spicy rice cakes listed as gluten free. I was thrilled! I ordered dumplings, pork buns and the spicy rice cakes among other items. They also have a grocery store attached and I was a bit skeptical that these items were gluten free so I asked the cashier if he could show me the exact items that I had ordered. The cashier (who was super friendly and helpful) walked me to them. Both items had wheat as their FIRST ingredient! When I brought it to cashiers attention he was horrified and told the cook. The cook angrily said "if it has gluten then she shouldn't be buying it!"... ummm excuse me? It is on YOUR gluten free menu. I then went and checked the ingredients on the spicy rice cakes and wouldn't ya know...wheat. So essentially most of what I ordered off the gluten free menu was in fact full of wheat and the cook got mad at me for it. They also had ramen listed on the "gluten free" menu and I can just about promise you that it is not gluten free. I ended up not eating anything I ordered as I can't trust it. The grocery section was small but well stocked with lots of Korean snacks and ramen. You can buy most items that they cook in the grocery section if you like them or if you need to check labels like I did. If it wasn't for the danger of labeling food as gluten free incorrectly I would have given them a much better review. I am glad that I caught the mistake or I would have ended up VERY sick and in terrible pain for days. read more

While visiting my niece, I stopped by to see their offering. The place is divided into two - left side is grocery and right side is the restaurant. They have all the essential ingredients you'll need, but being the only Asian store in town, their prices are on the higher end. I didn't go to the restaurant side as they were busy. I was told by my niece that they are busy and popular because of their $5 bowl. Next time I'm in town and I have more time, I'll have to try their food and see how it is. Only draw back, you are welcomed by the smell from the kitchen and you leave smelling like Korean food. I can't rate based upon their food, just their grocery side. read more

Made a special trip from Elyria to Columbus to try this place. I don't mind the atmosphere, but the attitude and low quality food can go. The ramen may have well been a package off the shelf in the other room. The veggie ramen had only cabbage and carrots. They were so over cooked, they disappeared into the soup. One tiny sliver on tofu and a small scoop of rice were at least helpful to add some substance. The sweet potato noodles were tasty. I'm skeptical of the broth as well. Not sure it's actually vegetarian. The dolsat was heartier but did not make us jump for joy. The kimchi soup was very spicy. The person at the register was not helpful. They have a very strict $10 minimum rule, even if you add drinks after you've already paid $40. I would seriously consider buying you own items and making ramen at home. You'll leave full and not have to stop at Dave's atomic subs for fries on the way home. Would not recommend. read more

I visited Oberlin for a weekend. As a person who is VERY familiar with cuisines from all over the world I asked my cohorts about places in town that served Korean cuisine - low and behold they pointed this place out. I must say that the food was mediocre at best. The 'vegetarian' dumplings tasted previously frozen, the rice was not traditional Korean rice, and they have very few options for vegetarians like myself. read more

I found this place accidentally today. I was in town for work and was parked behind Kim's. the smell coming from the exhaust fan was amazing. One of he employees came out and I asked him what they were making and he told me they were a Korean place. I was stationed in Korea in '92 and haven't had real Korean food since so I figured I'd try it. It's small and cramped. It is also awesome. After I ordered my food I walked through the store. I found ramen that I used to buy in Korea. I found candy that I used to buy. The memories that this place brought back were awesome. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi and a side of Kimchi. The food came quick and was hot. I'm pretty sure this is a family run place and Louis was the guy that helped me. Good dude. He makes you feel welcome. I got home and I have to say, the tastes and smells took me back to the sidewalk shops in Waegwan. I've read the bad reviews here and I can only guess that it was an off day. My order came to less than $10 and was perfect for lunch. I'll be back for sure. I'll even go out of my way for this place. read more

This place is everything you would expect it to be! An adorable little Korean grocery that can crank out some tasty take-out. I always love any shop that specializes in regional products that you cannot find everywhere, and Kim's has a good variety and amount considering the size of the space. I had been looking for Korean chili flakes for sometime in order to make Kimchi and, sure enough, Kim's had a few different brands and sizes to choose from. I ordered Kimchi Dumplings as take-out as well, although I think they mixed it up with some other type of dumpling ... there was no spice to it at all! Either way, they were mighty tasty! I've been delighted to have this authentic family-run Korean restaurant in our town. I'm especially grateful for the fresh produce such as baby bok choy which isn't easy to find in regular groceries, and the lychee sherbet is also a special treat not easily found elsewhere. The amount of food available in such a small space is astounding. While the restaurant space is cramped, takeout is available. The best place in Oberlin for a quick and cheap meal. Their 5$ bowls are godsend, and their dinners are always delicious and filling. Very well priced. Because it is fast-casual, and there's little at the table service, the service is very quick. There's limited seating space, but if the weather permits there is a courtyard in front of it. My family and I ordered kimchi fried rice with chicken, the combination bulgolgi (beef), 5 dumplings, and seaweed soup as well as the combination chapchae (noodles) with 5 dumplings and miso soup. The kimchi fried rice was out of this world as well as the bibigo. The chapchae didn't have much flavor so we mixed it with the bulgolgi and it was wonderful. Seaweed soup was great, miso soup not so much. Definitely get the kimchi fried rice, it's amazing! Service was really great for Parent's Weekend on a Saturday night. People were very friendly as well and prices were very reasonable. I've grown up with amazing Korean food in LA, and Kim's is just as good. read more

Some of the grocery items were expired and some did not have expiration dates because they took out single packets from boxes and larger packs and selling individually. Only Asian grocery store in Lorain County. I am a fan of that. Despite that, selection is small because of the size of the store. The owner of the store does have another store in North Olmsted and if you ask her for stuff not in the store, she'll be more than happy to bring in those items if she has them in stock at her other store. read more

A little bit of everything in the market. The expansive for the size dine-in/to go menu features really delicious home style Korean food at excellent prices. What a wonderful recent addition to the Oberlin dining scene! The spicy pork bulgoki is to die for! I could just eat it all day. For 5 dollars, you can get a lunch special. Or if you want the works including a sample plate that includes an assortment of sides the price goes up to the 8-10 dollar category. Also included is a market with plenty of Ramen, Asian candies and delacacies. The place is extremely clean. The service is generally extremely friendly. Ms. Kim and her son are so wonderful! I love both the grocery and the restaurant. Some favorites include the Hot Pot, Kimchi Stew, Kimchi Chicken Salad, Bibimbap and the chap chae (sweet potato noodles). They also offer $5 rice bowls with your choice of topping. And I love being able to shop for nice produce, a wide variety of Asian sauces, seasonings and other products. Check out the frozen ramen noodles and the refrigerated udon noodles.
